Chapter 145 - Rodwell's Secret (5)
Chapter 145
Rodwell’s Secret (5)
Rodwell stood atop the Imperial Palace.
Looking at his black wings, it was clear that he had absorbed the demon god’s finger in its entirety.
In the hands of a lesser being, their body would have burst at the seams, unable to handle the immense power.
Rodwell had a special body with dragon blood coursing through it.
*Oooh!*
Rodwell raised his hand, the corners of his mouth twisting up. The demonic energy in his palm was unsettling.
“Fabian, from now on, you’re going to have to stay behind, or you’ll be annihilated.”
“Understood.”
Fabian complied with the order.
Redin looked up at Rodwell, his grip tightening on the hilt of his sword as he immediately moved into action.
He had never faced him before in the game.
The only information he has is that he has dragon blood, and that he consumed a piece of the demon god’s flesh.
*Swoosh*
A black beam of demonic energy shot out. Redin countered by swinging his sword that contained an Aura Blade.
*Booom!*
The beam exploded upon contact with the sword, engulfing the area in a fiery blaze. Using dragon magic to shield himself, as he blocked the beam.
He felt a searing heat.
After blocking the black beam, Redin looked around and saw that everything around him had melted except for where he was standing.
“As expected, you can block something this light, so let’s see if you can handle this?”
Rodwell stretched out both hands and merged the two beams into one. Redin felt a force that sent chills down his spine.
The Eye of Arrakis was activated.
Redder than he’d ever seen in his life.
If he makes a mistake, he will surely die.
He concentrated, quelling the alarm bells in his head. Arrakis’s visible path to survival.
The blue line pointed skyward.
Kicking off the ground, he took to flight using his fairy wings. When he was well above Rodwell’s position.
*Swooosh!*
*BOOOM!*
Rodwell quickly flicked his arm, sending a black beam of light toward him. The black beam scraped the ground and quickly rose up.
*Rumble* *Boom* *Boom*
As the beam rose into the sky, vaporizing and destroying everything it touched, Redin used his shadow alter ego in time with it.
His target behind Rodwell.
Utilizing the [Shadow Movement], he slashed down at Rodwell. A blow containing an aura blade was delivered to Rodwell.
*Clang* *Skkrrrr*
Rodwell’s wings moved to intercept the blade. The demonic energy in his wings withstood the Aura’s energy.
Disengaging the black beam, Rodwell whirled.
Dodging a fast incoming punch, Redin dropped to the ground once more.
*Whooosh!*
Following in pursuit using his wings, Rodwell lashed out with his sword.
*Clang!*
*Skrrr!*
*Clang!*
As Rodwell and he used their respective Aura Blades, the battle became a standard one.
Exchanging swords and trying to find an opening.
They traded blows ferociously.
Then, as Rodwell dispersed demonic energy in all directions, he laughed triumphantly, feeling the demonic magic flow into Redin’s body.
“The power of debilitation.”
“…..”
“Did all your powers become weaker?”
Redin smirked at that.
Thanks to his resistance to demonic energy and the Phoenix’s power of purification, any demonic energy that entered his body was immediately purified and eliminated.
*Slash*
Charging back, Rodwell brought his sword up. Although he should have panicked, Rodwell calmly blocked Redin’s sword.
“You’re immune to demonic energy…..”
As Rodwell became even more serious, Redin used his shadow alter egos to attack from multiple angles.
Like a choreographed performance.
Him and the Shadows rushed Rodwell in rapid succession. Darting in and out of each other, they attacked Rodwell with a flurry of slashes.
Rodwell calmly parried each blow.
Redin continued to calmly assess the situation, not actively using his powers.
“Tsk.”
He clucked his tongue and distanced himself for a moment.
Redin hadn’t expected to take out Rodwell easily, but his cautious approach and control of his demonic energy made it even harder.
An item he’d prepared to use to take him down.
To use the item on his back, Rodwell would have to use the most powerful attack he had.
To do so, Redin would have to push Rodwell to the limit.
“……”
He glanced at Rodwell, then unsheathed his blade, Cairo, in his right hand and pulled out Moonlight in his left.
Then he plunged Moonlight deep into his chest.
*Squelch*
A short burst of pain spread through his body, and at the same time, the pain quickly dissipated, and his entire body began to overflow with energy.
[Blazing Soul is activated].
Outfitted with [Archmage’s Desire].
Pulling on the power of the Shadows, Redin activated Lord Mode.
Breaking the taut cord of tension, he shifted his body and lunged for Rodwell.
With a light leap, he crossed over the distance.
Swinging with all his might.
Rodwell blocked the attack, then frowned as he realized he was being overpowered.
“Keueug!”
*Baam!*
Rodwell’s body was knocked away.
Rodwell used his black wings to distance himself and recompose himself. Redin moved his body once more to stop it.
The [White Tiger Stride] and [Harungel’s Footwork]¹.
The two techniques he’d practiced before merged into one, increasing his speed to the absolute extreme.
Rodwell used his demonic energy to create a shield.
*Thud!*
*Crack*
The aura blade that contained the power of purification shattered the shield and slashed at Rodwell’s forearm. Red blood splashed as he brandished Moonlight.
Half Moon Slash.
A devastating blow delivered with his Aura Blade severed Rodwell’s left wing. It didn’t stop there.
Using the power of the shadows, he immobilized Rodwell’s limbs, preventing him from moving freely.
The shadows turned into thorny vines, restraining Rodwell’s entire body, and a Shadow Dragon he created in the sky swooped down to devour Rodwell.
Redin clenched his fists and unleashed the power of the shadows.
*Boooom!*
The shadow dragon exploded, creating a huge shockwave. He stared at the billowing smoke.
Redin didn’t think Rodwell would be killed by something like this.
Perhaps just a little irritating?
“….Kehahaha.”
He could hear Rodwell cackling through the smoke. With a sudden burst of air, the smoke dissipated, revealing Rodwell surrounded by black sparks.
His severed wings had been restored, and a small horn that hadn’t been visible before the attack sprouted from his forehead.
Rodwell covered his face with one hand and his eyes glared at Redin.
“That’s a shadow… Did Henry Baskervan have another child?”
“……”
“Well, I guess it doesn’t matter.”
Rodwell brought his demonic energy up.
The same tingling sensation Redin felt at the start of his encounter with the black beam returned.
*Flaps*
Rodwell spread his hands, wings flapping. Demonic Energy flowed from his body, changing the landscape around him.
The world was engulfed in a cascade of demonic energy.
“If you use the shadows to consume the demonic energy…… I can just feed it until it can’t swallow and spits it out.”
Rodwell’s eyes turned red.
The moment he closed his eyes, the world went dark.
Redin gathered the power of the shadows and reinforced his armor. Heightening his senses, he searched for Rodwell’s location.
Left? Right? Front? Back?
His senses strained to find Rodwell, but there was no trace of him.
There was little time left for the duration of the Blazing Soul.
He couldn’t let time pass meaninglessly.
Redin concentrated on rousing the God of the Sea in his chest, pulling in all the power of the shadows to awaken the slumbering god.
*Flash!*
A large amount of power was released from his body and the God of the Sea was called forth. Emerging into the world, it opened its mouth.
Inhaling deeply, the God of the Sea consumed the surrounding demonic energy.
At that moment.
For the briefest of moments, Rodwell’s form was visible. This time, he used the Power of Purification to evoke the Phoenix and bring it out of the land.
Flapping its azure flame wings, the phoenix swooped toward Rodwell.
*Skreeeee!*
The azure flames engulfed Rodwell.
At the same time, the God of the Sea devoured the demonic energy, creating a black thunderbolt above the flames that engulfed Rodwell.
*Rumble*
*Kaboom!* *Boom!* *Boom!*
Dozens of thunderbolts rained down.
Wanting to be certain, Redin swings Moonlight and Cairo in the direction of Rodwell.
Two half-moon slash flew off.
*Howl!* *Whoosh* *Swoosh!* *Whiff*
There was a tremendous explosion and a strong whipping wave of wind. Redin could barely stand, much less open his eyes.
Moreover.
From using all the power in his body at once, his vision blurred and his body overloaded.
“Argh!”
Unable to withstand the force of the explosion, his body flew backwards. He was blown by the strong wind and flung for a long distance before crashing into a tree behind him and crashing to the ground.
“Uweek!”
He spat out a large amount of blood.
Wiping the blood roughly with his right hand, he pulled a potion from his subspace pouch and drank it.
Pushing himself to his feet, he stood back up.
His body was too weak for the potion’s restorative powers to keep up. Ignoring the pain that was surging through him, he looked straight ahead.
Red eyes.
A giant eye floating in the sky, staring back at him. At the center of the eye was Rodwell.
Redin noticed the horns protruding from his head.
Between the two horns, He could sense a powerful force. Glancing around the area, it seemed that all the energy Rodwell had unleashed was being sucked into those horns.
*Heh*
Rodwell grinned.
At the same time, the black sphere between the horns grew rapidly.
The power he poured out, and the power Rodwell had.
A situation where those two forces were about to explode.
Instinctively, Redin knew the time had come.
The crate on his back shattered, its contents falling out. Lifting a dagger wrapped in white bandages.
[Cursed Demon Dagger (S)]
-A dagger capable of sealing away great power.
-This dagger can seal an opponent’s power equal to the power used by the wielder.
-However, using this dagger requires the wielder’s life to be sacrificed.
The wrappings are removed, revealing a red hilt.
With his right hand, he gripped the hilt of the sword, while with his left hand, he wrapped a bandage around his right arm.
“Are you going to stop my power with that little thing?”
Rodwell sneered.
“Small things are spicy.”²
“Bullshit!”
*Crack*
The ground cracked under the intangible energy that radiated from Rodwell’s body. A massive sphere formed atop the two horns.
The size of the imperial palace is easily surpassed.
“I will kill you and claim the power of the God of the Sea!”
Rodwell shouted, sending the black sphere in his horn hurtling forward. Seeing it, he rushed forward.
Before the black sphere touched the ground.
He stabbed the cursed demon dagger into it.
*Oooh!*
The moment the red dagger made contact with the force Rodwell shot out, a flash of red light engulfed the black sphere.
“This……?”
Rodwell’s wings disappeared from his back as he was flying through the air. He crashed to the ground with a sickening crunch.
At the same time, Redin’s heart stopped beating.
“Ugh.”
As his vision darkened, he became numb.
Emotions and sensations that are hard to explain.
In the midst of all of these thoughts, the Phoenix appeared.
[Phoenix’s Power is triggered].
Sensation returned to him.
Blinking his eyes, he saw the world as it was.
Something indescribable.
Redin stood up, trying to calm his nausea. What matters now is not whether he died or came back to life, but Rodwell.
“Aaarggh…… What the hell…….”
Rodwell was grinding his teeth.
As he walked towards him, he grabbed Cairo and Moonlight and approached the fallen Rodwell.
The guy stretched out his hand.
It seemed as though Rodwell was trying to use the dragon blood coursing through his body to cast some sort of dragon magic.
“It’s useless.”
He stomped the ground and plunged his sword into Rodwell’s heart.
*Squelch*
[You have harvested a cursed soul].
[Reading the target’s memories].
