Surgery Godfather

Chapter 1194: Female Doctor (Part 2)

"Professor, have a seat for a moment!" Song Zimo immediately stopped the laser knife in his hand.

But Yang Ping pretended not to hear and walked away.

The pause in the surgery caused the patient's heart rate to drop again. Song Zimo had no time to waste, so he continued the procedure with determination, trying to stay calm, moving forward step by step.

He couldn't stop or go too fast, as both would cause the heart rate to decrease. Therefore, he continued cautiously, carefully.

Finally, Song Zimo completed this step of the procedure, and the patient's heart rate gradually increased. At this moment, Yang Ping returned, "How's it going?"

"The adhesion you mentioned earlier is now separated," Song Zimo said as sweat trickled down his forehead. He turned, and the patrolling nurse wiped the sweat from his brow with a tissue.

"Hmm, next time you encounter this situation, don't rush. Stay calm. With your abilities, you can handle it. In any case, when separating in this area, try to minimize interference. The most easily overlooked interference is the tissue tension caused by pulling during separation," Yang Ping advised him.

"I understand!" Song Zimo took Yang Ping's words to heart, knowing the importance of keeping calm.

However, the more high-risk situations one experiences, the greater the likelihood of staying calm. This is why seasoned veterans don't fear going into battle.

The recent high-risk step was brief. Even the anesthesiologist, Doctor Wei, hadn't experienced it fully before it was over, and the atmosphere in the operating room returned to being relaxed and cheerful, with everyone starting to chat and joke.

Surgery, well, surgeons perform it every day. It's not very interesting to do it with a long face all day long. If you can chat about lighter, more pleasant topics, that's ideal.

"Who recommended this patient?" Yang Ping recalled being told it was recommended by Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Song Zimo replied, "Massimo and Raymond. Raymond is a friend of Massimo's."

"Raymond, haven't heard of this person? Is he a member of our forum?" Yang Ping found the name rather unfamiliar.

"No, he wants to join, but he doesn't meet the criteria for now," Song Zimo answered.

Yang Ping nodded, "Alright, I understand. You guys continue. I'm going to eat."

The next steps should be completed quickly by Song Zimo, so Yang Ping didn't need to worry. He left the operating room, sat in the changing room for a while, and it was very quiet there with only him. He leaned back on the resting chair and closed his eyes to relax.

After sitting in the changing room for a while, Yang Ping left the operating room and headed to the laboratory. Many researchers were still in the lab. Actually, Tang Shun encouraged them to rest and avoid working overtime if there were no special tasks.

But these people just loved doing research. Even after work, they preferred staying in the lab, even playing games. They felt it was more meaningful to stay in the lab's resting room, and even if they played games, it would be after 9 PM when everyone left.

This is what it means to make the lab your home environment.

Several PhDs in the lab were graduates from Nandu Medical University. They were discussing Guan Ruyan, who they heard was actually wealthy after going to the United States and had experience living abroad. Normally, he shouldn't have ended up in such a tough situation. They heard he was deceived by a fellow townsman and ended up penniless, wandering the streets.

The American society is different from Chinese society in that its lower-level tolerance is very low. Many things are interconnected, and once the economy collapses, it quickly forms a vicious cycle, leaving no choice but to wander the streets.

For example, although American houses seem to have permanent ownership, it's not quite the case. Property tax must be paid annually, and if you don't pay it, the house won't be yours after a certain period of default. The court can enforce a sale.

Additionally, the widespread drug issue in America means that once unemployed or facing other economic difficulties, a string of interconnected problems follow. It becomes quite like heavy chains. Once hope is lost, it's easy to resort to drugs for self-numbness, which ultimately leads to the individual's downfall.

This is likely what happened to Guan Ruyan; hence the higher number of homeless people in America, as analyzed by several doctoral students from a sociological perspective.

"Actually, our Chinese society has a much higher tolerance than America, especially at the grassroots level. No matter what difficulties someone from a rural area encounters, like unemployment, they at least have a house and a plot of land to fall back on, preventing homelessness or starvation."

"It's almost the same in the cities. As long as one is willing to work hard, they can earn enough to get by, such as delivering food, working at construction sites, or doing other odd jobs. These have no particular threshold as long as one can endure hardship."

"Be careful of fellow townspeople abroad. Many people suffer because of them, so sometimes you can't trust others too much."

"Guan Ruyan was said to be sold out by a fellow townsman when he went to America, and all his money was cheated away."

"He wouldn't have been deceived if he hadn't wanted to exploit others. It's said that he tried the same old trick, using the woman to establish himself in America, but it turned out that the woman was just like him. She changed husbands multiple times, treating marriage as a stepping stone every time. The two of them just happened to meet this type, and the woman had the home-field advantage."

"Oh, is that so? How do you know this?"

"My senior is currently in Los Angeles, and everyone in their circle knows this. The woman is a habitual offender, has cheated several people, and does it very ruthlessly, every time leaving them penniless."

"It's poetic justice for the one who plays with fire to get burned."

Lu Xiaolu had the day off today and didn't come. Moreover, this was the Stem Cell Laboratory, or else these PhDs wouldn't be discussing these matters. This was Professor Lu's sore spot.

"Let's not talk about this." One doctoral student proposed angrily.

Everyone wisely stopped; they had just started talking and quickly opened up the topic.

"I hear our institute is recruiting a lot of people this year. Many are returning from studying abroad, and many who graduated from Qingbei are now interested in coming to Sanbo Hospital after completing their PhDs in the United States."

"Yes, one of my seniors is inquiring about it here. Our institute has a great reputation over in the States, and many doctoral students studying there are interested in it."

"I heard that Professor Yang will personally conduct interviews. The upcoming interviews are sure to be exciting, and I want to go watch."

"How is it that Professor Yang's mind is so powerful, able to comprehend any book or paper, seemingly without having missed anything? When he reads, does he speed read and remember everything?"

"It must be that way; a genius's mind is beyond our understanding."

"There is someone named Cheng Yanjun who graduated from Peking University, later went to the United States, and is now a lab director there. He's produced a slew of top-tier papers despite only graduating a few years ago. This guy is quite arrogant, often leaving people speechless in public without any regard for their face. I've heard he's coming over, but not as a regular graduate interviewee, rather to have a chat with the professor alone."

"Are you talking about Cheng Yanjun from Harvard Medical School, who reportedly went to Tsinghua at fourteen and won the International Mathematical Olympiad World Championship?"

"Yes! That's him. It's said that during his graduation interviews in America, he had professors at a loss for words."

"Everyone has to learn humility in front of a professor. Mark my words, just wait and see."

"When that guy comes here, I bet it'll be the first time he's at a loss for words."

When Yang Ping entered, the doctoral students immediately stopped their chatter and stood up to greet him, "Professor!"

"Where is Doctor Tang?"

Yang Ping had just been to Tang Shun's office and didn't find him.

"I heard he took Dr. Li to get a surface ultrasound. There were too many people during the day, so the ultrasound department allowed them to have a separate one after work," one of Tang Shun's doctoral students replied.

"Oh! Why haven't you guys left work?" Yang Ping noticed so many of them gathered after hours.

"We're just chatting here. We're all homebodies and love being in the lab."

Yang Ping looked around and saw it was all male students. On a previous visit to Nandu Medical University, a doctoral student had suggested recruiting more female Ph.D. students, with papers to back it up.

Well, it seems our laboratory could also benefit from having a certain number of female Ph.D. students.

Taking this recruitment opportunity to increase the number of female researchers might be good, Yang Ping thought. This is a serious matter.
