Chapter 20: Fate and Choices
He stood under the small waterfall from his hot spring. His hand pressed against the wall his head down and his hair all around him. Water washed down the side of his face, his eyes closed his mind in a million places and in one place all at the same time. That was in till his father opened the door. Sesshomaru looked over at his father who was leaning against the frame with his arms crossed. "You might have a chance after all," he said.
Sesshomaru was not in the mood for any more of this father's help. He looked back down.
"Something wrong?" His father asked,
Sesshomaru didn't answer he wanted to be left alone.
"I see; well, while you figure out how you feel, just think about how she feels,"
Sesshomaru turned to look at his father again only to find him already gone.
His thought drifted to their upcoming child, just hearing that run in his head was odd their child, our child She was baring him his first son, damn.
Kagome sat alone in her room; so many things happening today. First Inuyasha, then this, who knows what is next, and she wasn't sure she was ready for whatever it was. Then a knock came to her door. "Come in,"
Sesshomaru's father came walking in. "Are you feeling better?"
Kagome looked down. "Yeah, I guess." Truth be told, while she liked the man he was starting to be exhausting to her.
"Somethings bothering you?" He walked closer to her. "Inuyasha's back,"
"Indeed."
She looked up at him, did he know that he was going to return? "Kikyo is with him," She would just see what he knew.
"As she should be,"
Kagome's eyes widen; he did know, knew. "What do you mean?" She asked,
"I sent him after her, a wrong made right; she now breaths as I do,"
"Alive?" She whispered,
"Indeed,"
"But why?"
"Because I say it so," His face went hard "Why do you ask the questions?"
Kagome looked away from him "Kagome you are with who you should be with," Her head snapped back to him not at all in agreement.
"It is fated,"
She didn't want to hear this " Kagome-
"No, this wasn't fate, this was him being stupid,"
He just shook his head. "You are thinking too much into this," He stood,
Kami how she didn't like him right now. "What then?" He wasn't thinking enough about it, in her opinion. Demons.
"You have a choice now," He said. "This is your life, you carry his child, you are mated,"
She looked at her belly,
"You have a choice now,"
"Do I?" She whispered; it didn't feel that way. How could she ever be happy? Sure this baby would make her happy but would she ever have another, could they get to a point where things were mutual? Could they make those types of choices? If anything he still had all the choices, all the paths, whereas she could only choose what to do following him down those paths. Try and be happy. Normal? It seemed impossible, she shook her head; she was thinking too much, too far.
When she looked up, he was gone. All she could do right now was focus on today, maybe tomorrow.
Kagome ran her hand over her growing belly as she went to make the only choice she could make for tomorrow, her outfit.
She picked up a blue and yellow kimono and dropped it.
She felt her first flutter.
She smiled. "So you like the blue and yellow?" she asked, and again a flutter. She smiled. "What about the silver?" again another small fluter. Kagome bit her lips with excitement. She laid out the three colors and smoothed them out. "You're playful today," she said with a giggle; then she felt something else and looked to the door. Sesshomaru was coming down the hall. There were a few men behind him along with his father.
She could see the men talking to him, but she could tell he was not hearing them. His eyes were on her as were her on his. They came closer, and she walked to the door wondering what was going on all of a sudden. Sesshomaru stopped and put his hand up. All the men stopped talking. Sesshomaru gave her a look as if he were waiting for her to say something. She just tilted her head a bit a could not help a small smile as she felt another flutter.
"Come here," He heard her say. In the background, his father was smiling big. Sesshomaru ignored the gasp from the men as he walked into the room, slowly shutting the door behind him.
"Come, men, I shall show you to the study, my son will join us in a moment."
Once they were gone, Sesshomaru spoke, "You should not command me,"
She wanted to roll her eyes. "I wasn't; it was your choice to come or not,"
"The only time a female would be permitted to command her Lord to come, woman, in front of others is if she wishes to lay with him."
She blushed; great is that what those men were thinking? She felt another movement and smiled, and then she heard Sesshomaru growl.
"What's wrong with you?" she asked,
He didn't answer, again another flutter, and again he growled; Kagome giggled, "What is so funny, woman?"
"Every time the baby moves you growl," She giggled some more, but she stopped when Sesshomaru stepped to her in one step and placed his hand on her belly. He was not looking at her, that was until he felt it too. Their eyes met.
"He has found his movement," She said,
"I take it your pain from earlier is gone,"
Her smile faded, and she tried to hold back her blush. "Yes,"
"I must return, rest Miko," He removed his hand and left the room.
Kagome watched him walk down the hall. Was this what her whole life was going to be like? Granted this interaction was better, short, to the point, but better. Kagome rubbed her arms, suddenly feeling cold.
Meanwhile, in the meeting Sesshomaru's foot bounced, something he never did; his father noticed this. As the men left, Sesshomaru still sat there, that was in till his father slammed the doors. "My son,"
Sesshomaru stood up. "What is it now, Father?"
"The book, have you read it again?"
No, he had not, nor did he want to; he had other things on his mind, like his mate and why he was being pulled to her. Maybe he needed to get laid, but there was no chance in hell she would allow it. But he was in need.
His father must have read his mind,
"Don't, son,"
Sesshomaru just looked at him.
"Go to her, not another."
"This is none of your concern," and Sesshomaru walked out, not heeding his father's warning.
Father sighed deeply; if his son did this, he would deeply regret it, maybe not right away, but he would, and what if Kagome found out? So she wasn't in love with his son, but Kagome was a good girl, and though they didn't see it, there was hope. Surely Sesshomaru would not go through with it. Sesshomaru hated the idea of concubines and even double matings.
Kagome would be faithful to Sesshomaru bc that was her nature, but if he went through with this and she found out it would break her, there would be no hope for forgiveness, ever.
He wondered for a moment if his son even wanted forgiveness.
Sesshomaru was always good with decisions, but not when it came to one evolving the heart, but that was because he believed he didn't have one.
But he did, and it was in Kagome's hands, and she didn't even know it; he didn't know it, but this decision could crush it and change the fate and outcome of a future he knew could be so sweet for them.
Kagome was right, fate was bound by choices, and his son was making a grave choice; those women would give him nothing but temporary relief, but what he craved was not with them, but with her, his mate.
Kagome.
