Supreme Heir Son-in-law

Chapter 691: Disaster Without Cause

"You can't leave." The girl looked at Xu Ke with resentment and said.

"Let go." Xu Ke glanced at his own clothes being grabbed. Because the girl was holding on too tightly, wrinkles had already appeared where he was grabbed.

"I won't let go, you troublemaker. You caused me to break up with my boyfriend. You must give me an explanation today." The girl clung onto Xu Ke's clothes persistently.

Before Xu Ke could say anything, the onlookers couldn't listen any longer. "What's wrong with you, young lady? What does your breakup have to do with this young man? I know breaking up is hard, but you can't just blame someone randomly." An older man standing in the crowd looked at Xu Ke, who was being grabbed, with sympathy and said.

"If you've lost your boyfriend, go after him. Grabbing this young man won't get you a boyfriend back." An older woman in the crowd, who had watched the commotion from beginning to end, couldn't help but speak up.

"I don't care. My boyfriend and I were fine until he suddenly butted in and stirred trouble. We wouldn't have argued at all, and none of this would have happened. My breakup is entirely his fault. If he doesn't give me an explanation today, he can't pass here. And neither can you unless you push me down the mountain."

The woman spread her arms, blocking the mountain path, her eyes filled with angry determination.

"How can you be so unreasonable, young lady?"

"You don't want to go up, but we do."

"So domineering and unreasonable at such a young age. Whoever marries you is terribly unlucky."

Words of condemnation came out one after another from the onlookers' mouths. The girl's already displeased face turned even worse, yet she had no intention of leaving, stubbornly standing in the middle of the mountain path as if she could preserve her love and dignity that way.

However, in some ways, the girl indeed succeeded. She single-handedly blocked the people on the mountainside, preventing them from taking even one more step forward.

Even though they wanted to push this girl aside to go up, no one dared to be the first to take the plunge. Who knows if this girl would go crazy and jump off the mountain if they went past her? If she doesn't jump, fine. But if she does, wouldn't they bear the weight of a life for the rest of their lives? No one wanted such a burden.

For a moment, truly no one moved forward.

The girl's initially fearful heart suddenly steadied, and even a trace of smugness appeared on her face.

Seeing no one opposing her, the girl turned her attention back to Xu Ke. "You troublemaker, you caused my breakup. I want you to apologize sincerely." She raised her voice as she spoke.

"Impossible." Xu Ke refused her request outright, even before her words had fully landed, leaving no room for negotiation.

The girl's breath almost got stuck in her throat from Xu Ke's words.

"Don't you know how selfish you are? This entire thing is your fault, yet you don't want to take responsibility. Let me tell you, if you don't apologize today, I won't let this path open. Do you think you're wasting only our time? Let me tell you—you're wasting their time and their affairs. If you want everyone to wait here with you, I have no objections. Anyway, I have plenty of time and nothing to fear."

The girl, taking a defiant and unyielding stance, once again managed to intimidate the crowd.

Humans are selfish creatures. Selfishness is almost embedded in their bones.

When their interests weren't touched, they could watch quietly or excitedly on the side. If they were in the mood, they might even point fingers at the protagonists of the scene. But when it comes to their own interests, they immediately switch to a posture eager to strip flesh from the other side.

Therefore, when the crowd heard that as long as Xu Ke apologized, the girl would clear the path, they didn't consider whether it was fair to Xu Ke. They only thought, if sacrificing one person can benefit everyone, why not? After all, they weren't the ones being sacrificed.

"Good kid, just apologize. Once you do, she'll open the path, and we're in a hurry to get up the mountain. Being stuck here is not right." Someone couldn't help but speak first to persuade Xu Ke to give in.

"As a boy, you should be lenient with girls. Besides, saying sorry isn't that difficult. Consider it a good deed. Just apologize; so many people are waiting behind us. We can't stay here stuck," another followed suit.

With a second voice chiming in, could a third be far behind? In no time, the mountain echoed with people urging Xu Ke to apologize.

The girl, looking at the scene before her, was filled with smugness. It was the first time so many people stood by her side. She completely ignored that the current scene was brought about by her threatening others with her life.

"I'm not asking him just to say sorry. I want him to kneel and beg for my forgiveness. After all, he disrupted a marriage—it was my future. Is it excessive to ask him to kneel and apologize?" the girl said confidently, looking at Xu Ke.

Upon hearing the girl's request, the crowd instinctively closed their mouths. Asking someone to kneel was a far cry from just asking for an apology—it's humiliation, trampling on another's dignity.

Those who initially persuaded Xu Ke also fell silent, just watching Xu Ke and the woman standing on the steps with heavy expressions.

Even those who couldn't bring themselves to say such humiliating words—to ask Xu Ke to kneel—had closed their mouths. Only a small few with flickering eyes remained silent.

Looking at the seemingly young girl, Xu Ke displayed a mocking smile, "You want me to kneel and apologize? How bold of you. Just because your skin is thicker, does that mean I must listen to you?" Xu Ke activated his Taunt Skill.

"You're insulting me! How dare you insult me!" The girl looked at Xu Ke in shock. Then, realizing what Xu Ke meant, she screamed and reached out to slap him, only for Xu Ke to grab her wrist, making it feel like he was holding a barely feathered chick.

"And if I am? Shouldn't you be insulted? Be glad that you're a girl and that I have a sister around your age. Otherwise, I wouldn't just insult you; I'd hit you too." Xu Ke looked at her coldly.

"Do you think the world revolves around you? Being so presumptuous to a stranger—an able-bodied man, at that. Do you think life has been too easy, and you now want to try being crushed? Or do you think you're still a nursing child and everyone must defer to you?" Xu Ke pressed further, looking into her eyes.

"Threatening others with your life—if you don't care about your life, why should others? Don't be ridiculous. Go home and drink your milk."
