Chapter 29: PURPLE
On an icy expanse, Kurtz walked on having successfully extricated himself from the group.
"What is this?" he muttered with scrunched brows as the strange feeling of being watched by someone stuck to his senses. No matter how he tried to look however, he could not see anyone around, even his nose was not catching any scent, without doubt, whoever was watching him was also distorting his senses.
[Will of Stone activated]
After activating the skill, Kurtz face slowly looked to a side and there, he could eventually see it. A purple haired with calm gaze looking straight back at him.
"Who are you and why are you hiding and tailing behind me like a rat." Kurtz asked turning fully to face the person.
"Rat." The man repeated with raised brows, this was the Magician King and he had finally found the one he was looking for. "That is the last thing I expected to be compared with, tell me bone demon, are you tired of living." He asked slowly walking towards Kurtz.
Kurtz looked on at him for a moment before shaking his head, "if you can't even tell me who you are, then you are not worthy of my time. As for being tired of living, I am indeed tired of living but there is a reason I keep on living anyway, until that is achieved, dying is not allowed." He said before walking on.
"Well, you might have just found yourself a reason to die. After all you took something that belongs to me. Or rather, you found two, since you also messed with the wrong Witch." The purple haired man said before swiftly moving off the place and Kurtz paused looking at the departing man for a moment before his eyes widened.
"Wait, purple hair, and he feels so powerful. Is that a Magician king?" He muttered in realization. Only the Magician royals were known to have purple hair, and now he understood what exactly he had took from the Magician King.
"Well, you should be happy I didn't take the other." He muttered continuing his journey.
...
"Something feels wrong, there is no way the Boss shouldn't have been aware of my presence by now." Kurtz muttered sitting in his room as he stared into the distance with a frown on his face.
"System, give a call to the boss." He said after sometimes and soon, a screen lit up in front of him.
On face appeared on the screen and Kurtz froze, now he was absolutely sure that something was wrong. After all, a face was not supposed to appear on the screen and even if it did, it was supposed to be covered in a mask.
The face on the screen was however not foreign to him, it was the face of a young man whom the Boss had once referred to as Greg, Ryan's brother.
"Now, now, the genius mercenary is surprised to see my face right." Greg spoke with a wide smile on his face.
"What are you doing there?" Kurtz asked with a frown. In fact, he was not only surprised, he was also worried.
"Well, I became the Boss, your Boss, what do you think?" Greg replied spinning round on the chair and his back was facing the screen.
"What have you done, where is the Boss, how dare you sit on that chair!" Kurtz shouted standing from his chair as Greg's laugh resounded in his ears.
"Why don't you pay the base a visit, we should smoothen things out." Greg spoke and Kurtz looked on for a moment before nodding.
"Very well, I hope to see you soon." he stated.
Minutes later...
Kurtz felt his heart pounding rapidly inside of him as his car sped on what had been a sandy plain.
The boss was more than just a figure in his life, he was the one who had accepted Kurtz when every other person were afraid and the Boss was the one who had gifted him the System that made him a normal creature again. Kurtz could not believe such a figure could be killed.
Several depressions could be seen on the burnt ground while ashes were being blown around in the wind, it was like an aftermath of an explosive war and Kurtz soon stopped in car.
On the ground, a large hole could be seen. It was at this spot that incoming cars would have been brought into the underground garage but the hole seems to have been brutally uprooted by some terrifying earthquake.
Kurtz immediately jumped through the hole, landing inside the wide garage and all around him, the scenes of destruction persisted. Several cars were overturned with ashes spread around the place and some flames still burned on the ground.
"It was an attack." Kurtz thought wondering if Greg had somehow betrayed the group. But even so, he could not conceive the scale of an attack that would reduce the base to such extent, after all they Seer Mercenary were not known as the best mercenary just by mouth, they possessed the best equipment out there, some which were even censored by the government.
"Wait, the government." Kurtz muttered with wide eyed, what if the government were the one behind this, only then could all this make sense but again, what would the government stand to gain from destroying the Seer Mercenary?
Soon, Kurtz was walking down a stair and he could see a door already wide unlocked into which he entered.
In front of him, Greg could be seen sitting with a large smile on his face.
"You are quite fast Kurtz." Greg said with raised brows.
Kurtz was quite taken aback at Greg's boldness, after all he could cover the distance between them in an instant and kill the young man. However, he needed to know what exactly transpired before making any decision.
"What happened here" Kurtz asked, his eyes constricted.
"Well, many things happened" Greg begun swirling to and fro on the chair, "just a few days ago, some strange people had appeared and attacked the base out of nowhere. You wouldn't believe your eyes if you saw the things I saw, those guys literally spitted flames from their mouth and send boulder flying around just at the snap of their fingers. One even took control of your biggest fan, Bryan and had him shooting at me, I killed that bastard." Greg said chuckling for a moment before his gaze turned cold, "they were actually going to destroy everyone but my luck has always been quite good, I noticed there were searching for something and offered to help them in exchange for my life, guess what, they agreed." Greg stated laughing again.
