Chapter 283: It's weird (Bonus Chapter)
After Irene's unexpected reply, silence fell in the room.
Idan and Arabel were at a loss and looked at each other, unable to believe what they had just heard.
"Miss Irene, are you sure?" asked Idan, wanting to make sure of her words.
"Yes, Ethan, I'm sure. I can't be wrong about that," Irene replied firmly.
"If that's the case, then who are these people pretending to be members of your Guild?" said Idan after some thought. "Everyone here considers them part of your Guild, Miss Irene. Even Arslan thinks so."
"I do not know, Ethan. I'm wondering who they are myself," Irene said, and Idan noticed the concern in her voice when he mentioned Arslan.
"Don't worry, Miss Irene, we will definitely look into what is happening while we deal with your personal request," Idan assured her. "Besides, I'd like to know..."
Using their connection, Idan asked Irene his questions one by one. She answered the ones she knew, and decided to find out what she didn't know and share it with him later.
Idan was also surprised when he found out that the last time Arslan contacted Irene was after his arrival in Rumbus. After that, he did not get in touch. Irene wasn't too worried about this, as Arslan had warned her back then that he had limited access to the network and would rarely get in touch. However, now, after talking with her brother, Irene began to worry about Arslan.
Besides Arslan, Idan also asked questions about the guilds "Wings of Freedom", "Red Sails" and "Untouchables".
"So you're saying that the leader of the Untouchables, Milena Orleans, is in Rumbus?"
"Yes, Miss Irene, she's here," Idan confirmed.
"It's weird," Irene said. "It's strange that she went North on her own. As the heiress of the Orleans family, she should be the center of attention and under reliable protection. And the fact that she ended up there in the North seems too strange."
Idan, listening to his sister's words, decided not to tell her about the unusual relationship between Arslan and Milena Orleans yet. After watching the memories he received from Ned, Idan wasn't sure exactly what kind of relationship the two had.
He decided to look into this issue on his own first, and only then share his observations with his sister. Especially since it was Arabel's younger brother, and Idan wanted to believe Arabel's words about her younger brother.
"Then, Miss Irene, please find out all the details about the assignment Arslan received before heading North. Also find out all the questions about other guilds, especially about Milena Orleans. It seems to me that something strange is happening here," Idan expressed his opinion.
"Okay, I'll get on it," Irene agreed with her younger brother's reasoning.
Throughout the conversation, the brother and sister communicated as people connected only by business relations.
"By the way, did you mention that after Arslan left, you took over the management of his guild? Am I right?" asked Idan.
"Yes, Ethan. Before he left, Arslan asked me to keep an eye on the remaining members of his guild and help them," Irene confirmed.
"Then you should be familiar with at least some of the members of Arslan's Guild, if not all of them?"
"Yes, I'm familiar with most of the members of Arslan's Guild," Irene stated confidently.
"Then, Miss Irene, do you know Milla?" Idan suddenly asked, having a strange idea. He decided to ask his sister if she knew Milla.
"Milla?" asked Irene.
"Yes, Milla. I do not know her last name, but I know that she belongs to Arslan's Defenders Guild," Idan clarified.
"It's strange, I don't remember Arslan's Guild having an awakened with that name," Irene mused. "But don't jump to conclusions, Ethan. I'll ask the rest of Arslan's Guild members about her first. I'm not familiar with all of them, maybe she's just one of them. Just describe her appearance and character to me."
Idan accurately conveyed Milla's appearance and character, as well as how they met and how she helped him upon his arrival in Rumbus. Irene listened attentively to her brother's story, trying to memorize every word.
"Okay, wait a bit, I'll try to find out about her," Irene said, pressed the hold button and immediately dialed the number of her friends from the Arslan Guild, whom she trusted.
"What do you think about that?" Idan addressed Arabel through a mental link, noticing that his sister had pressed the hold button.
"It's hard to say. But I agree with you that something strange and incomprehensible is going on here," Arabel replied, then, after thinking about it, asked: "Don't you think you're being too careful?"
"No, on the contrary, I think I'm being too careless. I am almost one hundred percent sure that our conversation with my sister Irene is being monitored," Idan shared his worries.
From the moment they arrived at the Idan military base, he had the feeling that they were being closely watched.
"Ethan? Are you there?" Irene called after a short pause.
"Yes, Miss Irene, I'm here," Idan replied quickly.
"I reached the members of Arslan's Guild and found out that..." Before Irene could finish, the call was interrupted and ended.
Idan, looking at the screen of his smartphone, immediately realized what was the reason for the sudden interruption of the call. The access point has been blocked.
Less than ten seconds later, the door to the room where they were staying opened and a military man entered. However, it was not the one who helped them register and get permission, but a completely different one.
"Mr. Ethan and Miss Isabella, the time allotted to you at the access point has expired. If you have nothing else to do, I ask you to leave the Base and come back next time," the military officer said politely.
Arabel frowned at these words. She clearly remembered how the military man who helped them told them that they could use the access point as much as they wanted before they left the Base. But now another military man claims they had limited time?
Before Arabel could ask a question, Idan interrupted her.
"Belle, we're leaving," he said, using a mental link. Then, looking at the military man, Idan said, "Okay, we'll come back another day. Can you show me the way?"
"Follow me," the soldier said, leaving the room. Idan and Arabel did not hesitate and followed him.
"Dan, what's going on?" Arabel asked Idan, following the military man.
"I don't know yet," Idan replied honestly. "There are so many strange things happening in this city. There's a group that pretends to be members of the Queens Guild. Your little brother is acting strangely. And then there's Milena Orleans, who has an amazing power of suggestion. And finally, the mysterious Kraus connection and the inexplicable behavior of the military..."
One by one, Idan began to list all the oddities that he had noticed in this city during his three days here.
Idan couldn't help but think that something sinister was going on in the city.
