Chapter 319: Spirit Evolution II
The air trembled—subtly at first, then with a deep, ancient hum that echoed through the ground and air alike.
Dugu Yan floated just above the earth, her body bathed in green and silver radiance. The coiling aura behind her began to take form—solidifying from light into shape.
First, a serpentine tail—elegant and long—its scales etched with glowing ivy patterns that shimmered like polished jade.
Then came the limbs—slender yet strong, ending in crystalline claws that glowed with a venomous emerald light.
Massive, semi-transparent wings unfurled, lined with veins that pulsed with toxic energy. And at last, the head emerged—regal, serpentine, and crowned with curved dragon horns. Its golden-jade eyes burned with ancient knowledge, like a beast who had survived countless plagues.
Her martial spirit had evolved into the Jade Celestial Poison Dragon.
Not a beast of chaotic toxicity, but a refined sovereign—a creature of legend said to command ten thousand poisons. Not infinite. Not all. But ten thousand known forms of toxic essence—cataloged, controlled, and utterly mastered.
It hovered behind her like a guardian spirit, silent yet resounding in presence. It did not lash out. It did not need to.
Its mere existence carried the weight of lethal supremacy.
Dugu Bo staggered back slightly, eyes wide. "What… is this feeling?"
Even Dave was quiet for a moment longer than usual. His brows furrowed—not in fear, but in deep thought. And a hint of surprise.
"I'll admit," he said, his voice calm but edged with fascination, "this goes beyond what I predicted."
He stepped forward, eyes locked on Dugu Yan's new spirit. "The Jade Celestial Poison Dragon… a rare spirit of the highest tier. One not born from chaos, but from perfect symbiosis between beast and poison."
He paused, then spoke clearly.
"This spirit grants dominion over ten thousand poisons—not every poison that exists, but every major toxic essence known to spirit beastkind and human alchemists alike. The most potent venoms. The most elusive miasmas. The deadliest spiritual toxins."
Dugu Bo's face was pale with awe. "And she can control them all?"
"Not yet," Dave said, smirking faintly. "But she will."
"More importantly," he added, "she's not immune to every poison… just the ten thousand that her spirit governs. Which, to be fair, includes nearly everything known across the continent."
Dugu Yan slowly lowered, her feet brushing the ground as the dragon spirit shimmered and coiled behind her like a deity waiting for her command. Her emerald eyes blinked once, glancing at her grandfather—and for the first time, his aura bowed to hers.
The moment her feet touched the ground, the balance shifted.
A quiet pressure spread outward—subtle, but absolute. The kind of pressure that didn't demand obedience, but inspired it. The kind that came from lineage. From power. From something greater.
Dugu Yan's jade-green eyes gleamed softly, golden flecks dancing within. Her aura no longer carried the uncontrolled sting of poison—it radiated command. What had once been dangerous was now divine.
Her spirit hovered behind her—no longer a simple serpent spirit, but a draconic monarch robed in venom and grace.
Dugu Bo felt it in his bones.
His Jade Phosphor Serpent Martial Spirit, once feared and respected, now instinctively submitted. Not to his will—but to hers. As if some ancient law of bloodlines had suddenly awakened. As if her transformation had placed her above him in a hierarchy they both now understood.
His lips parted, voice faint. "Her aura… it's suppressing mine."
Dave stepped forward calmly, folding his arms.
"That's not disrespect," he said. "It's natural order."
He glanced between the two of them. "The moment her martial spirit evolved into the Jade Celestial Poison Dragon, she crossed a threshold. Not just in power, but in purity. This isn't a stronger version of your spirit—it's an evolved class of its own. A superior descendant, you could say."
Dugu Bo clenched and unclenched his fists, not in anger, but realization.
"A generation beyond…"
"Exactly," Dave said. "It's like comparing a poisonous snake to a divine dragon that chose poison as its domain. One survives by instinct. The other rules by right."
Dugu Bo's eyes softened as he looked at Dave, and then… he bowed his head deeply.
"I can't thank you enough for this," he said. "Before, I may have followed you out of helplessness. But now… I submit with sincerity. From this day forward, as long as your orders don't go against my morals, I will follow you without question."
Beside him, Dugu Yan bowed gracefully as well, her jade-green eyes calm but respectful. "Thank you, Young Master," she said gently.
Dave gave a casual shrug, brushing it off with a faint smirk. "No need to be so formal. You two are now under my protection. It's only natural."
Dugu Yan raised her head slowly, her voice softer now, but with a teasing glint. "Oh? So what you're saying is… I belong to you now?"
Dave glanced at her, eyes drifting for a moment over her graceful form. She was beautiful—undeniably so. Strong, confident, and proud.
"If you want to," he replied smoothly. "You can also be my woman. But Meilin's already my fiancée—so as long as she's fine with it, I don't mind making you my second."
He looked toward Meilin, who stood quietly to the side, watching everything unfold with an unreadable smile.
Meilin gave a small, amused nod. "I don't mind. As long as she understands her place… and doesn't try to steal the first seat."
Dugu Yan blinked, then laughed lightly. "In that case… I accept. I don't care about rank—I care about the man. And if that man is you… then I'll stand by your side."
Dugu Bo simply nodded, eyes calm but filled with quiet gratitude. He didn't protest. He didn't question.
If his granddaughter found joy, strength, and purpose with someone like Dave… then as her grandfather, what more could he ask for?
He'd gained not just salvation today—but hope for their family's future.
"Welcome to the family, Sister Yan," Meilin said with a small smile, stepping forward and offering her hand.
Dugu Yan returned the gesture with a graceful nod. "Thank you for accepting me."
Meilin chuckled softly. "It's okay. I know I can't monopolize Dave all to myself."
