Chapter 15 - Can Food Cure Everything? Lamb Buns
He Gu didn’t dare pay attention to the sounds behind him and rushed up to the third floor.
Until this moment, He Gu still felt his entire head was dizzy and muddled, as if he was hungover and extremely uncomfortable.
Returning to his dorm room, He Gu locked the door immediately after entering, then started panting heavily.
Xiao Ying was still in bed at this time, wrapped in a blanket while playing on her phone.
“What’s up with you?”
Xiao Ying curiously asked.
He Gu waved his hand: “Nothing, just a bit dizzy.”
After catching his breath for a few moments, He Gu added: “I bought the meat buns you wanted, do you…want to get dressed and eat something first?”
Realizing Xiao Ying was not dressed yet, He Gu awkwardly averted his gaze.
Xiao Ying smiled coquettishly: “I’m not afraid, why are you? Honestly…”
Although she said that, Xiao Ying didn’t continue to make things difficult for He Gu. She quickly put on the light purple nightgown she wore yesterday under the blanket, then emerged again.
He Gu handed Xiao Ying a small steamer bun and a large meat bun. Xiao Ying took them in her hands, smelled them, and exclaimed: “They smell pretty good!”
With that, Xiao Ying sat on the bed and started nibbling on the meat bun.
He Gu still felt dizzy and uncomfortable at this time. He had originally wanted to lie down for a while first.
However, seeing Xiao Ying eat with such relish, and feeling his own hungry stomach rumbling, He Gu endured the dizziness and started eating the steamer bun in his hand.
He didn’t know if it was because he was too hungry, but He Gu found the bun to be exceptionally delicious!
Especially when he took a bite and got to the meat filling inside, He Gu even felt a wave of comfort throughout his body.
Was this really a bun from the school cafeteria!?
Tasting the delicious flavors, He Gu immediately wolfed down the steamer bun in his hand, then finished the large meat bun in a few more bites.
He was moderately 70% full.
And at this moment, He Gu suddenly realized the dizzy and muddled feeling in his body had faded!
What was going on?
Could it be that he had felt unwell earlier because of low blood sugar from not eating?
But this recovery was too fast!
He Gu thought back in astonishment at the feeling from earlier. It really seemed that…the uncomfortable feeling had started to diminish as soon as he began eating the steamer bun…
It worked that quickly!?
At this moment, He Gu suddenly recalled the hidden message he saw in the cafeteria rules: At any time, food is a good thing, especially delicious food, it can cure everything.
…
Could it be that this hidden message…was purely literal!?
Delicious food has a healing effect on people!?
While He Gu was lost in thought, Xiao Ying had also quickly finished two large meat buns over on her side, and eaten several more steamer buns.
Xiao Ying then satisfiedly rubbed her belly: “I’m full, there are still a few steamer buns left, do you want them?”
He Gu pondered briefly, then nodded: “Give them to me.”
Taking the remaining steamer buns from Xiao Ying, He Gu got up and rummaged a pair of scissors left behind by some roommate out of the cabinet.
Then, He Gu took the scissors and gritted his teeth as he made a shallow small cut on his finger.
Seeing some blood oozing from the wound, He Gu quickly ate one of the steamer buns.
After eating it, He Gu immediately held up his wounded finger to observe it closely.
However, after a moment He Gu was disappointed.
Clearly, he had overthought it. Even in this strange world, food could not heal wounds.
Of course, using food to heal wounds did seem a bit far-fetched no matter how you looked at it.
He Gu shook his head with a self-deprecating laugh, standing in place and eating the remaining steamer buns.
At this time, the parrot hanging on the bed frame seemed to smell the aroma and suddenly fluttered over to He Gu, squawking: “Caw—Eat meat! Eat meat!”
“Caw—Eat meat! Eat meat!”
…
The parrot looked somewhat agitated, as if wanting to break out of its cage and fly out.
Seeing its restless state, He Gu tentatively held up the last remaining steamer bun: “You want to eat this?”
The parrot immediately quieted down, sticking its head out of the cage, as if trying to reach for the steamer bun in He Gu’s hand.
He Gu was shocked, this parrot actually did want to eat meat!
But…Rule 1 item 7: Please do not feed the parrot any food other than bird food.
He Gu hesitated briefly, then quickly abandoned the idea of feeding the steamer bun to the parrot.
When not completely certain, trying to violate the rules would be an extremely foolish thing.
Thinking this, He Gu stuffed the entire last steamer bun into his mouth in front of the parrot.
The light in the parrot’s eyes instantly dimmed, as if extremely aggrieved. It turned around with its back facing He Gu, seemingly reflecting on itself.
Seeing this, He Gu was nearly laughed. This parrot was becoming more and more anthropomorphic, it seemed.
While He Gu was teasing the parrot, Xiao Ying had grabbed a pile of toiletries and headed towards the bathroom again: “I’m going to take a shower.”
He Gu watched Xiao Ying’s retreating figure towards the bathroom, his eyes strange.
What was up with her, so obsessed with showering?
He Gu shook his head, not bothering with her further. At least she wasn’t violating any rules.
But just as Xiao Ying had walked into the bathroom, there was a knock on the dorm room door.
With so few people left in the entire school, who would still come knocking?
He Gu was suspicious in his heart, and also somewhat nervous.
After all, this was a strange world, all kinds of dangerous and bizarre things could happen.
But there was no peephole on the dorm room door, so He Gu had no way to check who was outside without opening it.
After brief hesitation, He Gu called out: “Who is it?”
The dorm supervisor grandpa’s voice immediately sounded from outside: “It’s me, the dorm manager.”
Hearing this, He Gu’s heart immediately tightened: “Grandpa, what’s the matter?”
The supervisor yelled: “You dropped something, I’m here to deliver it.”
Hearing this, He Gu grew even more nervous.
He was certain he hadn’t dropped anything.
But the dorm manager did have a master key, so even if He Gu didn’t open the door, he could come in himself.
And he said he was here to deliver something…could it be the rumored internship notice letter?
Thinking this, He Gu steeled himself and opened the door.
The supervisor smiled and stood at the door, wearing that rather dated-looking red vest.
Seeing this, He Gu relaxed a little: “Grandpa, what’s going on?”
The supervisor smiled and handed over a cafeteria oiled paper bag, inside was a large bun.
“Young man, you dropped this bun outside room 212 just now, right?”
He Gu shook his head: “This bun isn’t mine.”
But the supervisor stubbornly said: “I only saw you as the one who bought buns and came back this morning, if it isn’t yours then whose is it?”
“Young man, don’t waste food, this bun is in a bag and got dirty but still warm!”
He Gu insisted on shaking his head: “Grandpa, this really isn’t mine, I finished all the buns I bought, didn’t drop any outside.”
Even though the rules said an undressed dorm supervisor could be trusted, it wasn’t his stuff after all. He Gu naturally wouldn’t accept it, not knowing if it was a trap.
But the supervisor grew anxious: “What’s with you young man! This is all food!”
Just at this moment, the parrot in the dorm room suddenly fluttered and squawked again: “Caw—Eat meat! Eat meat!”
…
Seeing this, the supervisor glanced inside the room, his tone softening again: “If you don’t want to eat it yourself, at least take it back to feed the parrot, better than throwing it away!”
Hearing these words, He Gu immediately became wary.
Something was off, this dorm supervisor was suspicious!
After a little thought, He Gu conceded: “Alright Grandpa, please give me the bun.”
Only then did the supervisor nod satisfactorily and hand the bun to He Gu.
“Young people, every grain is hard-earned, don’t waste food!”
The supervisor exhorted once more before turning and leaving.
After the supervisor left, He Gu immediately closed the dorm room door, then carefully peeled open the still warm large bun in his hand.
The white dough peeled away to reveal the juicy meat filling inside.
At the same time, He Gu smelled the unique scent of lamb.
This was a lamb meat bun…
