Chapter 106: The Golden Paladin vs. The Twin Warriors
The arena buzzed with anticipation as the next participants prepared. "Next up," the emissary announced, "we have Zing and Zion, who will be fighting together as a team."
A hush fell over the crowd as he continued, "Their opponent is none other than Zero, an S-Rank adventurer and a palace paladin. A knight whose reputation is unmatched—he has captured the fiercest bandits, led countless victories in wars for the Empire, and earned the title of Paladin Knight through feats that few can rival."
The audience murmured in awe. "Zero… wasn't he the one who ended the last war? They say he personally took down hundreds of soldiers himself!"
The emissary nodded, his voice booming across the coliseum. "Indeed. Today, Zero will demonstrate why he is one of the most formidable warriors alive."
From the back of the arena, Zing and Zion exchanged a glance, steeling themselves. Their opponent was no ordinary warrior; the tension in the air was electric.
Zero stepped into position, his armor gleaming under the sunlight, his calm, commanding presence radiating raw power. Every movement spoke of years of training and countless battles fought.
The crowd erupted into cheers, some in awe, some in disbelief. Even the nobles in the balcony leaned forward, eyes locked on the battlefield.
All three fighters two against one —Zero vs Zing, Zion—retreated to the back of the arena, waiting for the signal. The emissary raised his wind device once more. "Prepare yourselves, contestants. The next battle begins now."
"Step into the ring, Zing and Zion!" the emissary called, his voice echoing across the arena.
The gates slid open, and the twins stepped forward. Shirtless except for their trousers, they carried the same confident air from yesterday. The crowd murmured. "Isn't that the pair who were showing off yesterday?" someone whispered.
Tharion squinted, nodding. "Yeah, that's them. They're actually quite strong."
"Well, let's see what they can do," Nolan remarked calmly, observing from the stands. "If what they showed yesterday is their full strength, I think they might struggle. Fighters who've truly mastered their abilities usually reveal their power in moments like this."
Tharion shrugged. "You're right. I didn't expect so many fighters to be this strong. I'm genuinely impressed."
Nolan's eyes stayed fixed on the arena. "Indeed. Seeing fighters like this… it's remarkable."
The gates opened again, and a hush fell over the audience. "Zero, step forward," the emissary announced.
The legendary paladin knight of the Empire entered, his presence commanding. Clad in gleaming golden armor, his sword at the ready, Zero's face remained hidden beneath his helmet.
"Let's see if Zing and Zion, the united twins from a small village, can match our warrior, Zero," the emissary continued, his tone filled with anticipation.
Nolan leaned slightly forward. "No one has ever seen his face, except the king and the castle nobles. He always fights fully armored."
Tharion whistled softly. "Wow… that's impressive."
Nolan's gaze lingered on Zero's armor. "And that's not ordinary armor. It's reinforced with mithril—it's nearly indestructible."
Tharion nodded, eyes wide. "That's insane…"
Back in the arena, Zing and Zion squared off, facing Zero with determination. Zero raised his sword high, the golden gleam catching the sunlight, a silent promise of the skill it represented.
"May the fight begin!" the emissary declared.
The crowd held its breath as the tension thickened, waiting for the first move in this high-stakes battle.
Zing and Zion moved in perfect sync, their fists glowing with a vibrant blue energy as they readied themselves. Their hands were held behind their backs, a deliberate stance that signaled deadly precision as they advanced toward Zero.
Zero, clad in his golden armor, remained perfectly still, his sword steady at his side, his posture unshakable.
As the twins closed the distance, Zero made his move—swiftly swinging his sword toward them. In a blink, both Zing and Zion dodged, sliding past the arc of the blade with fluid agility.
Zero didn't shift his stance; he stayed rooted, like a mountain unmoved by the storm.
Zing shifted behind Zero, preparing a strike aimed at his back. But Zero anticipated it with uncanny precision. He pivoted, planting the tip of his sword just in time to block the incoming punch, then spun, his armored leg snapping upward in a powerful kick that connected squarely with Zing's head.
Zing hit the ground hard, the sound echoing through the arena. Yet, within a heartbeat, he recovered, springing back to his feet with determination blazing in his eyes. He didn't back down; he readied himself to continue the fight alongside Zion, standing firm in the face of Zero's overwhelming skill.
The crowd gasped, murmuring in awe. "He's… unmovable," one whispered. "But they're not giving up either…"
"Brother… what should we do? He's strong," Zing muttered, eyes narrowing as Zero's sword cut effortlessly through their attacks.
"Let's not use our special move yet," Zion replied. "For now, we keep punching him as hard as we can."
"Yeah… I underestimated his steady speed," Zing admitted. "With all that armor, we can't move as fast as we normally would. That's how he was able to hit me."
"I know. Let's go," Zion said firmly.
The twins lunged forward in perfect sync, fists glowing as they unleashed a barrage of punches. Zero's armor absorbed the impact, the vibrations rattling his sword in his grip, but he remained composed.
"Our attacks should break through… but why isn't it?" Zion muttered, frustration creeping into his voice.
"Doesn't matter," Zing said, determination flaring in his eyes. "We can't give him any opening to counterattack."
They continued their relentless assault, fists pounding against Zero's armor. He shifted, using his sword with precision to block each strike, deflecting them with almost casual ease.
These two warriors are strong, Zero thought, his calm demeanor unshaken. They're holding back, but they still fight with skill. I could end this anytime I wanted. But it would be rude not to let the crowd enjoy this. Not only that… that Nolan defeated Johnny, my friend, someone almost as strong as me. Nolan is extraordinary… I'll save my true techniques for someone of that caliber.
