Summoned to a Fantasy World With a Modern Military System

Chapter 46: Built By A Capitalist

"I have to admit I had underestimated you quite a lot," Eunice said to Allen as the three of them walked toward their military outpost.

"Well, it wasn't much. I was just trying to help in whatever way I can," Allen replied.

"Oh come on, don't do that. There's a limit to how much humility you can show, after a certain point it has the opposite effect. You went up against a highlander and won, that isn't a thing most people are capable of doing," Eunice rebuked.

"Are they really that much of a thing? Those highlanders, I mean?" Allen asked, trying to inquire about the highlanders as he did not really have any idea about what exactly they were.

As he asked that question, Eunice looked at him with a look that could be interpreted as saying 'Are you fucking kidding me?'

"Wait, don't tell me you don't know about highlanders?" she asked.

Fuck. Allen thought to himself. I kind of do want to ask her about them but it seems like knowing about highlanders is supposed to be a thing that comes with common sense.

Of course it's weird when I'm asking what they are. Then again, I have to go through this if I want information about them.

After thinking over it quickly, Allen decided that the risk was worth taking and decided to go along with the story he had set up till now for himself.

"Well, my country doesn't have these highlanders so…" he said, trying to be as casual as possible about it.

The look on Eunice's face was of utter disbelief, it was to the point that for a while she forgot all the pain from her injuries. Hearing this Luna also joined in, being in the same disbelief as Eunice.

"You don't have highlanders there? That's not possible," Luna said.

"Highlanders are the ones who govern all the countries in this world, I haven't heard of any country that is free of them aside from our Luminara. And that is only because we are resisting them," she explained.

"Hmm, I don't know what I can say about that to be honest. What I've told you is the truth, the country I come from isn't governed by these highlanders but by normal humans," Allen said, explaining his side of the story as if it was the most obvious thing ever.

His expression was perfectly normal. It had not taken him too much to fully get into character and live the story he was telling.

"Perhaps you haven't heard about it because as I've said, my country is across the ocean. So maybe there hasn't been much contact between the two lands," Allen suggested, hinting at a possible explanation.

"That can be true…" Luna said, trying to understand his approach but still not being able to quite come to terms with it.

After all, this was the first time she was hearing about something like this. It was too wild for her.

A country that was not under the control of highlanders but rather humans? That was something which completely defied the reality she had been living in.

"Well, if this is true then it changes a lot of things," Eunice said, thinking about the possibility this could open for them.

"Allen, would you be okay to talk about this a little more once we reach the camp and meet up with Lishia?" Eunice asked.

"I don't see a problem in that," he replied without any hesitation.

"Thank you," Eunice said.

"It's fine. In return, would you be okay sharing information about these highlanders? I'll be honest I practically have no idea what they are," Allen proposed.

"Sure," Eunice replied. Then a second later, she patted him on the back with slight force.

"Seems like you ended up saving my little sister's life again huh," she said in a playful tone. "I may be wrong but it sure seems like someone's deliberately getting into troublesome situations~"

"Oh come on stop that! It's not at all like that!" Luna said, slightly embarrassed by Eunice's words. "That highlander was just super strong, nothing I can do about that!"

"Yeah yeah, sure," Eunice replied sarcastically, teasing her more.

"Eunice!!"

"A-Ah, careful, you'll break your fragile sister," Eunice said when Luna jumped on her back, hanging by putting her arms around her neck.

Not paying too much attention to the quarrel of the sisters, Allen was again lost in his mental thoughts.

It seems like I would have to cook up more stories about this hypothetical country of mine, but well I'm also getting information in exchange so it's fine I guess.

Heck if things go right this may be more beneficial to me than my original plan which went into shambles.

As he was thinking about it, a notification popped up on the screen before his eyes that was continuously showing the feed from the drone.

[Alert: 5% battery remaining. Please recall the drone.]

It was highlighted with a red colour, and this was the third time the system was asking Allen to recall the drone.

Even after the highlander in the silver armor had disappeared Allen had still decided to keep the drone in the area and keep surveying the area from above just to be on the safer side of things.

Although it seemed like he was reaching the limit now.

Sigh. Fine, recall it. He instructed, and soon the feed from the drone stopped as it disappeared from the sky and went back into the system's inventory.

Now then, show me the armory. He said, and the system abided.

[>----ARMORY----<]

I see. If I'm not wrong that M4 Carbine is a 5.56mm right?

[That is correct.]

So what about the bullets? Would I have to buy 5.56mm bullets as well as 9mm ones or is there something where I can just buy "bullets" in general?

[You would need to buy the 5.56mm bullets separately from the 9mm bullets. They are now available in the store and can be purchased through CP.]

Sigh. This thing was definitely built by a capitalist.
