Chapter 142: Forbidden Edge

But Doro was too fast. He weaved left, then right, his body slipping past each strike with precise, fluid movements. The whip struck the ground, shattering stone, but he was already gone before each impact.

He was moving like a shadow—darting from side to side, closing in.

The crowd erupted, voices booming across the arena.

"Unbelievable! He's dodging every strike!"

"Look at his speed—Cora can't keep up!"

Cora's confident smirk was gone. For the first time in the battle, she looked shaken.

And Doro, his fangs bared in a determined snarl, was only getting closer.

"What's going on? I thought I had the opponent. But why…? It feels like I'm going to lose. No, this is bad for me." Doro's thoughts raced. "Should I increase the whip strike? See, this is the extent of my full limit. Coruscate. Yes, this is it. Limit Breaker." He roared as he poured everything into his body. Physical Enhancement, times one hundred. For the first time he had broken his limit.

His claws lengthened, stretching out from his hand like living steel. Before anyone could react, he lunged toward Cora and drove a talon deep into her stomach. Blood spurted. He jumped back, panting. "Will that be enough to defeat her? Or do I need to slash her more?" Doro wondered, fists clenched, watching her fall.

Cora's face twisted in agony. She stared at the blood on her palm, and—slowly—she smiled. She brought her lips to the wound and licked the blood. "So this is what you call your limit," she murmured. "I'm going to teach you what Limit Breaker really is. Coruscate."

At once the blood on her stomach began to flow back, knitting itself into flesh. The wound closed as if time had reversed. Doro's jaw dropped. "How did she just do that? I thought I pierced her." He moved forward, determined to pierce her again, but she met him with a sudden punch that stopped him dead. He staggered, trying to force his claw deeper, but his collarbone could not find purchase.

Doro lashed out with his fingers to scratch her face, but her skin did not yield. She answered with a brutal kick to his injured leg. The pain made him roar. As he reared, Cora's whip flashed; it cracked against his wrist and, in an instant, his wrist came away, clattering onto the ground. He screamed and stumbled back, clutching at the stump where his hand had been.

The crowd watched, stunned, as the tide of battle turned. Doro's Limit Breaker had smashed through Cora's defenses, but her forbidden healing and deadly counterattacks had turned what looked like victory into catastrophe. Cora stood poised, whip coiling like a living thing, while Doro reeled from the loss of his hand and the shock of a fight suddenly slipping from his control.

"I am going to tell you I have actually reached a point that is called Immortal. After reading a certain book, I found a way: when my monsters consume human flesh, it actually gives me the years of their life. Even if you survive within a year, you are going to die because you are finished. You will watch me prepare yourself for death," Cora said.

"What's happening? What the hell is going on? Disgusting. What is she?" Doro thought, horrified. Cora smiled as she chopped his hand off and ordered her wolf to eat it. The crowd recoiled in disgust. "No, no, we don't like this. What the hell?" they shouted.

"Please, you all be quiet. As long as he doesn't give up, you don't have a say in this," the emissary demanded, trying to restore order. The spectators quieted, though unease thrummed through the stands.

"It's my hand how am I going to" Doro tried to say, but his voice failed him. He could not speak. One of the wolves rushed forward and bit off his leg. The women in the crowd covered their eyes at the inhuman sight.

The emissary stepped forward and, using the wind compressor, called for the match to stop. "Do you want to stop?" he asked. Doro nodded. The fight was halted. But he had not verbally conceded he could not speak but the crowd had seen enough.

"I'm not done," Cora spat. Still, the decision stood. "Winner: Cora." Many in the audience looked at her with disgust as the wolf tore off the rest of Doro's limb. Two healers hurried in and carried him away. The wolf vanished. Cora clenched her fist, breathing hard. Even as the boos rained down, she walked away from the arena, furious. "I needed power. I'm strong why is that wrong?" she muttered, leaving the crowd to hiss "Boo" after the declared winner.

"Hey, don't you see that kind of magic? The magic she used… I don't understand what that was. How did all his blood come back?" someone in the grass whispered.

"Yeah, and not just that… she's a lady. Why is she that ruthless? I thought it was usually men who would slaughter that way, but she was smiling and could butcher him even though he didn't stand a chance anymore," another voice added.

"Yeah, but not just that… it's something strange. She touched his throat that very moment, and it was like he couldn't speak. He was trying to say he wanted to stop talking, but he just couldn't. It's like she took his voice away," someone else murmured.

"Hey, everyone, can I get your attention, please? I know what just happened, and you're all annoyed about that, but still—it's a match. And I just said he lost his voice. That's why I didn't know he was trying to surrender. But not just that, the king has said the tournament for now should be on pause and will resume next week. I know you guys wanted it, but it's the decision of the king," the emissary announced.

"Hey, why are they stopping the match? We were enjoying it. She only just made us feel disgusted.
