Chapter 12: Expanded Operations
The number of human groups coming to investigate our base seemed to keep coming without end over the last few days.
But thanks to the efforts of the soldiers, coupled with guard and attack dogs, not one of those nosy sods managed to escape our clutches.
The ore mine was now operating at peak efficiency with slave shifts running 24 hours alongside some RA soldier units who continued to mine despite this unexpected Labor force.
Luckily the captured humans were a mixture of men and women, and well even though they were a mix of normal and awakened they could do nothing against the overall might of the commander aka Me.
While their loyalty is far from secured at this point by merely being war captives and slaves if my plans develop the way i'd like these are actually going to be the first of my future cities citizens.
First up however is to expand our operations further.
Through interrogation it was found that the scouts had come from numerous Outposts, and they all assumed it was a mission issued by their own outpost until they learned from one another that they all had the exact same mission which meant Trent was the true source of this mission.
That being said, how did a fortress city already come to know of us...
Well it's not like we could honestly remain hidden forever, but perhaps if the local power have found us it'd be better if we simply packed up and left in search of another suitable base location, the cost of doing so would hurt considering that the recycling fee of the buildings and structures I created would only result in a portion of the credits used to create them being returned to me, but in a pinch this would be for the best.
And I could even go so far as to create fakes of the construction yard, war factory, and radar dome so that while the people would disappear from the base but not the entire base which could be more suspicious as they'd likely assumed we just moved on after having claimed anything of value from this location.
It's only been over a month and already the Credits I'm earning from the mine is decreasing as we're processing more stone per day than actual ore, and while that still gets me credits just like If we were to harvest lumber the efficiency compared to metal ores, or even gemstones was basically 1:1000 since it seems the system would allow for renewable resources to in theory create an infinite number of credits but at a much slower pace as least till we can acquire a sizeable territory and grow up some crops or a tree farm.
With our subjugation of the surrounding Mutant beasts one could state we had already staked claim to the lands themselves but without regular patrols or demarcation points this would be meaningless as the humans are holed up in their fortress's, and outposts only wandering out to collect supplies or hunt, if our territory is not clearly marked they would tresspass and that would result in possible conflict that plus showing our ability to police an entire area would make us a juicy target for all the surrounding Fortress cities who probably would want to bring us under their sway and receive either our tech, weapons, or even resources in tribute for their High-tier managers and soldiers not wiping our base off the face of the earth.
We might be able to resist if I could advance my commander level enough to unlock super weapons like nukes or the weather control device or even the super weapons from the 3rd installment as well but as it stands now I'm limited to the first games buildings and units and while the soviets should have access to missle silo's and nuclear missiles launched from them, I'm pretty sure that wont be happening for a while now since I've yet to even unlock the war factory and begin production of mobile units such as vehicles and tanks.
A conflict might be forth coming but unless they opposing side is seriously greedy enough we should be able to resist their initial attempts at assaulting the base and if they come back with stronger forces that we stand no chance against we'll just depart as far from here as we can.
For now the plan will continue to be to harvest as many credits as we can since the system seems to have no limitation on the number of credits I can have at once unlike in the game where you'd need to build silos to increase your limit.
Not that we didn't produce a few silo's since they were designed for storage and well after a simple modification they worked perfectly as a method of storing goods though each silo could only store a single type of good but a massive quantity of it.
As it stood now we had one for preserved meats, one for lumber, and another with some Iron that we did not sent to the refinery to become credits since the engineers wanted to try their hand at creating and using a forge to craft additional goods and components unable to be acquired through the system.
Our hunting operations were able to increase some as the newly arrived scouts had brought more vehicles with them and while it only increased our own petrol and deseil reserves slightly thanks to the fuel in their tanks and a couple of jerry cans as reserves while it would help speed up the hunt for now that now was simply at most a few days before we'd once more be back to having to go about it on foot.
Due to the excess of credits i'd started to upgrade more of my forces to enter the peak of the 3rd tier as well alongside Alpha while I couldn't make the entirety of my army the third tier having a pair per hunting team was certainly enough along with a few squads of complete 3rd tier for base defense, our scout forces were a few packs of 3rd tier attack dogs while the guard dog packs took up patrols around the base itself to capture more scouts who'd come to check us out.
With our enhanced power we'd started to venture out into the area's stated to be the home of 3rd and 4th tier mutant beasts on Kyree's map.
It was during one of these excursions that the message i'd been waiting for sounded off in my head.
[Commander, the number of Advanced Low Tier's slain has reached the required amount, Commander Level has increased to 3, congratulations Commander]
