Suppressing the Protagonist at the Start to Seize the Heroine

Chapter 239

Chapter 239: Su Lin’s Crisis

Both men snorted coldly before Ma Junjie spoke to Su Lin, “Su Shao, sorry but I need to discuss some matters too, I won’t interrupt your reunion.” Ma Junjie emphasized the word “reunion,” clearly aware of the grievances between Su Lin and Xiao Feiyu.

After giving Xiao Feiyu a cold look and a smirk, he turned and left without waiting for Su Lin’s response.

Now alone with Su Lin, Xiao Feiyu dropped his pretense. Without provoking Su Lin further, he walked away without looking back.

Su Lin watched the retreating Xiao Feiyu and remarked, “This guy has really grown up.”

Unlike Xiao Chen, who never learned from his mistakes, Xiao Feiyu was always adapting his behavior and progressing.

Su Lin had seen through his intentions several times, possibly because he had been too cautious and well-prepared, always managing to come out on top. This restraint was why Xiao Feiyu had stopped provoking Su Lin directly today.

Knowing that the event was hosted by the Su family, albeit on Li family premises, Xiao Feiyu was aware of Su Lin’s strong ties with Li Ziyu. Li Ziyu’s success in taking control of the Li family was undoubtedly linked to Su Lin, which explained Xiao Feiyu’s silence; any disruption could lead to his disadvantage, even if Wang Yannian had brought experts from his family to support him.

Shaking his head, Su Lin thought to himself that Xiao Feiyu was becoming increasingly withdrawn, possibly heading towards a complete breakdown.

As Su Lin was about to return to the ladies, a familiar figure approached him. Song Zhigang, looking sharp in a suit, greeted him warmly. “Young master Su~!!”

Su Lin, nearly failing to recognize him, laughed and said, “Old Song, it hasn’t been that long since I last saw you, but you look much younger and more spirited.”

Song Zhigang replied modestly, “Since returning to my family, I’ve been eating and drinking well, which has improved my complexion.”

“That’s great to hear. Old Song, why didn’t you let me know in advance that you were coming?”

With a serious expression, Song Zhigang explained, “I wasn’t planning to come initially. Mr. Su has already made the Song family’s position very clear. But I received some information, so I decided to come personally.”

“Oh? What information brought you here in person?”

Song Zhigang said, “I heard that Wang Yannian flew to Beijing and visited the Liu family, who received him.”

“Yes, I know about that; he went there to propose a marriage for Xiao Feiyu.”

Song Zhigang continued seriously, “Wang Yannian did more than propose marriage. When he returned to Donghai, he brought several people with him, including Zhao Changlin.”

“Imperial Capital’s Zhao Changlin?” Su Lin asked, surprised.

Song Zhigang nodded, “He’s a real martial fanatic. Every notable figure in the capital has been challenged by him, and he has never lost.”

“Zhao Changlin is affiliated with the Liu family?”

“It’s not surprising,” Song Zhigang explained. “Zhao Changlin and Bai Qikun are known as the ‘Twin Dragons of the Capital.’ This time, coming to Donghai with Wang Yannian, he’s definitely here for you.”

Su Lin nodded gravely, “Are there others? Did you manage to identify anyone else?”

Song Zhigang shook his head with a wry smile, “No, these people are too secretive, likely from some hidden sects. They collaborate with these major families to gather cultivation resources. I’ve heard that the current head of the Liu family’s wife is from one of these mysterious sects.”

“They’re hardly hidden if they’re out seeking alliances with families. But these guys must be strong. What is Wang Yannian up to, bringing so many heavy hitters? If it’s to target me, why bring such an overkill?”

“Exactly, I can’t figure it out either. If it were just about you, the Liu family probably wouldn’t have bothered, but now they’ve really brought out a significant number. It’s perplexing.”

“Old Song, once you’re back, try to dig a little deeper. If you can’t find anything, it’s okay; just keep a record of this. It seems these people aren’t here just for me.”

“Right, I know what to do.”

After Song Zhigang left, Su Lin furrowed his brows in thought. Wang Yannian wouldn’t summon such heavyweights just to deal with him; what then was his purpose? And where were these people now, that he hadn’t received any news of their movements?

“It looks like this isn’t straightforward. I might need to discuss this with Old Master Qin and Ziyu,” Su Lin concluded gravely.

Just as he was about to leave, another figure approached him. Bai Qikun addressed him, “The banquet has started; why aren’t you with your father?”

Su Lin looked at Bai Qikun and the accompanying Bai Lengshan: “Old Bai, you’ve come too. This isn’t usually your kind of event.”

Bai Qikun chuckled, “Who says I don’t attend such events? I go to such banquets almost every month in Beijing.”

Su Lin nodded, “Are you here to see my father?”

Shaking his head, Bai Qikun replied, “Not your father, I came for you.”

“For me? What’s the matter?”

With a grave expression, Bai Qikun disclosed, “Wang Yannian has brought three Human Immortals from Beijing to Donghai for you. Did you know about this?”

Scratching his head, Su Lin responded, “I just heard a bit about it, but not much.”

“Surprising you have sources in Beijing. Not bad,” Bai Qikun teased.

A bit exasperated, Su Lin replied, “Old Bai, can you just get to the point without keeping me on tenterhooks?”

Sighing, Bai Qikun admitted, “These people are here for you.”

“For me? How is that possible? I’m just a peak grandmaster. Why would they send three Human Immortals for me?”

“Exactly, they are here for you, specifically for your pills.”

Su Lin fell silent, realizing it was all because of the Seven Revolutions Resurrection Pill.

He had handed over the pill he had from Xiao Chen, a pill within the realm of cultivation with potent effects. Therefore, Wang Yannian probably didn’t tell those old men it was his pill but claimed it was Su Lin’s, prompting them to come from Beijing.

Or perhaps, when questioned by them, Wang Yannian saw an opportunity to use them as a means to strike at him. With Wang Yannian’s cunning, he could have concocted this plan in an instant.

Rubbing his temples, Su Lin muttered, “Doesn’t this put me in danger?”

The allure of the Seven Revolutions Resurrection Pill was immense; these old men likely had chronic injuries and could potentially live decades longer with the pill. Human nature was unpredictable; even if Su Lin gave them all his pills, they would greedily demand more and eventually resort to force.

“Why hasn’t Wang Yannian acted against me yet after returning to Donghai several days ago?” This was what Su Lin couldn’t understand.

“Now you know, Su Lin, you must take this seriously, or Donghai might face a major upheaval. I need stability, understand?”

Su Lin nodded, “I understand, Old Bai.”

“Good, you’re smart and should know how to handle this.”

After Bai Qikun left, as he said, he wasn’t here to enjoy the banquet but to relay a message to Su Lin.
