Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 807: Actually, It's a Dragon Beast

The twelve-headed proto-serpent lizard was fighting fiercely, but was nearly scared by the cheers of the Undead Tribe.

Although it was a famously powerful beast, and had once dominated far and wide, ever since becoming a follower of Shaer, its style inevitably shifted to being secretive, usually hiding in the swamps pretending not to exist... Followers of Shaer are not allowed to overly publicize themselves, unless by the command of Shaer personally.

Otherwise, with so many world-ending disasters stirred by Shaer priests, only two names of sect leaders fighting against each other would be famous worldwide.

So the proto-serpent lizard really hasn't felt such enthusiastic attention from others in a long time... It feels a bit overwhelmed by this kind of enthusiasm... Who is its Main God collaborating with?

Why are there so many people standing overhead... Does it no longer need to fight hiddenly?

Fighting against Evil God followers, with a large group of elves cheering energetically overhead... The proto-serpent lizard experienced this peculiar feeling, carefully straightening out its nearly knotted twelve heads, trying to concentrate on battling that worthless spider!

It stretched its body diligently, trying to appear unbeatable... Even the flames it spat seemed redder.

Since the Main God has changed style, can it also showcase its strength?

Hill watched the thriving multi-headed lizard on the giant screen, finally understanding why it didn't seem like a mindless beast... No wonder back then the Underdark deity chose this serpent lizard as its Chosen... It definitely has a multi-headed dragon as a parent.

He couldn't help but shake his head: In Toril, all the abnormal behaving beasts either had the misfortune to become a mage's test subject, or too much fortune, with their parents caught the eyes of giant dragons.

No wonder this serpent lizard is amber-colored, instead of the typical earth-yellow like your ordinary multi-headed lizard... Multi-headed dragons are brown.

And indeed, its lizard heads appear even more formidable.

If it's a dragon beast, then nothing is surprisingly unexpected... It can only be said that Shaer has fully inherited the legacy of that great lizard.

Most of the Undead Tribe are eagerly watching the commotion, remotely directing the multi-headed lizard to charge left and right... Occasionally, the serpent lizard follows their directions, which only fuels their enthusiasm.

But Hill noticed a slow-moving figure floating down to the base of the volcano... Although the name isn't familiar, it should be a Fire Element Mage... One of the Five Fireballs Sect leaders of the Snow Cloud Peak family... a part of the Magic Cult's management.

It's just that because the biggest enjoyment for these folks is 'burn, burn, burn', it contrasts sharply with their Clan Leader who uses more brain than hands.

Normally, the Clan Leader's style represents the family's ethos, such as the civil engineer style of the Black Rose... or the inconsistent style from top to bottom of Wenjian.

But the Magic Cult is entirely different, family members usually act like overworked corporate drones completely unwilling to use their brains, they prefer to act rashly in everything.

So many don't view this family as a whole with their Clan Leader... Most people just overlook the insane pursuit of destructive force by the other Magic Cult family members.

Yet when the critical moment arrives, Snow Cloud Peak still has more faith in his family!

Hill watched as the mage dawdled, winding around until he reached that gray, white and black bag... Those bizarre tri-colored lines were endlessly spinning and changing.

Although Hill couldn't tell what the bag was doing... The mage's performance suggested either an illusory realm or enchantment.

Yet the Fire Element Mage took only 10 minutes to escape the bag's binding... and then pulled out an oil painting from a familiar small pouch at his waist.

He placed the painting upside down, used a magic wand to flick the bag to the back of the painting... Instantly, a wailing sound startled both the battling multi-headed serpent lizard and the giant spider, causing them to stop.

This mage, however, paid no attention to those glaring monsters... Just gestured at the two with the ragged bag on the rack... Both the serpent lizard and Black Widow Spider's legs seemed to tremble at once, with their intelligence both able to discern the bag's current situation: this is like someone who can heal themselves being hung on the stake!

Feeling warned, the two beasts suddenly glanced at each other, simultaneously feeling a connection: Though they are part of the Evil Faction, it must be said, sometimes these so-called Kind Alignment are savvy about tormenting people!

But in reality, that Fire Element Mage just planned to tell these two boss enemies that what he was looking for had nothing to do with the thing they were fighting over.

Even though he risked being sent back even after the battle ended just for a not-too-lucrative task that was crucial to their Clan Leader's reputation, if he could survive, he'd rather not die... He really felt that the compensation couldn't make up for the experience he was losing!

Stomping his foot, the Fire Mage holding the large oil painting shot up into the sky, not noticing the webs shooting toward him from behind... but the Hydra Lizard, reacting quickly, burned the thick web threads. With his dragon lineage, he genuinely liked these Undead Tribe that brought him a sense of honor.

Dragons enjoy living either in the fear or adoration of intelligent beings, though the Snake Lizard didn't realize he had inherited this trait before, the first time he accepted cheers brought a rare joy to his life... The last time was after Shaer finished off Ebrandor and found this Snake Lizard had completely accepted the transition of the Main God... Yes, the reason this Snake Lizard could be dispatched by Shaer for such an important task is because not only did he know his Main God was dead, but he also delightfully shifted his faction.

He was willing to follow Ebrandor in the first place, of course, because although this big lizard didn't like gold and silver jewelry, he occupied many gemstone mines and was willing to share with his guardian beasts... For this alone, the Hydra Lizard would earnestly believe in him... He, being a pure fire element magical beast, suffered greatly in the Underdark.

He wouldn't be able to occupy such gemstone mines by himself.

If Ebrandor hadn't died, he would have fought bravely to protect the Main God who brought him so many benefits... But he truly didn't expect that Ebrandor was swallowed almost immediately without any resistance.

So, as a typical dragon beast, the Hydra Lizard swiftly changed allegiance... Dead is dead, right?

Not to mention Shaer offered even more!

Shaer, who dominated the entire Shadow Plane with her wealth, sometimes accepted the jewelry made of purple crystal and purple jade offered by her followers, but those were actually rewards for her followers... Followers qualified to offer up these exquisite jewels were basically appointed by Shaer as sect leaders.

She herself had no interest in occupying those jewels... As one of the twin creators, Shaer was definitely one of the richest goddesses in Toril, the other naturally being her twin sister Celene.

Back then, everything inside the Crystal Wall belonged to them... If it wasn't the best, most perfect thing, Shaer, with her slightly obsessive nature, wouldn't even want it.

So even though Shaer demanded absolute secrecy from her followers, actually they could be recognized easily: whether nobles or mages, those exceedingly fond of black and purple clothing and jewelry, if not them, those around surely have a touch of the same issue. Just knowing a little about these deities' followers' taboos would make it clear... Most followers of Shaer wore black cloaks or soft, soundless, dark uniforms with purple embellishments, trims, or adornments.

And those high-level members, or those who bore special tasks in Shaer's terrifying dark rituals, wore high-grade ceremonial attire, either a deep purple or black tight suit, and black velvet shirts were among their favorites.

Priests often wore a black brimless hat... except for those women with jet-black hair like coal jade.

Although they emphasized secrecy, Shaer wouldn't feel there was any issue with her followers dressing so mysteriously and seductively... How could she see what ordinary people's everyday attire even looked like?

Just like Celene, though she very much focused on the lives of women at the bottom, she wouldn't feel there was anything wrong with her priestesses wearing luxurious robes, living in opulent churches.

These powerful goddesses and the real world actually had a wall between them, things they dismissed as beneath notice were things beings like the Hydra Lizard had to fight desperately to snatch.

Just like Shaer naturally accepted the Hydra Lizard's smooth stance change, not caring at all that he was the Chosen of the Main God she just eliminated... She was long used to that lofty height.

The Hydra Lizard didn't care one bit about the angry hissing of the giant spider across... About Shaer treating her followers well, surely not, but with her peculiar mindset, her followers mostly lived in distress, yet compared to Rose's underlings, they could be considered to be living in heaven.

Shaer's followers merely needed to sacrifice their lives for their goddess... If a superior maliciously sent them to death, they could directly refuse, merely praying to report to the goddess would suffice.

But Rose's... honestly, even following behind a Demon Lord was better than following that giant spider.

Twelve heads simultaneously grinned with a sneer, the Hydra Lizard's tail instantly split and lengthened... The heritage from the multi-headed dragon was not just casually using dark arts, but also being able to freely split and extend the dragon tail.

The giant spider, attempting to ambush the Fire Element Mage, was caught off guard by the numerous fire pillars from the Undead Tribe burning above, and got knocked to the ground, spasming, by the slender tail enveloped in the Whip of Shaer spell.

The Undead Tribe cheered as they continued throwing fireballs downward... Anyway, they had already confirmed that even if they missed, it didn't matter.

This was a Hydra not afraid of fire.
