SYSTEM OF THE BONE DEMON

Chapter 2: Don't

“Right we should get to business.” the Boss replied and a screen lit up in front of him.

On the screen, the image of a person with obscured features could be seen. The person had a hooded sweatshirt on her body. The hood completely covered her head and on the hood, she had also wore a bucket hat which shadowed her eyes, on her legs were large cargo pants and finally a pair of boots. Oddly, even single piece of clothing on her body was black.

“Now that looks like someone who mean business, is she some runaway government agent or a notorious criminal?” Kurtz asked studying the figure. No matter how the person had tried to conceal her features, her chest gave away the fact that she was female.

“Neither of the case, actually.” the Boss spoke, before another image popped up and this was of a cute looking young girl with two grey eyes and long silver hair which were braided into two.

“This person seems to be a quite brilliant hacker. Her information had been wiped off from every single source and this picture was only gotten after I managed to get past her own wall. She detected the next instant so we could only get a picture but it is enough, with it, we constructed what she might look like right now and here is what we got.” The man, said as the image of the girl morphed quickly and soon, Kurtz could see what might have looked like a young adult version of the small girl.

“How old is that supposed to be?” Kurtz asked looking at the image with an amused face.

“Well, she is twenty years now and according to what we managed to gather, she was born…” the Boss was however, interrupted by Kurtz who spoke.

“You know I don’t need stories boss, just tell me what needs to be done and her location, all will be taken care of.” Kurtz said.

“Well, she is to be abducted and delivered to the government but hey, she isn’t just any other target. The government have tried their best to get her but only took damages without result, which is why they had to seek us, the Seer Mercenaries out. Our mercenary has maintain quite a perfect record for years now so it made sense that even the government would trust us but I was quite skeptical. Still, I took the mission seriously from the start and sent the top five after her. I was however shocked to learn that Ryan had been killed by the target while the rest barely escaped with various degrees of injuries and then, I understood why the government were so bent on getting her, she is probably a breaker.” the man stated grimly.

While the Boss was still speaking, a screen had appeared in front of Kurtz.

~A Quest has been detected~

[The Last Mercenary: You have charged by your Boss to abduct a powerful Target, Abduct the target successfully.]

[The Breaker’s Mission: Breakers are supernatural creatures that have escape the supernatural world, find the Breaker’s mission in the human world.]

Kurtz however, closed the system’s screen as she looked at the Boss with raised brow, “breaker”, he muttered and a smile gradually emerged on his face. “Finally something exciting.” he said, walking on.

“You should check on the rest before leaving.” the man suddenly said, and Kurtz paused in place before nodding with a sigh, “I should.” He eventually said in agreement and then moved towards another room.

Soon, he was in a room where a group of four laying on their beds, while being attended to by a young woman in nurse uniform.

They chatted between each other laughing heartily as well, but there was one more person, a young man who Kurtz did not quite recognize and he was sitting to the side with dark expression.

“I see you guys are recovering nicely.” Kurtz spoke and everyone turned to look at him with startled expressions.

“Oh, it is you punk, now I can be rest assured that that disastrous creature will get her payback.” a man said, grinning as he slapped towards Kurtz who caught his arm in a firm grip.

“She really did a number on you.” He observed looking at the man’s other hand which was strapped to a machine by the side.

“Well, they all got one or two scratches.” The Nurse said and Kurtz looked at before chuckling. “You are right Linda, It is really just scratches. These resilient bastards will get up kicking in few days.” He said looking the group all round, they had varying degree of injury but his gaze could not help pause at a particular woman.

“What the hell happened to you, Sara.” he asked with wide eyes, looking at the woman, whose head had been placed in some transparent helmet. In response to him, the woman simply raised a hand to signify no problem.

“Sara got a shot that damage her skull quite a bit, it would be good if she doesn’t speak for now.” the young nurse, Linda said and Kurtz nodded in understanding.

“Okay, I wish you all quick recovery, the target is already on move.” Kurtz said tapping his ear and the rest nodded in understanding.

“Good luck.” The young Nurse shouted as Kurtz exited the place.

“I actually doubt he would need it actually, that guys is a monster.” another spoke.

“Quit already Bryan, I know Kurtz has a flawless record and all but you always make it seems like he is some divine being or something. He can still make mistake, everyone can.” another man commented.

“Well who makes the rule?” Bryan replied with a chuckle.

“You know, I would actually like to know what the deal about that guy is, he saw me sitting here and couldn’t even say hi, I guess he is some genius or something but there are many geniuses in the world, that’s just so rude.” The young man who had been sitting away from the group eventually spoke up.

The four lying on their bed stared at each other for a moment before Bryan looked back at the young man, “I understand what you are doing kid but don’t, don’t try to prove anything against that guy, it won’t end well.” He advised before closing his eyes.

“Prove something, I have never tried to prove anything to anyone. It is always them trying to prove to me that they aren’t lowlifes.” the young man declared, before standing and walking towards the door from which Kurtz had exited. “Uh, where is he?” He muttered looking down a long flight of stairs but Kurtz was nowhere to be found.

“Did he use the elevator?” He thought but even the elevator didn’t seems to be in any use. “There is probably a shortcut I don’t know about here, there is no way someone could

have moved so quickly, right?”
