Chapter 38: XXXVIII. Hate and Prejudice
A day had passed since Alexandra had spoken to Ssaull and Rophttys, and she was considering her choice. She had barely met other humans and in less than a day she now had to decide whether to stay or leave them, it was unfair to the human who only wanted to learn more about her race and herself, there was so much to know and learn and now she had to decide whether to drop everything. Marcus could not believe that Alexandra was thinking about that proposal, humans should always be united against all adversity, especially be united against dragons, those magical and scaly creatures were not friends at all and much less good mothers to the humans. When they returned to the center of the camp, the scientist along with some people began to talk with the girl to learn about everything that Alexandra could provide them, Dr. Russman was evaluating the health of the human and warned Alexandra that she was very lucky to be able to continue walking, but if she returned with the dragons she could die, that possibility did not seem to matter to her, and that possibility was no surprise to Alexandra even if her life with the dragons had been perfect, this possibility was already known in the life of a warrior.
Alexandra had become a topic of interest in the community, although there were already some who were aware of the existence of good-hearted dragons, unfortunately, those dragons were very rare and it would be a real madness to go to a place where you know that ninety-nine percent of them want to kill you, eat you or enslave you, but there was Alexandra, she was considering it despite her injuries and possible trauma. Would she be willing to go back to the dragons?
"Why does everyone treat me like she's a Krarglo?" Alexandra asked Marcus showing how much he was advancing with her English.
"Excellent, you learn fast Alexandra. In no time you will speak very good English" Marcus praised making her smile. However, Marcus didn't seem as cheerful as she and Alexandra could tell.
"Something is bothering you, it shows in your eyes" she looks better at her friend's face.
"No, nothing is bothering me" she replied keeping a neutral face, but it was useless, Alexandra already had experience in recognizing strange faces thanks to traitors or dragons who secretly hated her.
"Marcus, I have lived through quite crazy situations out there and I know when something bothers someone, whether it has a scale or not," she notices a fleeting expression of disgust upon hearing something about dragons and she realizes the possible problem. "Do you hate dragons?" she said pointing to the problem.
"How did you realize?"
"Your face gives away a lot about you that you don't know. And the truth is I don't blame you, dragons are usually a real kick in the back"
"It's a kick in the butt, it shows that you still need to master certain expressions" Alexandra is upset by her mistake.
"Anyway, I don't want to invade your space and you can refuse if you want, but I must know."
"What's wrong Alexandra?" he asks curiously.
"Why is everyone looking at me strangely?"
"Strange how?"
"You know, everyone when they see me acts differently, even you act the same as the rest since Ssaull and Rophttys told me about going with my mother to the outskirts of the realms." she looks at the boy concerned "Is everyone upset with me for considering the proposal?" Marcus seeing the look of his friend realizes that it would be useless to deny that.
The dragons took his mother from him, he and his father barely managed to survive before New Hope and the dragons never looked at humans as their equal, or at least he believed so, he did not understand the people who told those stories of good dragons And she did not understand much less why Alexandra is worried about whether to leave or stay, the answer was more than obvious, she should stay and forget the dragons.
"How can you think of going back to them?" he takes her hands worried "They're not even human and you're thinking of going back, that's crazy"
She looks doubtfully at the boy, Alexandra had not yet concluded, she was not a fool, she knew that at any moment the dragons could have an advantage and would kill her even with Magarai's protection, even so, a part of her wanted to return. with her mother, with her few friends, and her life as a warrior. Alexandra was not like the rest of the humans, she had the pride and fury of dragons instilled in her and for that girl to abandon her goals, dreams and desires were as heartbreaking or worse than feeling the edge of the sword on her meat. It was supposed that one moonlit night, Alexandra promised her mother that she would become the Greater Dragon of the oceanic and would be as strong and proud as her mother, the human could not bear it, inside she felt really bad hiding The fact that she did not leave before was because she was finally with others just like her and that made her very happy, as much as she had never experienced and because of that happiness it made it difficult for her to decide. It was not easy to decide between happiness and pride, she waited for a sign to decide the right path for her future.
"Alexandra only an insane or suicidal person would go back there looks at everything they did to you" he points out the wounds that he saw and the ones that she had told him about. "Please try to think things better and forget about it"
"I'm sorry, I know everyone would tell me the same as you, but this is something for me to decide"
"You will kill yourself!"
"Maybe, but I was raised and trained to be a strong dragon warrior like my mother. I refuse to let my years of sacrifices and efforts so easily, my pride denies me, and yet I also want to stay here and be with others equal to me "she said squeezing her right hand, Marcus notices the dilemma that the girl was going through in those moments.
"Pride !? Sacrifice !?" he looks puzzled at the girl "You are not a dragon! You have nothing to prove to them, you are a simple human girl," he said trying to reason with her, however, Alexandra did not want to accept it.
"This is not about them, but about me. Marcus this is the world I know, I was born in it and I cannot forget everything I knew and felt that simple. I want to die fighting for what I love" she stands up to walking, Marcus grabs her hand to stop her.
"It's fucking stupid and you know it"
"Could be, I know very well this could kill me." he doesn't let go. "You don't have to understand me if you don't want to, but I want to ask you as my first human friend to respect my choice whatever it is. I know Ssaull and my mother would if I decide to stay here."
The girl leaves her friend alone, she needed some time and space to think better about the proposal that the skeleton dragon had made her, she was not sure. Would it be nice for her to go back to the dragons? Even if her mother protected her from all the dangers and warriors that her head wanted, she was not sure she wanted a life where she was a drag on her mother, she wanted to aspire to more than that. She cursed her luck, if she was just a dragon or if she had lived all her life with a human group and family she would not be in these ridiculous life dilemmas, she only did what she thought she could do to seek some peace in her head.
-Hey Colaza, I don't know if the relics sleep or something like that, but I need maybe some dragon wisdom right now-
She closed her eyes hoping to receive any sign in her head as she always did the relic, she meditated, if it were up to her she might return to her mother, it was her family and the being that she loved and trusted the most, she remembered every moment she shared with The dragon, from her growth to her training, her mother always took care of her the best she could despite being different species, she remembered how Magarai healed every wound she could despite being as bad with medicine and healing as her, Alexandra He laughs when he sees that kinship he had with the oceanic dragon, the adventures they both had before Alexandra had to go to the warrior academy of Shairum, he remembered his best friend how she protected him from brawling dragons and he loved her unconditionally, Ssaull like this started as a headache and later became like another mentor to her, she learned things from dragons and humans alike and Rophttys who was an interesting companion she met. Despite all the bad things and the horrible betrayals that she lived with the dragons, Alexandra greatly valued her relationships with those dragons who have cared for and loved her in her life, it seemed to weigh more the good memories than the bad ones for her.
While the girl was meditating and recalling old happy moments some of the camp leaders were discussing the current situation, a dragon talking to one of their own so calmly as if they were friends was a very unpleasant thing for them, every human who had a feeling Positive towards the enemy was a matter of concern and it was always ordered to keep them under surveillance to avoid them being a threat to the community, many times they realized that most of the humans who appreciated dragons a little were aware that they were better off with other humans and did not show any worrisome signs, and they expected the girl in the dragon-like armor to be like the rest. When the name of Ssaull and that it was a blue dragon with protruding bones in its face, some of those present recognized that dragon as a member of the Greater Dragons, the name that the oldest people in the camp knew and hated, was the name of the group that led the most brutal and bloodthirsty execution of their former home as they searched for a way to return to their world. They knew that a Greater Dragon indicated trouble for human survival as they looked for ways to return home to their families away from the dragon nightmare, then. Why didn't the dragon do anything? Did he plan to see how many there were before starting another attack? They had a big problem at hand, but Dr. Russman thought they were having the wrong idea, if that dragon had wanted to attack he would have done it without having to kindly ask for an audience with Alexandra, they clarified to the doctor who did not know how terrible and lethal that they could be the Greater Dragons, luckily for them there seemed to be no signs of Magarai's presence as she could cause a real tragedy for them.
"We could use Alexandra as bait and catch the two dragons and see that they plan their species against us," said one of the soldiers who were present
That idea was not all bad, if they caught Ssaull and tortured him enough they could get juicy information from the dragons and maybe a possible weakness, they could not always depend on the lethal sound to defend themselves, if the dragons threw fireballs, lightning among other things, they would die too easily or destroy their devices that released the sound that only dragons heard.
"But will Alexandra agree?" a person asked worried that the girl would cause a problem.
"Just in case we won't tell her anything, we also have to make sure that she doesn't have weapons available, that sword and crossbow could be problematic"
So the group of people began to plan how to receive the blue dragon to make sure that it notified other Greater Dragon about its refuge, this had to be done well because it would be important to prevent the dragon from escaping and bringing more of its own. In Ssaull's rolling store he seemed to have a bad feeling about his scales, he did not know if it was related to Magarai, with Alexandra or his sister and him, he could only know that it was not a good sign to feel that way so late and for no apparent reason.
