Suits: A Lawyer Surviving TV Chaos

Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Caroline's Father

After spending a weekend of eating and waiting to die, Martin finally adapted to the somewhat cold New York.

On Monday morning, besides wearing an expensive suit, he also added a thin overcoat. From behind, he bore some resemblance to those handsome Italian mob hitmen.

As soon as he arrived at the firm, Martin heard a new piece of gossip.

Harlen Wyatt's pocket satellite phone patent had been officially acquired by Rapid Data Company for $400 million!

Martin shook his head enviously.

Although Harvey was sometimes emotional, but his abilities were unquestionable!

Just after arriving at the office, Rachel walked in with two cups of coffee, low on sugar and milk. "Martin, Ms. Caroline Channing is here. I thought you wouldn't refuse to let her into the office."

"Caroline?"

Martin was taken aback. "Is today the day she comes to deliver cakes to the firm?"

Rachel gave an affirmative gesture.

Soon, Caroline appeared at the office door—blonde hair, brown eyes, tall and slender.

"Caroline, I'm glad to see you here. I didn't expect you to appear in Manhattan again."

Martin didn't avoid any suspicion and directly hugged Caroline warmly, lightly pecking her lips. "Is it because you missed me, or because you've moved on from the past and are welcoming the future?"

"Things won't pass so quickly, Martin!"

Caroline looked around this large office with some nostalgia and then smiled. "You don't know how much courage it took for me to get on the subway to Upper East Side today."

"For others, it's just a normal trip, but for you, it's a big step towards a new life!"

Martin shamelessly altered Armstrong's famous quote upon stepping onto the moon.

Caroline made a helpless expression. "I just hope Max can sleep one more hour."

The two sat down on the sofa.

Martin picked up his coffee and took a sip. "Actually, I suggested that Max quit her nanny job, but she always thinks I'm a bad capitalist who exploits her."

"Don't blame her, Martin. For people like her and me now, we have no ability to withstand risks. It's really hard to make a decision to change."

For the rich and the poor, the meaning of entrepreneurship is completely different.

For the wealthy, entrepreneurship is no different from venture capital. Even failing ten times in a row won't significantly affect the entrepreneur's financial situation. As long as they succeed once, not only will they cover all the costs of previous failures, but their wealth will grow rapidly like a snowball!

However, the poor cannot afford such trial and error. A single failure might prevent them from ever getting back on their feet.

Since the last in-depth conversation with Max, Caroline finally understood her current situation.

Martin pursed his lips and smiled. "I don't blame her, and I'm glad you seem more mature. Being cautious is a good thing for you right now."

After chatting about the cake business for a while, Martin noticed that Caroline gradually became hesitant, as if she had something difficult to say.

"Caroline, if there's something you want to say, you can tell me directly. Even if you've found a boyfriend and want to end our intimate relationship, it's okay."

"Although I might be sad for a few days, we'll still be good friends."

Caroline quickly shook her head. "No, it's not that."

She then cautiously probed, "It's you, right?"

"Me?"

Martin pointed at himself in confusion, shaking his head to indicate he didn't understand what she meant.

Caroline hesitated and said, "Last weekend, I visited my father in prison. He said that someone who didn't reveal their identity asked the guards to take better care of him."

"That person is you, right?"

"Otherwise, I can't think of anyone else who would help me and my father now."

Martin immediately realized.

After resolving Amanda's case last time, Amanda was transferred from the Long Island prison, which housed serious offenders, to the relatively better conditions of Stanny Prison.

Martin, as her lawyer, participated throughout the transfer process and incidentally helped Amanda with her litigation loan-related matters.

During this period, he unexpectedly discovered that Caroline's father, Martin Channing—the organizer of the largest Ponzi scheme in global history—was temporarily detained there.

Once elegant and debonair, he had become somewhat despondent, quietly awaiting his court trial in a few months.

By that time, hundreds of top tycoons and the world's best legal team would subject him to comprehensive mental torment under the watchful eyes of global media!

Martin felt some concern, because he was the father of his friend .

Before leaving, Martin met with the warden of Stanny Prison, requesting that the prison treat Amanda a bit better, casually mentioning Mr. Channing as well.

At least ensure he wasn't violated in prison.

This wasn't illegal; the warden didn't refuse and instead took the opportunity to establish a good personal relationship with Martin Scott, a young and promising lawyer.

Networking slowly forms through mutual needs.

Martin simply did a favor, and to avoid trouble, he asked the warden not to mention that he had made the request to Mr. Channing.

He hadn't expected him to find out.

It seemed that the dark and burly warden took his request very seriously.

Martin came back to his senses and saw Caroline looking at him with both nervousness and anticipation. He could only smile bitterly and shake his head.

"Previously, another client of mine was serving time at Stanny. When I went there to handle affairs, I learned that your father was there too, so I casually mentioned it to the prison staff."

"I'm sorry, given our firm's position, there's not much I can do to help your father."

Caroline was almost moved to tears. "You've already done everything you could, Martin!"

"You helped me find work to support myself, and you provided a new oven and stable contracts for Max and my cake business. Now you're helping my father."

"Even though he deceived everyone in the world, he's still the father who loves me."

"I don't know what to say... I owe you so much."

Unfortunately, to prevent possible sexual harassment, all offices were designed with fully transparent glass partitions. Otherwise, given Caroline's overly excited emotions, the two might have ended up on the large office desk, two meters long and one meter wide.

"Don't say that. You don't owe me anything."

Martin handed her a tissue. "You've reached where you are today through your own strength and courage. I admire and respect that and am willing to keep supporting you."

"Don't forget, I'm still your legal advisor, counting on the advisory fees to pay off my Porsche 911 monthly installments."

Caroline instantly burst into laughter through her tears. "Then you'd better pray that your colleagues won't get tired of the taste of cupcakes. Eating them every day can get boring."

"That's why I ordered 150 each day."

Martin pointed to the office door. "The firm has more than 700 people. 150 cakes are far from enough, ensuring they always feel fresh and desire more. Your supply contract will continue indefinitely."

"According to your business school terminology, this is called hunger marketing."

A hint of admiration appeared in Caroline's eyes. "Martin, you should go to Wharton! You're a business genius!"

Martin shrugged indifferently. "Obviously, Harvard's law and history professors wouldn't agree with that view."
