Summer at the Campbell's

She stood at the door way trying to find the right time to enter the room. Was she supposed to be listening to all these??

It was way past her bedtime, but she didn't feel as sleepy as she felt on her way to their room.

Well, she wasn't too young to know the truth but she wasn't ready. Her father would never do such thing as cheat her mother and even birth a child outside their marriage.

Why was her aunty talking about it casually?

Giving up on finding the right time,she went back to her room.

It didn't matter, she liked her life here and she wasn't going to let the mistakes of adults get to her.

She sat in front of her vanity "Catherine Rugmam.... Catherine Campbell.." she shrugged " Catherine Campbell sounds better"

In a few months she, Noah and his friend were going off to college . Who cares about the truth anyways?

"Why did summer have to end so soon?" She looked at her window,it was raining heavily.

"Rosy and her family should be on the plane by now" She sighed.

She wanted them to spend the night but Kenneth had to go back early because his university was resuming.

She blushed, soon he would be her senior.

"Oh shit!...my bra!" She had hung her triple padded bra outside in her veranda. It would've taken forever to dry if she hung it in her bathroom.

She took a deep breath before opening the door.

"The rain really means business" She said ,about to go inside when her eyes caught someone running in the rain into their store house.

Was that a redheaded girl?....Rosy?!

Even if someone had poor eyesight,it was really hard to miss Rosaline's hair and it's peculiar color.

With that small build....it had to be her.

Catherine waited a while, contemplating whether she should enter the rain or not. Maybe she forgot something in the store house?

She glanced at the clock,it was 10:00pm that makes it an hour since the ran into the store house.

Something wasn't right.

Catherine took an umbrella and a flash light.

She made her way to the store house, she saw Rosaline running out.

"Rosy!..." She yelled and grabbed her arm.

Even though the rain was pouring on her, anyone would see that she was crying and her cloth was disheveled and torn.

"What hap-" Rosaline broke free and ran off.

Seeing that the light was still on the store house,she pushed forward. The door was ajar.

"I told you I'd get her." Nolan?....he was on a call with someone.

Who could the psychopath be talking to?...his friends maybe, he had friends?

"She was a virgin, it was hard to thrust in at first , I had to use my fingers to break the hymen shit"

Catherine's eyes widened with disgust.

This was her half brother?, he could never be.

Furious,she burst in and slapped the back of his head.

"You animal!"

He heaved a sigh and turned off his phone before facing her.

"What're you doing here?"

"You took her virtue like it was nothing, you're worse than a monster"

"I didn't beg her to give any virtue to-" She slapped him again.

"You make me sick. You're not worthy of the Campbell name. You're not worthy of life itself. They should've abandoned you to the slut that birthed you"

She pushed him and stepped on his groin.

He screamed.

"That hurt did it not?"

She left the store house still fuming, she had to tell someone,she couldn't tell their parents because she didn't want to embarrass Rosaline , she went to knock on Noah's door.

Noah was asleep but his friend wasn't, she told him everything that happened

"He's a demon"

"And you don't think we should tell the adults?"

"You've never met Rosy have you?"

"No, I haven't"

"She's the sweetest girl I've ever met and known. I wouldn't want her to carry the enigma alone. Noah doesn't care,it's not his first time having sex. But it's her first time, she shouldn't be critized for falling for the sweet tongue of a devil"

"Alright then, we'll talk to Nolan in the morning"

"Okay, goodnight"

She went back to her room a bit relaxed,then she heard a knock on her door.

"What do you want, Nolan?" She looked at him with contempt

"Keisha called me just now and said that Rosa wasn't back at the hotel yet"

"Oh dear, where could she have gone to?"

"I don't know but I think she would be at the spot she said she likes to be when she wants to let loose. I thought you might know where it is?"

The cliff?.

It was what she ,Rosy and Renee called it. It wasn't a mountain or a cliff but it was place you could see the whole of Grand view Heights ,maybe the whole of Franklin County or even as far as Columbus. It was just an irregular high sloped place in a flat land.

"I can go check the other place I know" Nolan added

Pushing her thoughts aside "Alright"

She wore her sweatpants and threw on her coar . She packed her hair up in a tight bun, she went to inform Shaan of where she was going, he offered to escort her to the gate and wait there till she got back and if she didn't within an hour he'd tell her parents.

Catherine eyes caught Nara standing by the door as if realizing that she had been seen, she quietly took a step backwards.

Thanking God that the rain had stopped ,it made it easier for her to get their spot on time.

"You got here faster than I thought" Nolan said

"What is...what are you doing?"

"I'm not worthy of the Campbell name?...That's rich coming from you, Rugman"

"Is it?....I'll have you know that you're also half a Rugman"

"Now you're just making things up"

"I was always wondering why you look like a malnutrited baby calf amongst the rest of us ,with your ugly hair that doesn't suit your hideous appearance....."

Thinking back to the time he had stabbed their pet dog for biting him when he tried to pet her, she laughed.

"Fluffy must've seen how evil you were,too bad she had to be born a dog "

He grabbed her neck.

She laughed"You can kill me now,it won't make you even an inch closer to being part of our family "

"True but it'll make you very far away from the family you hold dear to you" He let her go and hit her chest, she fell, she saw him watch her tumble with a smile on his face.

You left me behind with a demon for a brother, you're truly a wicked man.

Shaan checked his smartwatch, it had been 30minutes since she left. He saw Nolan coming from the direction of the "spot".

"Where's Cat?"

He burst out crying "She fell off the cliff I tried to grab her but i couldn't "

Shaan eyed the teenage boy in front of him like he wasn't just 2years older than him.

He's lying.

He probably didn't know that the cliff wasn't an actual cliff so if she fell ,he should still be able to just go down and help her up.

Shaan frowned and went to take his car keys.

"Don't say anything till I'm back"

He drove to the bottom of the slope , he parked then left the head light on. He didn't even have to look to far, he saw her sitting in a monk position in the field below the high slope.

"Penny for your thoughts?" He sat beside her.

"He tried to kill me"

"Bet he did, so?"

" You don't sound surprised"

"Because I'm not...Noah's told me alot about his evil brother. I'm just happy I get to see him in action"

"Aren't you just 19?"

"Yeah?... what's that got to do with anything?"

"Nothing,take me home"

"Just like that....we can make this fun and let him think he won."

"Then what?"

"I'll handle the rest"

"I'm not interested "

"This is a murder case but due to his miscalculation it became an attempted murder, what will you do if he calculates correctly next time he attempts and actually succeeds?"

He was right.

"What do I have to do?"

"Stay dead"
