Suits: A Lawyer Surviving TV Chaos

Chapter 43: Chapter 43: The Emotions of Lawyers

After arriving in this world where TV dramas and reality intertwine, Martin had been struggling with how to face the characters from the plot.

At first, he chose to remain a detached observer, neither interfering with the development of the story nor taking any proactive actions.

However, when he learned that George Cooper, Sheldon's father who had taught him football, passed away from a heart attack, Martin felt extremely guilty!

He knew George would die young but couldn't remember exactly when! He also couldn't follow him around 24/7.

Looking at Sheldon, who had just returned from Europe for the funeral, his face filled with the same pain and helplessness as Mary and Missy, Martin felt an overwhelming sense of guilt, tormenting him like burning flames!

From then on, he began trying to change the storyline.

First, Martin used the small amounts of money he had earned over the years to fund Sheldon's older brother, George Jr., to open a tire shop, allowing George Jr. to stay in Texas to take care of Mary and Missy, who was still in high school.

Then, he took Sheldon to an interview at Columbia University in New York. Because he knew that he would only stay in New York in the future, making it more convenient to help Sheldon.

It was repayment for the one-third share of Lone Star Beer that George secretly shared with him after high school. But, unexpectedly, two months later, Leonard appeared with a silly grin.

The storyline god knows how had returned to its original track.

Later, Martin met Carolyn and Max. Investing in Max and helping her

was another attempt by Martin to change the storyline.

He hoped to give this optimistic girl, who came from darkness but aspired for light, a chance.

So far, things seemed fine, but who knew if the will of this world would pull the storyline back to its original position?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Early the next morning, Martin brought 150 cupcakes, rode in the Lincoln car back to his apartment to change clothes, and then went to work at the firm.
Unexpectedly, not long after arriving at the office, Harvey Specter showed up.
Harvey actually found out so quickly after Martin introduced Steve to another senior partner, Louis Litt, last night? wondered martin.
Seeing Rachel's teasing expression outside the glass door, Martin couldn't help but shake his head with a bitter smile.
Just a few days ago, he had pretended to be a prophet in front of her, saying that Harvey was a proud person who would never come to him for a client, but now he was proven wrong so soon.
To be honest, if working with Louis could still be somewhat acceptable, Martin would rather die than have any professional contact with Harvey!
This guy had a history of meddling in company management!
A month ago, after Harvey joined the firm, the founder of the first company he represented—McKernon Motors  which was famous for its f1 cars—died of a heart attack.
The board followed normal procedures and appointed a new CEO.
When Harvey met with this new CEO, he learned that the CEO planned to relocate its engine factory in Detroit overseas to reduce the company's operational and labor costs. This meant that more than 2,000 auto workers would immediately lose their jobs.
Harvey thought this was detrimental to McKernon Motors as its engine and quality was what made McKernon Motors the "McKernon Motors" , so he found various loopholes in the company's personnel appointment regulations , brought in a new owner for $250 million and successfully ousted the new CEO, replacing him with a technical director who didn't know much about management .
And this technical director came from that factory and definitely wouldn't consider relocation. So In the eyes of those 2,000 workers, Harvey was the righteous lawyer representing justice in legal dramas!
But Martin didn't think so.
If it were a time of steady economic growth and social stability, doing this wouldn't be a problem, and it might even align with political correctness.
But what about the financial crisis that was highly likely to break out next year?
In his previous life, Detroit became a ghost town during this storm! Relocating the factory overseas and getting rid of those auto workers who enjoyed high benefits was the only way for companies to survive.
And McKernon, an automotive company with all its industries domestically, facing high labor and operational costs, was destined to go bankrupt.
At that time, not only would the 2,000 auto workers in this factory still lose their jobs, but more than 10,000 other basic employees of McKinnon would also be forced to leave! If the new owner doesn't add more money into it, which no chance in hell was gonna happen in a financial crisis.
Affected by the broader environment, these people might not find new jobs and would be forced onto the streets due to inability to pay their mortgages.
Now, does anyone still think Harvey is a good lawyer? Some might say, Harvey isn't a time traveler; how could he predict events two years ahead?
Martin wasn't mocking or criticizing Harvey with his foreknowledge, but the way Harvey handled the matter itself violated the principles a lawyer should uphold.
A lawyer must never get emotionally attached with their clients! Because than they start behaving irrationally and lose the sight of broader picture
Now if instead of being so emotionally attached to it harvey would have paused and looked ate the overall conditons of market, he might not be able to predict financial crisis but he could definitely hear the rumors of something big coming .
But he was so attached to his first client or the company he helped grew that he lost eye from the ball in this situation.
This is one of the common flaw among protagonists in almost all legal dramas—they get too emotional for those who stood by their side!
Martin really wanted to see if Harvey could maintain his ever-calm and confident smile when he realized that his actions two years ago led to McKinnon Automotive's inability to withstand the financial crisis or worse ultimately resulting in bankruptcy and liquidation forcing over 10,000 basic employees onto the streets.
Some people often say, helping good people with lawsuits makes you a conscientious lawyer, while helping bad people or the rich makes you a black-hearted lawyer.
Is there such a clear distinction between right and wrong in the world?
