Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 1162: Suspicion

"So, this is the capital city…" Nathan muttered. He looked around. As one would expect due to the disaster, the city's atmosphere was dark.

People looked lifeless because they didn't have a lot of things to do. The kids couldn't play outside, and the adults could only wait for food distribution.

However, unlike the marquis' city, there were still a lot of movements around. As expected from the biggest city in the dynasty. Despite the situation, merchants were still going back and forth.

The city's buildings were mainly made of stone, but unlike the ones in the marquis' territory, the buildings here were much bigger and taller.

The reason Nathan was looking around was to secretly summon Jinwu and let him scout the area.

The marquis first dropped them at an inn so that they could prepare while he reported their arrival to the emperor.

During this time, Nathan took his time to stroll around the city with Evelyn.

"Looks like the city is much livelier, even though it doesn't change the fact that it's still dark outside." Evelyn examined the people. "Still, it can't be compared to what I see from the Azilia Kingdom's capital city."

"That's true. Then again, the Azilia Kingdom has never suffered this much since they got the cloud-repelling device quickly."

"Fair enough." Evelyn nodded in agreement. "They're not planning to do anything to us, right?"

"Do you sense anything?"

"No."

"Then, there are two possibilities. Because we use teleportation to cover the distance, they might not have enough time to make preparations. Or they might simply not plan to do anything excessive.

"If the marquis decides to make us wait, we need to be vigilant."

"I see." Evelyn paused. "What if we have to leave the dynasty for one reason or another?"

"I don't really care even if I have to make both the dynasty and the empire my enemy. In the end, we can always return home when it's all done."

"That's true." She nodded. "Still, it's best to be careful. I never thought that the Death Society was this big."

"Me too. But our course of action doesn't change." Nathan shook his head.

"Still, how are we able to defeat them? Although half of them have died, they are still much stronger than our group. Even if we combine our power, I don't think it's enough.

"Let's see… Even if all our arcane level summoners surround a world class summoner, it will still be one summoner. If you include me, it will only be two. What if they hide after we strike?"

"For the specific plan, I will have to wait until we get further information from this person." Nathan shook his head helplessly. "Are you disappointed that you can't kill all of them?"

"I will be lying if I say I'm not disappointed. I personally want to kill that guy with sharp teeth. That psychopath needs to die, but if he is one of the people who have been killed, I don't have any other choice but to let go.

"The same can't be said for the others. Bella and I don't have much hatred because our targets have never managed to kill us or the people close to us. However, Evelyn and Melissa suffered the most.

"Evelyn lost her familiar, guardian, and parent, while Melissa lost her world. Even Bella mentioned how disappointed she was after learning about that."

"Well, it can't be helped." Nathan shook his head helplessly. "As much as I want to help, this is the limit. Still, to think that these guys came to Gratzel because they were driven away from their own hometown…"

"I know, right? It was too ridiculous." Evelyn agreed. If they hadn't been driven away, the Bloody Banquet would never have happened. But the problem would still remain on this continent.

"Still, something is weird." Nathan frowned.

"What's wrong? Are you talking about their weird ability? It should be the way we use our power, no?"

"No, not that." Nathan crossed his arms. "I'm thinking about our enemy's information. I won't say that mentally deranged individuals don't exist. They do exist, and their numbers are not necessarily low.

"However, what are the odds of those people being able to reach this level?"

"!!!" Evelyn paused for a moment. Now that she thought about it, their power level was weird.

Each of these individuals acted like psychopaths during the bloody banquet. How could a large number of that type of people have managed to reach this stage and threaten the world?

"Do you mean there's something giving them strength?"

"There's a possibility. It might be something like the Divine Hand. The alien in charge of this continent might be using them to find me or something." Nathan nodded. "However, this is just speculation, so it might not be true."

Evelyn's expression turned grim. It seemed that their subjugation wouldn't be as smooth as he originally thought.

If the alien was truly the one arranging everything, Evelyn wondered if she could trust this alien. After all, the alien was supposed to be the guide that would lead them to the alien world once they grew strong enough.

It would be better to report it to Cthulhu if this alien was someone they couldn't trust. Or they might have to go to another continent and grab the last alien on the other continent before heading back to Gratzel.

"Depending on the situation, I will change my plan. For now, we will have no choice but to eliminate them one by one. After all, we don't have enough strength for a head-on fight, unlike the Divine Hand." Nathan sighed.

"Sure."

It looked like Nathan had considered everything, so Evelyn dropped her worries, believing Nathan would take care of the rest. Evelyn decided to focus on their defense instead.

Since this was the capital city, Evelyn had to go around the city and create several teleportation circles for their escape.

Finally, the night had arrived. The marquis returned and brought the good news.

"Let's head to the imperial palace tonight. His Majesty has summoned both of you. It will be an unofficial meeting, and the imperial palace is a secret. So, keep that in mind."
