Supergirl Defender Of Love

Chapter 17: Tension, Texts, And Natasha’s Breaking Points

Kara woke to the soft warmth of sunlight filtering through her window, her body humming with power as the Marvel sun worked its daily magic. She stretched, her limbs flexing with casual strength that could level a building if she weren't careful. It was getting easier every day. Too easy. She was reaching that dangerous point where holding back was becoming second nature. If she sneezed too hard, she might accidentally vaporize someone.

But that wasn't today's problem. Today's problem was her phone buzzing for the third time that morning.

She reached over, grabbing it with a lazy smirk. Harry Osborn. Again.

Harry: "Morning, beautiful. Thought I'd check if you survived all the turkey. Thinking about that one-on-one tour yet? ;)"

Kara laughed under her breath, shaking her head. Harry was persistent. Dumb, but persistent. She appreciated the effort.

Kara: "Careful, Harry. Natasha might be watching. ;)"

She heard the sound of coffee being poured in the kitchen. Right on cue. Natasha. Always Natasha.

Stepping out of her room, Kara found the Black Widow stationed at the counter, dressed casually—if casual meant ready to kill a man at a moment's notice. Her tight black tank top and fitted jeans gave her that lethal edge that made her look like a supermodel with murder on her mind.

"You texted him again," Natasha said without looking up, her tone perfectly neutral.

Kara grinned. "Jealous?"

Natasha's jaw tightened slightly. "He's annoying."

"You read that over my shoulder, didn't you?"

"I don't need to read it. I know his type." Natasha took a slow sip of coffee. "He's a problem."

Kara rolled her eyes, amused but not taking it seriously. "Relax, dear. You'll scare him off."

"That's the idea."

Kara bit into an apple, enjoying the possessiveness radiating off Natasha like heat. She wasn't worried. Harry was harmless. Flirty, sure. But harmless. Besides, she liked the attention. She liked all the attention. Natasha hovering like a guard dog, Gwen's subtle but obsessive texting, even Wanda's lurking—though Wanda was more like a ghost haunting the edges of her life right now. Kara liked being desired. She liked being in control.

Another buzz.

Gwen: "Good morning! You looked so good last night. Wish we could've had more time just us. We should fix that soon. <3"

Attached was a selfie. Gwen, wearing an oversized sweater, her hair down, smile perfect. But Kara could see it—the hunger in her eyes, the possessive spark beneath the surface.

Venom's voice in Gwen's mind: "Harry is in the way. Weak. Remove him."

Gwen smiled sweetly at her phone, pretending she couldn't hear the symbiote's growl of agreement.

Kara replied with a simple: "You're adorable. Soon. ;)"

Natasha noticed the change in Kara's expression. She knew exactly who it was. Her lips thinned. "Let me guess. Gwen?"

Kara smirked. "Jealous of her too?"

Natasha didn't answer. She didn't need to. Her fingers drummed lightly on her mug—a habit Kara was starting to recognize. That was Natasha's "I'm thinking about eliminating someone" rhythm.

Later that day, Kara was lounging on the couch, scrolling her phone while Natasha worked on S.H.I.E.L.D. paperwork. Well, Kara assumed it was paperwork. Knowing Natasha, it could just as easily have been a kill list.

Another text from Harry popped up.

Harry: "Free this weekend? Thought maybe we could grab dinner. Just you and me. I know this great place. :)"

Kara smirked, shaking her head. He really was trying.

"You'd think he'd get the hint," Natasha muttered without looking up.

"You're watching my texts again?"

Natasha raised an eyebrow. "You're not exactly subtle."

Kara replied playfully.

Kara: "Careful, Harry. I think my bodyguard is plotting your disappearance."

Natasha's eyes flicked up. "I'm not plotting."

Kara raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

Natasha's tone dropped, cool and even. "I'm deciding."

There was a beat of silence. Kara laughed, but there was an edge to Natasha's voice that made her pause—just for a second.

"You're scary, you know that?"

"Security protocol."

Kara laughed again, shaking her head.

Fury's call came in later, right as Kara was contemplating whether or not it was too early for pizza.

Natasha answered it, stepping aside, but Kara could still hear her.

"Five agents haven't checked in," Fury said, voice low and irritated. "They were all assigned to the perimeter rotations around your girl."

"Men are unreliable," Natasha said smoothly.

Fury sighed. "You said that last week. You sure they're not buried somewhere?"

Natasha's eyes flicked to Kara's backyard, where the soil was still a little too fresh.

"No idea what you mean," Natasha said. "Thwy probably got drunk. You know men."

Fury grunted. "Find them. I want answers."

Natasha hung up, her face unreadable.

"Fury?" Kara asked from the couch.

"Nothing important," Natasha said, sitting down beside her.

"Men still unreliable?"

Natasha's lips curled. "They always are."

That evening, Kara was flipping through TV channels when her phone buzzed again.

Harry: "You're too amazing to be guarded all the time. I can keep a secret. ;)"

Kara snorted.

Natasha, sitting nearby, glanced at her. "Him again?"

"Yeah." Kara paused, then grinned. "You're really gonna shoot him, aren't you?"

Natasha didn't answer immediately. She leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees.

"I'll handle it."

Kara blinked. That was new. "You're not joking, are you?"

Natasha's smile was small. Sharp. "He's a problem."

Kara waved her off, still not taking it seriously. "Relax, honey. You can't shoot all my admirers."

Natasha's eyes darkened, but she forced a smile. "Watch me."

Later that night, Gwen lay in her room, staring at her phone. She scrolled through Kara's messages again, her heart racing every time she reread the simple "You're adorable."

She traced her finger over the screen like it was sacred.

Venom whispered again: "Harry. He is getting closer. He flirts. He is weak. We kill him."

Gwen licked her lips. "Soon."

Norman Osborn sat in his study, glass of whiskey trembling slightly in his hand. His reflection in the window seemed to sneer at him.

"You saw it, didn't you?" the Goblin whispered. "She's not normal. The blonde. She's power. You need power. Use her. Or destroy her."

Norman closed his eyes. He would need to be careful. Very careful.

Peter sat in his room, staring at his mask. Everything was unraveling. Norman was onto him. Kara knew something—he could feel it. Natasha terrified him. And Gwen… Gwen was different lately. Closer. Clingier. He was trapped in a web, and every strand led back to her.

Back to Kara.

Kara lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling. Her phone buzzed.

Harry: "Dinner? Saturday?"

Gwen: "Thinking of you. <3"

Kara smiled.

Marvel Earth was perfect. But what happens next will be even better because now Kara has mastered her new teleportation powers now she is working on the others. If her guess about her ability's are accurate then the women in Kara's like may end up powered up enough to destroy this universe. Kara could not wait to take Natasha and Perhaps Gwen back to see her cousin Clark he is in for a surprise.
