Chapter 1306: Standoff
Seeing Lin Chen walking toward the bus, Xu Wei's face suddenly changed.
He never dreamed that his recent sly smile would end up trapping Ajie.
Actually, Lin Chen had been observing Xu Wei's expression all along; his moment of pride was when Ajie appeared.
Lin Chen endured acting along with Xu Wei to wait for the moment he showed a flaw.
"Consultant Lin, we've already checked this bus, and there's no problem," a police officer said with confusion.
"Is that so? Let me get on and take a look," Lin Chen nodded and boarded the bus.
Lin Chen entered the bus, which was already filled with people, and his gaze swept toward the rear where he immediately noticed the elderly man wearing sunglasses.
"Everyone, I'm the leader of this operation. We stopped this bus for suspect apprehension. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused." With a smile, Lin Chen spoke as he moved forward.
Suddenly, Lin Chen lunged at the elderly man in sunglasses.
Unfortunately, Lin Chen was half a step too slow. Ajie's eyes narrowed, and he grabbed the girl next to him.
"Don't move, or I'll kill her," Ajie shouted angrily.
Lin Chen halted, an icy look flashing in his eyes.
"You can't escape, let go of the girl," Lin Chen said coldly.
Seeing the suspect inside the bus, the passengers rushed out in panic, leaving only Lin Chen, Ajie, and the hostage inside.
Ajie sneered, "Get me a car, and fill up the tank!"
Lin Chen took a few steps back, "Alright, I can arrange that for you."
Speaking, Lin Chen exited the bus and instructed a policeman, "Prepare a car for him."
The police officers now admired Lin Chen profoundly.
They had thoroughly inspected this bus and found nothing, yet Lin Chen discovered the suspect as soon as he boarded.
Ajie, holding the hostage inside the bus, was very clever, hiding entirely inside the compartment, invisible to snipers outside.
While he could see what was happening outside.
The hostage, seized by Ajie, was highly agitated, her entire body trembling.
"Don't worry, as long as you cooperate, I won't kill you," Ajie said coldly.
Looking at the surrounding police, Ajie took a deep breath.
For some reason, instead of feeling fear, he felt a trace of excitement.
This scene he had experienced countless times before, but then he was the Hunter outside.
He joined the elite Wolf Fang unit of China with top military scores.
After joining the unit, he excelled in all aspects, even representing China at the World Military Competition, where he earned the top spot.
Back then, he was ambitious, a hero in people's eyes, the pride of Wolf Fang.
But, a mission led to him being captured due to arrogance and severe injury.
He never succumbed to enemy torture, never feared death, yet his heart was captured by a woman.
Since then, he vanished from people's sight, with only the military assuming he was dead, reborn as a man named Ajie.
In truth, the old self had indeed died.
Now Ajie would do anything for that woman, even die.
Although knowing her ambition was vast, as long as she was happy, he'd do anything for her.
Over the years, he killed countless people, even former comrades, all for her.
Sadly, despite everything, she never loved him.
So, with a resentful heart, Ajie sought greater strength.
Enduring hardship and employing unconventional methods, he became stronger.
Yet, the woman he loved grew more distant.
Now, the former Hunter became others' prey, a fugitive.
Reaching this fate, he regretted nothing; from loving her, he forsook everything.
Military honor, masculine dignity, striving for her acknowledgment.
This time, he volunteered for Western City to prove himself.
Yet, his opponent became Lin Chen.
Confident in his flawless plans, he underestimated Lin Chen's might.
Upon Lin Chen obtaining the video, Ajie felt unease.
Choosing to flee, but a step late, cornered by Lin Chen here.
Still, Ajie wouldn't give up, determined to escape.
No matter the chaos, no matter the bloodshed, he'd leave for the woman he held dear.
A glance at her, a death in her arms—he was willing.
Without Lin Chen, he'd charge, killing without hesitation.
But Lin Chen gave an overwhelming sense of danger.
Ajie knew he was no match for the young man, hence resorted to hostage-taking.
Lin Chen stared at Ajie inside the bus, his brow furrowed tightly.
"Consultant Lin, our snipers are in position, but this guy's too sly, poor shot angles; we can only gamble," a military officer told Lin Chen.
"Forget it, you can't hit him. Even if you do, he'd kill the hostage simultaneously," Lin Chen dismissed the idea.
Ajie's voice echoed from the bus, "Lin Chen, in my life I admire only two people; you're one of them."
Lin Chen snorted coldly, "Boy, be a man and step out, let's fight it out; win and I'll let you go."
Ajie ignored Lin Chen's taunt, sneering, "Don't bother provoking me; I won't fall for it. I admit my skills pale compared to yours, but with a hostage in hand, any action from you, and I could easily kill them."
Lin Chen's eyes narrowed; the hostage trembled violently, aided by his perceptive eyes, Lin Chen saw they'd wet themselves from fear.
Yet seeing Ajie's state, Lin Chen inhaled deeply.
Despite being cornered, Ajie remained clear-headed.
Lin Chen realized Ajie was indeed a formidable adversary.
"Ajie, release the hostage, and I'll let you go," Lin Chen said, resigned.
Ajie snorted coldly, "Release the hostage? Am I dumb? Without them, won't you immediately swarm me?"
Lin Chen frowned, "If you release the hostage, I'll willingly become your hostage."
Ajie laughed coldly, "You as a hostage? Forget it, I wouldn't dare. Enough talk; is my car ready?"
Ajie had a plan: once with a car, he'd travel along the expressway toward the mountains. Once in the mountains, he'd be like a fish in the ocean, impossible to catch.
