Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 861: The Undead Tribe's Next Target

Due to Amanata being delayed for too long, he wasted more divine power integrating his divine body, so he fell from a lower rank divine power to faint divine power.

Logically speaking, when a lawful neutral deity falls to such a state, it should evoke some sighs... but Hill's floating castle was filled only with an atmosphere of joy.

Celene's moonlight was almost twisting, suggesting that the Maiden of the Moon might very well be dancing around in her divine kingdom.

Shaer's shadow seemed still, but the flickering of that shadow's light revealed her mood swings.

Given the circumstances, Hill certainly felt no regret about this; he only worriedly asked, "Is there anything else the Undead Tribe can do in Kalinsan? Should they return to Agleya?"

"Reviving the Mil Forest will take at least a year," Celene replied joyfully. "There are still many divine beasts in the Karin Desert! Some of the Undead Tribe must stay behind to protect Vila's safety.

As for the others, just in time..."

"Just in time to make a trip to Anmur," Shaer interrupted Celene.

"Unless Anmur actively invites the Undead Tribe, they cannot just casually enter a sovereign country!" Celene said, not very pleased. "Haven't you already obtained what you wanted?"

"That place, Anmur, is really suitable for the Undead Tribe," Shaer countered. "Do an alignment detection, and even after wiping out all except the women and children, you'd still miss some fish slipping through the net."

"The Undead Tribe is not here to be the righteous judges of Toril," Celene asked her sister confusedly. "What are you thinking? Even Tyr's Righteous Knights wouldn't do such a boring thing."

"Hmm..." Shaer said with a bit of hesitation, "There are things I think William might want to know. Never mind, I'll go and tell him myself."

Before she finished speaking, Shaer had already disappeared.

Celene hesitated for a long time before she couldn't help but ask Hill, "Hill~ can I...uh...visit the Alchemy Hall in the city?"

"Of course you can." Hill immediately replied, "In Agleya City, you can walk freely."

But whether William would appear on the other side of the Temporal Artifact to talk to you, that was uncertain, Hill thought secretly.

William must be very aware of Shaer's taboos, and he wouldn't come out.

To get along well with the perennial enemy of one's admirer, that kind of obviously harmful behavior, William probably wouldn't do... Hill quite trusted his integrity in this aspect.

Hill wasn't worried about Celene's little thoughts; he was only desperately trying to recall that country, Anmur... William had never been too interested in Toril, listening to gossip was fine, and directing battles was okay, but there wasn't anything worth him wasting too much mental energy on.

Except for dealing with those Dilo Dwarves in the Underdark... anything else, he was just going with the flow, with the Undead Tribe mostly acting as mercenaries.

Shaer couldn't possibly not know this, so it couldn't be related to Elves... Despite the Undead Tribe acting close to the Father of Elves, those who work are unlikely to feel a strong sense of common cause with their boss's enemies.

Hill didn't need to think much to understand it must be something related to Teraxil that Shaer's Chosen, Iltmara, discovered while raiding the Twin Towers.

But the main participants were not in Anmur... The mages in Anmur, who like to hide in the shadows, often deal with evil races and are willing to take on any bizarre work.

Not only in Mark City but even the Abyss and Hell bear their footprints... For all sorts of rare materials, these mages are willing to do anything, even playing some thrill-seeking games with demons and evil gods is too normal.

Hill couldn't figure it out, nor could he proactively ask Shaer... The Dark Night Lady's gracious treatment of Hill was mostly due to William, he knew that very well.

Even though Shaer's attitude towards him was already considered mild, the information she did not disclose voluntarily, Hill best not inquire about.

He always reminded himself that secrecy was critically important to Shaer, and maybe William would get some exceptions, but that didn't mean Hill could proactively touch upon the Dark Night Lady's divine authority.

So he could only patiently wait for William's next move.

Hill believed that William also understood that before Mystra returned to her divine kingdom, it was the best time to search for secrets related to the deities.

Some matters for the followers of evil gods were of paramount importance, but to the evil gods themselves, they were not worth even a thread of divine power.

Therefore, as long as they catch the clues, they have the opportunity to unearth everything related to Teraxil.

The brutal Lord of the Dilo Dwarves, Dilinca, indeed caused great trouble for Teraxil, but there was no doubt he followed behind the Gray Dwarves.

William had already destroyed his dream of ascending to divine power once, and that part of the grudge had already been avenged.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have just withdrawn from the Underdark. Although it still feels somewhat unsettling, wars between different worlds can only end here... The level of revenge is definitely controlled by AO.

To allow the Undead Tribe to enter Toril and so openly wipe out a branch of the Dilo Dwarves, Hill can sense the hidden presence of the World Tree behind them.

Although their ancestor has always allowed his descendants to develop freely with the world, it doesn't mean he has no opinion about the Toril deities under AO's rule reaching too far.

Coron and Toril are deeply connected, and AO doesn't fear him... But the World Tree is different; if he really wants to cause AO some trouble, there are ways to do it.

So as long as it looks decent on the surface, it's fine, like having a group of Otherworld humans wear elven skins... 16, 7 level elves appearing in large numbers is normal, but humans are not; the contrast is too strong, easily causing riots.

However, this is only part of the reason why William agreed to have Coron hire the Undead Tribe.

Teraxil's past and even present still have many things that make people feel abnormal.

William hasn't directly gone to find the Gray Dwarves, presumably because he's looking for the origins of these abnormalities.

They are well aware that all this weirdness comes from Toril.

With patience, enough meticulousness, and careful searching in this world, they will eventually find that secret.

Hill stood up, glanced at the Alchemy Hall in Agleya City... He didn't actually think he would get this close so quickly.

He has indeed always been prepared... When the young girl Edna retraces the path to godhood, all sorts of demons will jump out.

Even if they know they might die without burial, the benefits a powerful divine power can bring before ascending... think of the Northern Seven Sisters, think of Kelben, and then think of Azuth still in the Stellar Realm... the temptation is too great.

Yet, before this grand banquet begins, William has gotten a clue.

With a bias from one of Toril's sources, it really makes things... manageable!

By the next morning, Hill knew the movements of the Undead Tribe... Apart from some who like to flirt and indeed don't want to keep messing with the Undead Tribe, the others plan to return to Suldofir, then switch ships to enter Thorn River along Steam Lake, reaching the Vehon Seas leading to Starfall Ocean—Yinbutu is their clear destination.

That country had already extended an invitation to the Undead Tribe before they entered the Underdark... hoping they could help eliminate the demonic bandits spread between the Giant's Ridge mountains and Rolins Forest.

However, for the Undead Tribe, Yinbutu's location is very inconvenient... After all, several countries in between won't allow them to pass, and these countries are members of the Silvermoon Alliance.

If it were other countries, a tougher stance would be acceptable, but because Kelben annoyed the Elf Deity System, relations between elf-dominated countries and the Silvermoon Alliance have been a bit tense in recent years.

William does not want the Undead Tribe to become the spark of a racial war, so he has always maintained a bypass policy if not allowed to pass.

Yet, this attitude has also made many countries that have lost the protection of deities and are struggling through the Magicplague... especially those near the Starfall Ocean, where storms containing destructive Primordial Power seem to have a particular fondness for them and sweep through every now and then... filled with expectations for this group of elves from Agleya.

But if the Undead Tribe wants to go from Agleya to Starfall Ocean, there will undoubtedly be a journey on land, and they must climb several mountains.

If the Underdark was a place they had to go, and there were many strange and unusual monsters to fight along the way, this path only offers fights against brainless goblins and mad magic-altered creatures besides tough mountain climbing... William absolutely doesn't believe he can make people willing to do this just by giving high experience.

So he postponed all these tasks.

Until he received news from Shaer, they happened to be not far from Steam Lake, reachable by waterways.

Yinbutu is another new and interesting country, and for the Undead Tribe curious about Toril, many should choose to visit... As for the resting time in between, wasn't there still seven or eight days of boat travel!

The waterways on this route are too complex, with wide and narrow sections, high and low spots, so the speed of the Undead Magic Ship is completely unfeasible, just right for them to choose to rest for two days.

As for Yinbutu as a country, speaking of strength, it's actually quite strong. After all, the territory is not small, and it is separated by an unstable Sesk from Sel ruled by the Red Robe Mage. If it weren't strong enough, it probably would have already become the Land of the Undead.

But its luck is bad.

During the Dragon Madness, it became the backdrop for Samast, Son of Destiny, and the entire country's defense system was pretty much destroyed by crazy giant dragons.

After all, they are not far from the Lead Square Mountains ruled by the Golden Dragon, and several nearby countries all suffered greatly.

Still recovering from Dragon Madness, the Magicplague began rolling forward... It truly rolls around those countries, but stops right in front of Sel.

From this perspective alone, the Lord of the Undead in Sel, thinking he is the master of the next century, actually doesn't seem so crazy.
