Chapter 37: Chapter 37: The Meaning of a Tie
"Leonard! You incredible beast~~~~~~"
A scream that couldn't be contained instantly startled Martin, who had just finished work and was dragging his suitcase to open the apartment door.
"What the hell?"Reacting instinctively, Martin placed his suitcase at the entrance and tiptoed through the living room, slowly approaching Leonard's room.
A flamboyant red tie hung proudly on the doorknob, seemingly announcing something.
From inside the room came continuous screams and roars that were somewhat inappropriate for young ears.
It was hard to imagine that the usually harmless Leonard could be so... wild in bed?
Martin smirked: "Could it be Penny? No, Penny's voice would have been more pleasant."
Just then, light footsteps sounded behind him. Martin turned around to see Penny and Sheldon entering. Seeing the two of them about to excitedly call him out , Martin quickly raised his index finger to his lips: "Sshhh."
Then he pointed at Leonard's door .Penny also heard the sounds from inside the room and immediately understood, shrinking her neck slightly. Sheldon remained as clueless as ever.
The three quietly exited the apartment and closed the door.
Penny spoke up first "Martin, I'm glad you're back. Everything went well?"
"Yes." Martin smiled: "Penny, you look really good. Did you have a glow up while I was away?"
Then, noticing Sheldon standing awkwardly nearby, unsure where to put his hands Martin grinned mischievously and pulled him into a hug.
"No need to say more, Sheldon. You must be very happy to see me back. Don't be shy; let Uncle Scott give you a warm welcome."
No matter where, taking advantage of someone in terms of seniority is always a delightful thing. Sheldon, with ultimate germophobia, never liked physical contact, not even with childhood friends.
But being twenty-six, he couldn't outright reject like he did when he was a child, so he stood stiffly in place, being passive in the forced hug.
"Uncle?" asked Penny, "Why are you calling yourself 'uncle'? Didn't you just grow up with Sheldon? Or is there some unknown family relationship between you two?"
Penny's question didn't rescue the uncomfortable Sheldon.Although Martin released him, he immediately turned and draped his arm over Sheldon's shoulder, both facing Penny.
"Okay! I get it!" Penny looked back and forth between the two men, instantly understanding.
Martin wore a well-fitted bespoke suit, while Sheldon sported a T-shirt from his favorite movie.
Martin's smile was natural and comfortable, making people feel at ease; Sheldon fidgeted nervously, unsure where to look. Most importantly, Martin was extremely handsome; saying he was a movie actor wouldn't feel out of place. As for Sheldon, although not unattractive, his large eyes and thin, lanky body always made people think he had alien genes.
"To be honest, I still can't believe you two grew up as friends in the same area."
Penny's expression was indescribable.

After some small talk, Penny straightforwardly invited Martin along with Sheldon to rest in her apartment.
Inside the room, Martin took off his suit jacket, loosened his tie, unbuttoned three buttons of his shirt, and rolled up his sleeves.
"Okay! Can someone tell me what's going on with Leonard?"
Martin neatly placed his jacket and tie on the sofa and turned to ask, only to catch Penny daydreaming and water falling on the floor. He couldn't help but shake his head. "Hey! Penny, wake up! "
Penny finally snapped out of it, hurriedly putting down the water bottle and grabbing a cloth to wipe the counter and floor haphazardly.
Sheldon, who had been standing at the door criticizing the room's terrible hygiene, turned to look at the commotion and immediately felt this scene was very familiar.
As a friend of both, Sheldon decided to do something to ease the somewhat strange atmosphere.
"Penny, believe me, you're not the first woman who wants to have a more intimate relationship with Martin, so there's no need to feel embarrassed."
"In fact, since fifth grade, many women have exhibited various uncontrollable strange behaviors in front of Martin. For a time, I thought Martin had Vulcan blood and could control others' minds with brain waves, which is one reason I accepted him as a friend."
"Many women often tried to approach Martin through me, making me long for the time I spent as a visiting scholar in Europe at fourteen—it was the most peaceful period of my life."
Martin and Penny simultaneously turned to glare at Sheldon: "Shut up!"
Sheldon obediently closed his mouth, but his stubborn gaze indicated he didn't think he said or did anything wrong.
Martin shook his head helplessly and turned to Penny: "Penny, can you tell me now who the woman in Leonard's room is?"
Penny innocently shook her head: "I have no idea. Sheldon suddenly asked for my help and talked about some language stuff."
"Sheldon?"
Martin had no choice but to turn to Sheldon again: "Alright, you can speak now."
Sheldon sighed in relief: "When I returned, I found Leonard's door closed and a tie hung on the doorknob. I wasn't sure if this was Leonard sending me a distress signal or some other sign, so I sought Penny's help regarding semiotics."
"Sheldon you went to college. How could you not know the meaning of a tie?"Penny looked incredulous.
Martin shook his head with a bitter smile: "Penny, Sheldon was only eleven when he went to college."
"Ohhh!" Penny's expressions were always so vivid: "Sheldon, a tie hanging on the doorknob only means two things."
"Either he and a girl are having sex inside and don't want to be disturbed, or his hanger was stolen, and he has nowhere to hang the tie."
Sheldon thought seriously for a while before realizing: "Oh~ You mean a thief broke into our apartment and stole Leonard's hanger?"
"Why didn't you think Leonard is in there with a woman ?"
Spoke Penny finding Sheldon's train of thought strange again.
Sheldon replied confidently: "As far as I know, Leonard has has only one romantic relationship lasting twenty-seven days in his lifetime, but he has been burglarized at least eight times."
"Hence statistically speaking, I can only assume the possibility of the hanger being stolen."
