Chapter 27: Fortress City Trent
*Trent POV*
General Ryan set out with his forces a week ago, 100,000 of the cities soldiers at his back, however only 3 days later less than 30,000 returned with the general and almost every one of them was injured in some way, the General was even missing an arm himself.
When the news of the armies defeat spread the city was thrust into a state of panic.
Rumors of a massive beast wave heading to destroy the city circulated, which intensified their fear.
Some even started packing their things planning to flee inland until they came across another of Humanities Fortress Cities.
Meanwhile at Central the Family elders had all been summoned to discuss recent events.
"It's been confirmed, the army General Ryan failed to suppress is coming this way, we cant say their exact numbers but judging from our scans they've grown in number probably reinforcing themselves with the other mutants beasts lurking within our territory."
"So it comes to this, a stampede when we're at the weakest we've been in decades."
"It might be over for this city."
"No! We cannot let Trent fall. We should send our the S1 Emergency alert summoning the Elites from the nearby cities to come to our aid!"
"If we do that the city will still be lost, we might repel the beasts sure, but those elites will know of our weakness and settle down taking control away from us."
"Better to have a chance of position than no position at all!"
"Bastard, perhaps you should go and offer up your rear to the beast, I'm sure they'll give you position!"
The meeting decended into anarchy with insults being slung left and right.
That is until there was a single solitary clack, as a cane made contact to the ground just once.
Shattering the floor beneath it like a mini crater from the impact.
At this the entire room returned to silence.
The reason for this was the weilder of the cane, James the King of this particular city, he was a 40yo who'd reached the heights few from humanity had managed, he was a mid-rank 7th tier awakened, his position was absolute and with it his word literally was law.
"I declare a state of emergency, all 3rd tier and above awakened are to be conscripted into the defense force and will man the walls against the oncoming horde."
""… … …""
"All of them sir?"
"Yes, is there a problem?"
Turning his head slightly to glare at the man who dared question his order, the man in turn flinched before staring at his feet in submission.
Trent wasn't a small city, it had a population of close to 10 million and due to the strict rules almost everyone housed witin was an awakened, with more than half being of the 3rd rank or above.
The King had just mobilized 5 million humans to stand against the 1 million beasts.
This was the truth behind how dangerous this beast force was in the Kings eyes.
Even outnumbering the beasts the pressure felt in the distance informed the king that the beasts had a greater number of higher ranks which would even the odds even when outnumbered.
The beasts in almost all cases always had the superiority in their number of forces, but this was going to be a desperate defense, if the beasts are able to breech the walls Trent is over.
The high ranks will be forced to flee and millions will be lost becoming fodder for the beast army which will have gained freedom from humanity in these lands to grow into even larger numbers.
However one thing brought a small smile to the Kings lips.
As mighty as this pressure was there was not a corresponding Lord, or King present in this army which meant the white-peace was still in place but also meant that the King himself could not act unless his own life came to harm.
If he wanted to he could wipe out this beast army with a wave of his hands, but in doing so the beats would send out a Lord, King, or even Emperor to deal with him, let that situation escalate and the peace would be broken and the 3rd world war would begin and there was a good chance that this one would be the war to extinguish humanities flame from this world.
For now all he can do is ensure that Trent can withstand the beast assault until the neighboring cities could send their 6th and 7th ranks in accordance with the articles of allegiance.
They would be bound to come to Trent's aid, the loss of even a single Fortress city would be took big a blow for humanity to withstand.
Having given his orders, the King set off for his private room, where he accessed the only means of inter city communication broadcasting a S1 Security alert, which would be received by all four nearby cities, and after passing the message along to inform the rest of humanity to Trent's plight those cities high ranks would be required to come to the cities aid, except in the case where their own city was already under threat.
Calling for help was shameful and admitting you were weak, but in times of emergency it was the only move you could make.
After so many years of fighting to get to his position and rank the King was not willing to throw it all away on something stupid like pride, if it meant his life would be saved he'd go so far as to bow to or kiss anothers feet if it meant he could keep on living and growing till he got to the peak, until he was the strongest where he could then turn around and watch as everyone else had to bow down to him as the supreme human, a living god walking among them.

In the city the panic began to get worse at the Kings declaration, all 3rd ranks and higher were subjected to the draft, in most cases this included the entire family of the ruling class, their greed for power and control was now backfiring causing almost all of them to need to defend the wall and serve on the front lines.
Some attempted to supersede the Kings orders onto to be killed on the spot, if not by the king, by his royal guards.
A squadron of 6th ranks he'd personally aided in cultivating.
The humans forced into this fight scurried about bring all manner of arms to bear onto the walls, while others quickly ferried all munitions that they could to the city defense canons.
Even the wounded were wheeled out from their recovery rooms to man the walls ever gun was needed for this fight.
The assembled beast horde didn't linger, they were not far behind the human expeditionary forces, and after spending the last few days resting and recovering while also harassing the humans attempting to retreat they finally were ready to attack the city.
Their goal in this fight was not simply to attack the city but to draw the focus of the human elites in the area to this city, allowing other beast armies to lead their own assaults against the other humans once their elites had left to help defend the at risk Trent.
Throughout the long peace, the beasts had never stopped attacking humanity however the ways they went about it kept on evolving starting from just standard wave tactics of trying to wear them down, to precision strikes, and now getting into diversionary tactics will to sacrifice the few for the success of the many.
Unknown to humanity even with their own ability to scout nearby their cities using similar technology to Jake's radar they had failed to notice the growing numbers of beasts on their borders.
And so when the S1 Security alert came in, the Elites did not hesitate and using the ascendance to fly they set off towards the city under siege to support and drive off the beasts, never realizing that in doing so they had just removed the teeth from their own defensive trap, without these elites their own cities were now leaderless, with a broken chain of command.
If an attack came to them, the defenders would descend into chaos hastening their own defeat and with it the fall of their city to become the prey for the invading beast army's.
With the arrival of the Irish beast horde, the inhabitants of Trent all headed for the bunker, while other braver souls went to the high places to get a vantage point of the battlefield.
But upon seeing all that had been wrought against them these citizen who were not powerful enough to be called into the conscription could only shudder in terror.
The defenses of the city shook the very buildings they were standing on as the concussive booms sounded off in succession.
Hundreds of defensive cannons fired, only to reload and fire again, the firing crews desperately moving faster and faster almost recklessly.
Each of these shells launched landed into the swarming beast line and with each shell landing, dozens of beasts were wrent limb from limb.
Meanwhile the millions of men filling up the walls cheered seeing hundreds of beasts going to their deaths, however even among all these explosions the beasts kept coming closer, and closer the cheers died down and murmurs began to spread as the men and women conscripted to defend the city questioned if victory was even possible.
As the million strong beast army got closer the watch commanders in charge of the wall defenses sent out a command for all forces to take aim and fire at will.
The entirety of the wall began to set of flashes of light as hundreds of thousands of all different types of guns fired off, the various bullets travelling beyond the speed of sound towards to oncoming flood of beasts.
Their morale soaring once more hearing the sounds of all the gunfire caused the fire in their hearts to light up once more, however unfortunately for the humans their weapons save for the city cannons were incapable of dealing a lethal blow to this level of beasts.
Anytime someone ran out of ammunition they'd draw their blade before jumping over the wall and charging into the beast lines knowing they had their comrades behind them who would be joining shortly.
Some tried to flee in terror only to get dragged over the wall all the same.
From within the city out of the gates came hundreds of tanks that fired as fast as they could at the incoming army as well, likewise planes and helicopters took off using every weapon at their disposal to assault the invading force.

**Beast POV**
"Hmmm… it's just as we were told these humans are going all out on their defense, but how sad it will be for them when they realize they've been betrayed by one of their own?"
"Ha haha, you've got that right brother, Trent will fall on this day, and with it's fall we can rise ever higher."
"No Trent is unlikely to fall today, the elites of humanity will be joining the battlefield soon and that will be when we must retreat, but until then we can bloody their nose enough that it won't take much more after this battle to cause the cities destruction."
"You know the plan, so send word to the commnaders and get the beasts to take down that wall."
"You got it, thanks to the beast slave human, we know the weakness behind their walls, take those away from them and the humans will be finished."
"Gahaha we'll eat good tonight brother!"
In the last hundred years traitors to humanity were not uncommon, there were many who believed that humanity had lost the right to be the masters of the Earth, and instead believed it was the mutant beasts who had that right, lowering themselves to the point of becoming slaves to their Beast masters.
These slaves would reside in human outposts, and cities sending back word on troop movements, new technologies, weaknesses that were found in the human defenses, basically whatever hastened humanities fall at the hands of the beasts.
Of course the mutant beasts only merely tolerated these human traitors if their dream of wiping humans off the map came, these slaves would not be spared, humans as a whole were seen to be a blight on the earth, so even if the blight was dealt with the infection could never be called cured if you let some of the virus remain within the host's body.
Those who charged into the beast lines with melee weapons fought like wild animals but against something that didn't have to just pretend to be a wild animal but already was one the humans strength meant little.
They managed to kill a few but even outnumbering the beasts the individual strength of the beasts was still forcing the humans back.
The tanks had caused the beasts to fall back a little but only enough for the bears to charge the tank lines with they massive lumbering bodies crashing into the mechanical machines tearing through their armor with claws like steel, without their tanks the human infantry started falling faster and faster.
While the beasts had managed to reach the very walls of the city itself in places.
But rather than climbing up the walls they began to run along it.
The humans ontop looking down just chuckled at the beasts stupidity of not knowing how to climb a wall.
But these beasts were far from stupid they were instead searching the wall for the weakpoints that had been revealed to them by the spies.
When found they began attacking these points but the humans had already disregarded their actions and focused instead on the still surging beast forces in the field.
This was a cataclysmic mistake.
For these beasts had targeted a fatal flaw in the walls foundation, and after only a few minutes of their attacks the walls in several places collapsed taking down thousands of humans still fighting from on top of the walls.
The beast army let loose a series of howls and cries as the beasts celebrated their success at securing multiple gateways into the Human city.
Seeing this the morale of the defenders dropped to rock bottom.
The humans fighting in the field were killed while they gaped at the sight of the walls being breeched while those ontop of the walls began to scurry trying to get away, get to their families.
The true invasion had just begun.
The city had just become a warzone.
The beasts concentrated their assault at the city openings, which allowed the humans to send in reinforcements from other sections of the wall to try and stem the flood into the city.
Long Horned bulls crashed themselves into building pillars like they were battering rams, causing structures throughout the city to fall over collapsing and causing a domino effect as they demolished parts of the city in their invasion.
However their successes were coming to a head.
Various bird forces had been flying back and forther from the front and rear lines.
Having received news, the Beast lords issued commands for the army to fall back.
Their scouts had seen the arrival of the human reinforcements, elites from 4 neighboring cities.
If it was just a reinforcing human army the beasts could fight on, however the arrival of the human elites within the 5th, 6th, and 7th tier would spell disaster for the beasts.
Their job was now over, they only had to keep pressure on the city to force these elites to remain here, while the other mutant beast armies completed their own attacks of the four cities that these elites had abandoned all to save this one city.
Even the human king of Trent had begun to move, hundreds of beasts were slain with a wave of his hands.
Adding in the arrival of the human elites, the beast army could only fallback.
Some fell to their bloodlust and refused to retreat only to meet their end at the hands of the arriving elites.
But by the days end the beasts job was complete, the city of Trent had managed to pull through but only barely, while the human defenders were still recovering news of the tragedy arrived upon hearing this the elites who were hailed as heros in trent could only pale and weep tears of blood to hear that while they were off saving the city of trent, their own cities had come under attack by the beasts and, due to their core strength missing, all four had fallen to the beast lords leading their own armies.
The beasts didn't outright destroy the cities, choosing to humiliate the humans by keeping a portion of the city alive like livestock, and taking up residence within their once hallowed halls.
Going so far as to also send out a comminique announcing the fall of each city to all others within reach to receive the news.
Within the human elites they began to wonder if the long peace was over, however when the Kings and Emperors reached out to the Mutant beasts of the same rank, all they received was replies that the peace still stands since the terms were adhered to, the beast armies only included Lords who were responsible for their own territories while the Beast Kings, and Emperors had not involved themselves in these battles.
Retaliation was allowed by humanity to retake these cities but only if they also followed the rules and only sent up to rank 6th humans against the now defending beasts.
However humans did not have the numbers required to pull off such an attack.
So the elites within Trent could only clench their fists till blood came out, hearing the Human declaration that these cities were written off.
Within Axiom, Jake had watched the war, and noticed something was off, the beasts had the ability to take the city, sure at great expense but why pull back the minute human reinforcements arrived?
Hours later he received new from his spy team who informed him that across Europe four human cities had fallen to the beasts and how the beasts plans led to this downfall.
"Clever little beasts, to bad they've lost their own homeland as well."
As he watched the war unfold, his own forces had made landfall in Ireland, founding his 3rd RA base, dubbing the new Base to be called Praxis, this base, marked the first expansion by the Scarlet dominion since it's founding the previous year.
The base was situated on the north side of Ireland acting as both a naval port, and launching point for land forces, as it was with Britain, Jake had his troops scour the land, making peace with the amiable races, while nearly causing the extinction of others who refused causing their races to fall into slavery to Jake and his Dominion.
The Mutant beasts in England were completely unaware that aside from those within the army all others of their race had either betrayed them or already fallen under the dominion of a human.
The nation of Ireland was no longer an island just like Britain, but that did not mean Jake could neglect coastal defenses.
With the building of his newest port, Sentry guns, Turrets and pillboxes were setup covering the port, while a new city wall was established creating a dual layer foundation, the inner portion being for his own buildings and forces, while the outer ring would be for the construction of dwellings and shops for colonists, or farms wherein to rear the captive mutants beasts those that could serve a purpose that is.
