Surgery Godfather

Chapter 1183: Remote Surgery (Part 2)

Dean Xia is always so courteous, Yang Ping said: I'll come over.

Dean Xia immediately stopped him: "You are very busy, we are more available than you, we'll come to you."

Yang Ping sat in the office waiting, and soon Dean Xia arrived with four people: Dean Liu, Professor Qin, a leader from Beijing, and the leader's accompanying secretary.

"Professor Yang, I've long admired you." The leader immediately shook Yang Ping's hand.

"You're too kind." Yang Ping didn't know what had happened, but he could see urgency on their faces, probably there was a difficult surgery they needed him for.

Dean Xia introduced both parties, and everyone quickly got to the point.

"Professor Yang, this is urgent, let me briefly explain the situation: one of our chemical experts, Academician Fang Zhengming, had a car accident in Africa and is severely injured. You're aware of the conditions there. We wanted to transfer him back for surgery, but we're afraid it's too risky, so we'd like you to take a look."

"Let me take a look." Yang Ping made a prompt decision, this matter could not be delayed.

It seemed like a complicated issue; if it was just to look at some films, so many people didn't need to fly to Nandu.

Yang Ping knew this Academician Fang was a top expert in a certain field in our country and had made significant contributions to the nation.

Professor Qin took out the disc they brought. Each floor of the institute had a computer with a CD drive. Yang Ping put the disc in and opened the case materials inside.

"Absolutely cannot transfer! Academician Fang is in great danger now and needs surgery as soon as possible. This surgery is also very risky; the intracranial area is extremely dangerous. I must perform the surgery myself. Send me over quickly, I will draw up a list immediately, prepare the medication, instruments, and equipment according to my list." Yang Ping said as he took out a pen and paper to start the list.

The leader took a look and seemed quite troubled.

"Why? Is it difficult to gather these things?" Yang Ping wondered; it shouldn't be.

Dean Liu said: "We can prepare the items immediately, and the transport aircraft can also take off at once. But... could you send a student instead? You don't have to go personally?"

Yang Ping shook his head: "I must be the chief surgeon."

"But you don't know, it's very chaotic and dangerous over there now. Higher-ups won't possibly let you risk your life." Dean Liu was very resolute.

"It's not a big deal, I've been to Yemen before and have experience in this area." Yang Ping felt that the surgery was critical.

Dean Xia said: "Back then was back then. Now it's different, no way you'll go to such a dangerous place; higher-ups definitely won't agree."

Yang Ping understood their well-meaning intent. Since that attack, he could tell that security had been significantly enhanced. On the surface, nothing seemed different, but there were more security personnel inside and out. To not burden security, Yang Ping basically traveled only between two points and didn't go out.

Now he was well aware that if he acted on impulse to take risks and lost his life, he couldn't contribute anything to the country. Only by staying alive well could he continue contributing to the country.

Actually, if he went, it might be risky; but if someone else went, it might not be dangerous.

When everyone mentioned that he couldn't go abroad, he didn't passionately insist on going to the most dangerous places.

Being rational is very important for a doctor.

Every medical student knows that in emergency care, the primary observation is whether the environment is safe. When rescuing, one must protect oneself; if the environment is unsafe, not only is it impossible to rescue, but one might also get involved. Mere enthusiasm is useless; scientific methods are needed.

Yang Ping pondered what to do. Everyone fell silent.

"Could you send one of your students and then guide the surgery remotely via phone or other means?" Professor Qin also suggested.

Yang Ping shook his head without hesitation: "No, that's too dangerous, the success rate of the surgery would be very low."

Indeed, if it wasn't such a difficult surgery, Professor Qin and Dean Liu wouldn't have rushed to find Yang Ping; they could have arranged for someone else to solve it.

Yang Ping suddenly remembered: "There's another way."

"Quick, tell us!" The leader became excited.

Yang Ping said: "Using a surgical robot for remote surgery. Now send a set of remote robots there, and doctors over there can assist me. I will use the console here to remotely control the surgical robot."

Professor Qin's eyes lit up, this was a good idea.

However, he immediately thought of a new problem. In that small African country, the internet is particularly poor, not to mention 5G. At that time, only satellite network communication technology could be used, and any delay or lag would invisibly add difficulty to the surgery.

Previously, Yang Ping had performed surgery on astronauts from the United States using remote surgery equipment, so operating remotely posed no difficulty for him, but communication complications did.

"This indeed is a good plan, but there are two problems: one is the network communication issue, and the second is what to do in case of an emergency," Dean Xia pondered.

Yang Ping thought for a bit and said: "Use satellite communications and send one of my students to cooperate with me."

This essentially resolved the problems; is there a better way? Professor Yang could perform the surgery personally without going abroad or taking risks.

The leader considered this newly proposed plan and found it indeed an impeccable strategy.

Given the urgency of the situation, he didn't hesitate much: "We'll adopt this plan. Professor Yang, list the equipment you need and hand it over to us. We will immediately procure the best equipment, and for personnel deployment, Dean Xia, what do you think?"

Dean Xia said: "Song Zimo is the most suitable candidate; he was personally trained by Professor Yang, with top-notch technical skills and has been serving as Yang's assistant for a long time."

Yang Ping also thought he was the most suitable.

Professor Qin said: "This trip is indeed very dangerous for you, but for others, it might not be dangerous at all."

Everyone understood his point.

"I will call Song Zimo over now and implement it immediately."

"Professor Qin, please arrange the surgical robots and related equipment..."

Yang Ping immediately said: "For the surgical robots and related equipment, let's use our domestically made Ruixing Medical surgical robots; I'm quite accustomed to using them."

It's not that Yang Ping had any personal interest; although Ruixing Medical's surgical robots are new, Yang Ping frequently used them during testing, so he's very familiar with them. Moreover, this robot has a module that other surgical robots don't have; that's the satellite communication network module.

"Alright, contact Ruixing Medical immediately and expedite the procurement of their robots," the leader said.

"Let them donate one for contributing to the country," Yang Ping suggested to the leader.

With both the machines and people ready, it was now time to send them over ASAP. The leader from Beijing immediately began to strategize on the spot; these brains on national duty were indeed effective. He wasn't rushed, maintained clear logic, quickly completed scheduling, planned to use a transport aircraft to deliver the equipment over and contacted other departments for route coordination, relevant preparations for aircraft and airport.

Soon, Song Zimo arrived at Yang Ping's office.

Seeing so many people here and even spotting Dean Liu and Professor Qin, intelligent as he was, he immediately realized what was going on: a major surgery required Professor Yang's involvement.

Song Zimo greeted everyone, and Dean Xia gestured: "Please have a seat."

It turned out there wasn't a chair left for him. Song Zimo said: "It's alright, I'll stand."

"Why stand? Here, here, I'll go fetch a chair." Dean Xia gave up his own chair and dragged Song Zimo into it, while Song Zimo was still reacting, Dean Xia had already brought another chair in.

Dean Xia explained the matter's background, and Song Zimo readily agreed without saying much: "When do we leave? I'll prepare my luggage right away."

The young man had such high awareness; without a hint of hesitation. The leader from Beijing was very satisfied, realizing the young people at Sanbo Hospital were indeed vibrant and full of energy.

"Professor Yang, regarding medical aspects, is there anything else you'd need?"

Yang Ping pondered for a moment, finding nothing else special.

Once things were settled, the leader planned to stay at Sanbo Hospital to oversee coordination. He would establish a temporary command center at Sanbo Hospital, while the operating room for Yang Ping's surgery would be set in the institute's robotic operating room, where there's also a Ruixing surgical robot fitting for pairing with the robot sent to Africa. This way, the console on this end could control the robot on the other end.

To ensure everything went smoothly, Ruixing dispatched engineers to accompany them. In case of any problem, it could be resolved on-site. Huang Jiacai, meticulous in handling matters, privately rented a charter plane to rapidly send two identical sets of surgical robots with an engineering team along.

This way, in case of robot failure, these two sets served as spare parts. If all went well, he intended to donate the two sets of robots to the African states.
