Chapter 31

**Chapter 31: Delivering the Letter**

Ninefold Flower Mountain.

A renowned fairy mountain, spanning thousands of miles.

On it lies four caves, and Qian Yue Cave is one of them.

“Although it cannot compare to the holy places, it certainly has its fair share of spiritual charm.”

Looking at the sprawling mountains, even Zhong Li couldn’t help but admire it.

“Eh, Senior Sister, you look different!”

Chen Ansheng turned his head upon hearing the voice, only to find that not only had Zhong Li’s important features enlarged, but her face had also changed.

Zhong Li glanced down at her chest, then shot a resentful glare at Chen Ansheng, “You pig-headed fool! Do you think the people from Fire Cloud Sacred Land are as stupid as you? If I didn’t change my appearance, how could I evade their pursuit?”

Chen Ansheng smacked his lips, saying, “The fairy realm is so vast; it’s not certain they would trace me here.”

Zhong Li, tired of the conversation, pointed at an image on a broken wall ahead, which prominently displayed the words “Demon Warrant.”

Seeing Zhong Li’s likeness on the warrant, Chen Ansheng stuck out his tongue and pretended nothing had happened, “I think using an image for a warrant is the dumbest thing. Don’t people know how to disguise themselves? It’s utterly foolish.”

Zhong Li: “…”

Li Xiuyuan looked on with contempt; this guy’s intelligence was worrisome, and he was shameless as well.

Then he said, “Fairy… Miss Zhong, ahead is Ninefold City. I’ll go contact some acquaintances to prepare for tomorrow’s entry.”

Zhong Li extended her finger and poked him on the shoulder, “I’ve planted poison in your body. If you dare play tricks, even if you hide to the ends of the earth, I can still find a way to make you perish. Understood?”

Li Xiuyuan cursed inwardly, but on the surface, he respectfully nodded and proceeded into the city.

“And you? Didn’t you say you’re someone’s little master uncle? Aren’t you going to make some connections?”

After Li Xiuyuan left, Zhong Li turned to Chen Ansheng.

“I’m not in a hurry; everything will be revealed tomorrow.”

Chen Ansheng appeared relaxed, as if he had everything figured out.

In truth, he was far from certain whether the current master of Qian Yue Cave was still one of Li Zhengyang’s disciples.

It was possible that the position had long been filled by someone else.

Soon, Chen Ansheng and Zhong Li entered Ninefold City together.

It was said that Ninefold City was once a gathering place for those who failed to find a master. As time passed, more and more people gathered, eventually forming a prosperous city.

After strolling through the city for a while, Chen Ansheng discovered that many people often approached him asking if he wanted to send letters.

At first, he was quite wary, fearing he would encounter a scam.

Later, he understood that Ninefold Mountain had its own rules: unless one was a disciple of the caves within, one could not enter the mountain before assessments were open.

This set a barrier for those wanting to gain connections through back doors, spawning the profession of letter couriers.

These couriers were individuals with connections, who had their own methods of entering the mountain.

Chen Ansheng thought for a moment and decided to send the letter in early, as waiting until tomorrow could bring unforeseen complications.

“How much for sending a letter?”

Chen Ansheng inquired from a man soliciting letter delivery services.

“It depends on the level. Sending it to outer disciples costs ten immortal crystals; to outer elders, one thousand. To inner disciples, one thousand five, and to inner elders, five thousand. For core disciples, eight thousand; for core elders, fifty thousand. Young master, which level of letter are you sending?”

Seeing business picking up, the man cheerfully elaborated.

What a rip-off; sending a letter costs so much! However, Chen Ansheng still asked, “How much does it cost to send a letter to the cave master?”

“Are you sure, young master?” The man looked at Chen Ansheng in surprise.

From the way this kid was dressed, he didn’t seem like he came from a big family, yet he could have a connection to a cave master?

Never mind, one shouldn’t judge by appearances; some people are just used to being low-key. Besides, if he were an ordinary person, that gorgeous beauty next to him would probably not look at him!

“Of course.” Chen Ansheng replied.

The man smiled flatteringly and said respectfully, “If you really have that connection, I wouldn’t dare charge you. I’d like to be friends with you and deliver the letter for free, as long as you take care of me in the future.”

Chen Ansheng was delighted; what a fortunate turn of events.

Thinking carefully, it wasn’t so surprising; those in this profession always needed to build connections. Being able to know someone connected to the cave master counted for a lot, making a free letter delivery trivial.

However, Chen Ansheng still worried, “How can you guarantee it will be delivered? What if you run away?”

The man quickly explained, “Young master, look, my shop is right behind you. We’ve been an established name for thousands of years; if I run away, the temple won’t. If the letter isn’t delivered and you come to break my shop, I won’t have any complaints.”

Chen Ansheng turned to look.

He saw a long queue in front of the small shop, all waiting to send letters.

“Wow, everyone’s using back doors?” Chen Ansheng was left speechless.

“Not exactly back doors. These days, without someone’s recommendation, no one in the fairy mountain caves will even bother, right?” said the man.

Chen Ansheng silently nodded; that was indeed true.

Nowadays, in the entire fairy realm, only reputable mountains and caves still retained abundant spiritual energy. Ordinary immortals seeking to attain enlightenment were as numerous as the stars. Without some background, there was no way they’d be accepted.

Not wanting to waste more time, Chen Ansheng took out the letter and handed it to the man.

The man took a glance at the envelope, which was inscribed with “To my beloved disciple, Nan Gong Xiu.” This truly shocked the man; Nan Gong Xiu was precisely the master of Qian Yue Cave.

It seemed this kid was indeed no ordinary character, having been introduced by Nan Gong Xiu’s master!

As for whether the letter was genuine, the man didn’t even consider it. Who would dare pretend to have a connection to the cave master?

After sorting out the letter delivery, Chen Ansheng planned to satisfy his appetite at an inn.

“Does the cave master know you?”

“I don’t know her.”

“Then how will she know the letter is from you tomorrow?”

After Zhong Li’s question, Chen Ansheng was left in confusion.

Seeing the dumbfounded expression on Chen Ansheng’s face, Zhong Li was surprisingly pleased instead of angry, “Anyway, whoever helps me sneak into Qian Yue Cave tomorrow will live; some people in this world will always pay a heavy price for their foolishness.”

With Chen Ansheng dazed, he remembered the token Li Xiuyuan had given him and immediately felt at ease, “Just kidding; I have my token, so why would she not recognize me?”

Zhong Li suppressed her disdainful smile, wanting to strangle Chen Ansheng.

……

A night without conversation passed.

The next day, the day for accepting disciples arrived at the four caves of Ninefold Mountain.

In a square at the foot of the mountain, each of the four major caves had set up preliminary selection stands. Passing the preliminary selection would allow one to take the entrance exam.

The vast square was filled with at least tens of thousands of people.

However, the four major caves only planned to accept eight hundred disciples.

“What’s going on? Why can’t I get in?”

At the edge of the massive square, over seventy percent of the people were blocked by prohibitions, while others entered without issues.

Those who couldn’t enter were obviously unqualified, at least in terms of physique or bloodline, resulting in direct elimination.

Fortunately, Chen Ansheng had an Innocent Sword Body, which allowed him to successfully pass through the square’s restrictions.

In the enormous square, there were separate pathways set up by the four major caves.

Thanks to the formation in place, the crowd didn’t cause any chaos.

Observing this bustling scene, Chen Ansheng felt excited, secretly thinking that after today, he would be able to cultivate in the spiritual mountains, and the days of punching demons and kicking immortal emperors were just around the corner!

“Kid, what do you see over there?”

Just as he was lost in his thoughts, Zhong Li’s cold voice startled Chen Ansheng awake.

Chen Ansheng followed Zhong Li’s gaze and looked towards the path leading to Qian Yue Cave’s disciple collection platform, where a banner was prominently displayed, reading, “Chen Ansheng and dogs are not allowed to enter.”
