Chapter 499: Completing the Prototype
Once he returned, Vivian and the others had managed to create the first prototype, which Nathan immediately imbued with the Soul Contract.
Nathan and the others were sitting on the ground as Ryan Reeves was setting up the device.
Ryan raised his hand, signaling that they were ready.
Nathan and the others immediately focused on the device as Ryan pulled out the rod, letting the string propel the small sphere into the sky.
The small sphere flew at a fast speed and gradually slowed down as it approached the cloud.
As a result, it reached the speed where it wouldn't pass the cloud as the Soul Contract was activated.
The burst of ena coupled with the wind element created a burst that pushed the ash cloud away, creating a massive hole in the sky.
The bright and warm sunlight sneaked into the ground from that opening, letting all the people in the area see the sunlight that had never appeared in the last 12 hours.
It illuminated a certain area with the angle, which was something they had to consider, but it wasn't that big of a problem.
Melissa squinted her eyes. After that sphere released the burst, it started going down. When it wasn't that far away from the ground, it suddenly deployed a parachute. It wasn't big but enough to slow down the fall a lot, allowing the ball to touch the ground quickly but gently.
Without hesitation, Melissa leaped toward that ball and examined it right away.
"There is a small scratch. I guess we need to make the parachute slightly bigger. However, the core itself is not damaged." Melissa pressed a button, ejecting the three small storages that previously contained the ena. "They're fine. It can be recharged and used again. Everything looks good for now. Just a small adjustment needed."
Vivian, on the other hand, examined the hole itself. "The speed of the hole recovering has slowed down a lot. At this rate, it shouldn't affect us much tomorrow. Enjoy exclusive chapters from empire
"The hole size is enough, but the angle of the sun has to be calculated to create a field. However, this is not hard to do. Once the fields are created, you can literally use it again and again without any adjustments after that."
Ryan waved his hand. "Everything looks good for the shooting device. There are some adjustments needed for the speed and durability, but we should be able to perfect it in a single day."
Nathan nodded his head, fully satisfied. The progress of this cloud-repelling device was smooth. There were a lot of blacksmiths ready for mass production, so they only had to wait a bit more.
"How many devices can we produce in a single day?" Nathan asked.
Ryan thought for a moment. "Let's see. At this rate, we should have no problem creating 30 of them every day with our current manpower."
"Can you focus on the spheres first?"
Ryan nodded. "It shouldn't be a problem. Since we succeed much faster than we originally expected, we still have some time."
"That's great." Nathan thought for a moment. "That's right. How about the magic weapons?"
"The magic weapons are already starting to be produced. You should ask the fairy queen about this. However, from what I've heard, they will send out every hundred magic weapons produced.
"At this stage, they should have no problem producing a single batch every day. The hardest part itself is the charging and the so-called storage.
"Besides, we will need a massive amount of cores if we want to process this. Fortunately, the cores disappear when all the ena has been sucked out, like how it melts in our mouth, so we don't have to worry about throwing the empty cores somewhere."
Nathan nodded in understanding. "I see. In that case, please focus on the spheres first."
"Sure."
Nathan planned to leave soon, so he had no other choice but to be a bit selfish and get the spheres.
"Master. How many devices do we need right now?"
"Let's see. If we want to light up all the cities, we need more than 1200 cities. That's too much.
"However, if we shrink that number, 200 should be enough for the initial phase. After all, the speed of the food being produced will increase a lot.
"Besides, we need to save some devices in case they end up failing or destroyed."
Nathan nodded. "200, huh? That should be good enough. I will just make 300 spheres for the time being."
"Yeah. That should be enough. You're planning to leave, right?"
"Yep. It won't be long. Maybe for two weeks?"
Vivian assured him. "Don't worry about us. How many people are you going to bring this time? It's not like you're going to bring only Selena and the others, right? How about bringing Noelle and Flora with you?"
"Hmm. I don't mind Noelle, but Flora? She is occupied with the school."
"I think it's going to be fine. Leyfon is not someone who is going to abandon the academy. I bet that he will be back in less than a week. You just have to wait until then."
"Is that so?" Nathan thought for a moment. He had thought about this. Sullivan was probably going to raise the requirement because of the current situation. However, he thought about increasing their number to raise the chance for their success.
In other words, Nathan, Selena, Sera, and Alavenya might not be enough. If he added Noelle and Flora into the mission, he might be able to persuade Sullivan, especially if all six of them were capable of taking down a warrior class alien.
That was why having them get stronger together with him might not be a bad idea.
Besides, there was something he was curious about. If there were indeed human civilizations across the sea, the way they utilized their familiars might be different from them. If he could somehow bring their knowledge and technology, they might be able to create something even more amazing to resist the aliens.
Before he could raise that idea, Noelle was rushing toward him while shouting, "Nathan. An urgent message from Flora."
