chapter 6
6 – Knight’s Training Camp
I had another dream. I seem to be dreaming often these days. In my previous life, I rarely dreamed, but I often had useless dreams because I was relaxed in my peaceful daily life.
My body felt heavy, probably because I hadn’t moved around in a while. I woke up walking on the soft blanket covering my body. I left the dorm with the sword I had left next to the bed. The musty smell of the camp tickled my nose. I smelled the familiar smell and prepared to move to the classroom.
Even if it’s not a big deal, once the perception that it’s scary is stuck, most people get scared and lower their tails. There were people who often gave me disrespectful glances, but after yesterday’s Dalian, I couldn’t even make eye contact with them. As soon as I sat in the quiet classroom, the instructor came in.
The instructor was a person who served as a staff member on the battlefield for more than 30 years and was so famous that even I knew his name. Standing in front of the lecture hall, he said.
“Let’s start class.”
The trainees took out their notebooks, and I looked out the window with my chin on my chin because I knew everything.
“If there are 10 times more troops than the enemy, surround them and annihilate them with overwhelming firepower. If 5 times more troops, attack with knights at the fore, if 2 times more troops, separate them into cavalry units and destroy them one by one. If the troops are equal, follow the manual. Fight, and avoid the odds.”
“There are few exceptions to this rule among us knights, wizards, and humans, but there are elementalists.”
“Even if there is a difference of more than 10 times the number of troops with the opponent, if there are many knights and wizards, you can surround and annihilate 10 times as many enemies. And that gap exists between us and the kingdoms.”
“It’s similar when dealing with orcs, but there is a clear priority. It is to block their charge. If our knights fail to block the one-point charge led by the best warriors, the wizards and priests will be swept away behind them. However, they will block their first charge. And if you catch only the best warriors, you can win.”
The instructor wiped the entire classroom. Then he said, stroking the wound that ran across his left eye to his chin.
“That’s why our empire should be wary of demons, not other kingdoms or orcs.”
Hearing his words reminded me of the story I had with the owner of the mage tower in my previous life.
Around the time Irelle died trying to return to Earth in her last life, the Pandemonium began to invade Middle-earth in earnest. Fighting in the army, when my unit was destroyed and my family was destroyed, I hid in an area relatively free from war.
Because I had a lot of wealth and the skills to take care of my body, I loved and lived a good life. When I had no place to hide anymore, I was conscripted into the army of the 7 princes, called the hope of the empire. He lived for quite a long time under the 7 princes who were victorious even in impossible circumstances, but the situation was not good. Empires and kingdoms perished. The world tree was set on fire to let the orcs’ shouts disappear. Legendary sacred swords were broken and dragons were buried.
While we were reorganizing our troops with many wounded, demons suddenly attacked us. The magic tower lord I was escorting had his lower body ripped off by a demon with three pairs of wings. It was difficult to live because of the demonic erosion in the wound, but he still blocked the organs that were pouring in to save him somehow.
“Cool, what a pain.”
“Don’t tell me. I’ll bring you a potion.”
“Don’t waste the potion. I know my body well. You know that this wound cannot be healed in a world without divine power.”
“…”
He frowned for a while as if he was in severe pain, then opened his mouth.
“Did you know that? There is only one heaven and demon world, but there are hundreds of dimensions in the middle world.”
“This is the first time I’ve heard of this.”
“Crunch. It’s worth it. I also heard a story from my master before. They say that the Pandemonium and the Celestial World have been fighting for an incalculable amount of time. And this time, when the Pandemonium seized victory, they gathered a large force and invaded. In our middle world, where saints and saints are dying and perishing, we will withdraw our strength and strengthen other intermediate worlds.”
“Is this a story that even the prince knows?”
“That’s right. Even so, you don’t lose hope and the light shines, so I guess I was burned as well?”
He struggled to say if he had any last words.
“If the dimension is unstable, gates will open in many places…… Don’t hold on to the world that is perishing. When the opportunity arises, go over… Go…”
Shortly after, his breath stopped, and organs flowed from the place he had blocked with magic. Hot blood still flowed on the black blood-curdled floor. I closed his eyes with my bloody hands.
Like a habit, I looked at the sky. The blood-red moon illuminated me through the black sky. I got up and approached the survivors. It was full of cries.
When emotions become dull, even those who have become dull all cried out when the prince, who was like a lighthouse in the dark, died. The plains were filled with the roars of animals, not the sounds that came from human mouths. After crying for a long time, they began to commit suicide one by one. Today, the last death squad of mankind has collapsed.
I got out of that maddening scene and walked in a different direction. After walking for a while, I met a demon with two pairs of wings passing by.
The demon swung his right arm and both of my legs were cut off. He smiled at what was so funny and came up to me and lifted my severed right leg. And with two swings of my right leg, both arms were cut off.
They looked at me as I screamed. I felt a strange wave in the pain. Swallowing the pain, I turned my head and saw a small hole in the distance. Is that a gate? I put my chin on the ground and pulled myself up. So little by little we moved forward.
It was like a wriggling caterpillar. The demon crouched down and watched me move. Even though I tried to stop the bleeding with Qi, blood spurted out every time I squirmed.
Holding on to my gradually sinking consciousness, I pulled myself up to the front of the hole with my chin. The world turned upside down with a thump. My field of vision, which had only been looking at the floor, saw the face of a smiling demon, and I saw the ground again. It looks like the face is rolling. Just like that, only my face went into the hole and I was able to return.
It was a war that only saw one victory, but it was a war that could not be won in the first place. So after returning, I thought about it and decided on my future direction. I will continue to keep my popularity ranking high and become as strong as possible, and then safely send Irelle to Earth from the Mega Hard Yanderes. And after fighting moderately, if I survive and encounter the Gate again, I intend to go to another world.
“Now, just moving the troops like this can turn the situation around…”
The instructor talked about several cases, and when the class was in full swing, the instructor drank water to see if he was thirsty, then sat down on a chair brought from nearby and said.
“Also, in difficult situations like this, there are many ways to do it. You can learn new perspectives by listening to other people’s opinions.”
“That’s why I always have a problem at the end of my class.”
Having said that, he placed the magic chess pieces on the blackboard.
There was silence as everyone concentrated on the blackboard. And the situation on the board is a situation where the Imperial forces are surrounded by orcs.
‘It’s difficult from the first class.’
That’s a very difficult situation. No matter how much it was, it was too much to make a problem like that while learning tactics now. Several trainees scrambled to raise their hands and present their opinions. I saw a bird passing by outside the window. I was envious of the way it flew freely. I was watching the birds whirling in the sky, but the voices of the trainees who were talking loudly stopped.
Feeling strange, I turned my head and saw the instructor looking at me.
“Seeing that I often look out the window during my lectures, it seems that the content is too easy. Come out and try it out.”
I hate questions like this that don’t have an exact answer. No matter what situation you say, if it’s different from the direction the instructor thinks, you can get a refutation. And the opposing instructor had a reputation as a genius in terms of tactics since he was young, and is treated as a legendary figure in that field.
Judging by the frown on his face, it seemed that no matter what he said, he wouldn’t hear anything good about it.
I trudged and stood in front of the blackboard.
What kind of judgment would the 7 princes have made here? After thinking about it, he moved the words one by one and said.
“The enemy’s forces are already superior to ours, and they are based in rugged terrain.”
Looking at the situation on the blackboard and thinking about it, there have been several times like that. And each time, I searched my memory to recall the tactics the 7th prince had done.
“To defeat them, first divide our entire army into three groups, select elite troops from among them and form a death squad. Deploy the remaining two units on both wings and charge towards the enemy command center with the death squad as the vanguard.”
He moved quickly. As if I were on the battlefield, I was immersed and deploying troops.
“In this way, they deploy their formation straight ahead, destroy the attacking enemy, aim for the enemy’s head, and take advantage of the confusion of the enemies who are not connected from the front and back.”
It turns the direction of the moving horses, goes to various galleries, and then joins again.
“After sweeping through the enemy lines, they break through. This is the way I think of breaking through the impasse.”
The instructor looked at the blackboard without saying anything. There was silence and it was so quiet that no one even thought to speak first.
“Excellent. Today’s class ends here.”
After saying that, the instructor left the classroom.
