Chapter 538: Do Not Read
I didn't care what happened. I didn't care how it happened. All that mattered to me that my child was safe.
"Has she still not woken up yet?" Rafael asked as he entered the room with a tray of food. I shook my head as I held Alicia's hand, my heart still beating fast with worry. I knew there was nothing wrong with her anymore. The connection between her and the Supremes was thoroughly severed.
Something I could never imagine doing was done in an instant with just a gentle tap from my father. She was saved in an instant.
However, she wasn't waking up. It had been three days since the incident. No one had said anything but everyone was curious, no, more like afraid. Whether that thing would return or not?
They asked themselves that question every day, every second of their life. Rafael wasn't any different. If his worry about Alicia wasn't on the same level as his life, he would be worried about the return of my father as well.
The world was quiet, to say the least. The world hadn't been able to get past the feeling of fear they all felt a few days ago. The palace was being rebuilt with the help of earth mages but even they were distracted and mistakes were made. Yet, there was no complaint from those in charge because even they could understand their source of fear.
The world was silent. It was at a standstill. No one could focus on their goals, whether significant or insignificant. The villains of this world were quiet, the heroes were the same. Everything was just… peaceful.
And that was all because of one man. One presence. Just a glimpse into this world for a few minutes, and even to the worlds beyond this fragment, and the peace that was sought for a long time came.
Of course, it wouldn't last long. Sooner or later, they would forget. Well, not forget it entirely but they wouldn't be able to live in fear as always. The fear of death was ingrained in a person anyway. Life had to continue anyway.
If not now, then sometime later. Just like a person who had a close brush with death, they would be confused and afraid for a while but then, the world will just go as it was. Life will continue. Nothing would change. Wars will continue and before that happened, I had to move.
After all, I had a head start.
"Where are you going?" Rafael calmly asked. However, it didn't seem like there was any indication to stop me. He was simply curious. Well, he could tell, couldn't he? After all, he was also feeling what I was feeling in droves at the moment.
Boundless wrath.
"To end the games," I replied and left. "Come with me," I said to Rose and Max standing outside. They both followed me without a word. They were still shaken up from the events of a few days ago but now was not the time. Now was the time to retaliate.
What happened to Alicia wasn't a coincidence. Her mental state didn't just crumble for no reason. Someone did something. Someone said something. Someone pushed her to that state. I couldn't ask her about it but I knew who to ask so…
"Bring me all the servants around her at the time. Soldiers, knights, silver knights, or maids, doesn't matter who. Drag them all here." I said, my voice as calm as it could be but the slight tremble in my companions' bodies told me a different story. As it should though. I was beyond angry at the moment. I was bloodthirsty.
Hadn't felt like this in a while.
"Bring them all," And they soon left. It didn't take them about ten minutes to gather everyone. While a sensible one would have run away after completing the job, they didn't know that I knew about them. So, that put them at ease. Or the real culprits ran away and these guys had nothing to do with it. But at least they'd know who was near Alicia when she broke down.
Whoever it was, it was a person of the imperial palace. It happened as soon as we came here. Nothing of the sort happened in the Caligula.
"I have one simple question to ask of you," I said. There were three soldiers and four maids in front of me. I had seen them all before. While I didn't know everyone's name, I remembered everyone's appearance. They were all long-time servants of the imperial family.
"Who was with Lady Alicia the moment before her awakening, the incident?" I asked. Unsettled. They were all clearly afraid of what was happening. They were afraid of the Death that came a few days ago but they were also afraid of me now. No, they should be more afraid of me.
"I-I do not know, your highness," The maid who was the one closest to Alicia replied.
She wasn't her personal maid as Alicia wasn't the type to keep one. She was just one of her attendants whenever she came to the imperial palace.
Unfortunately, she was telling the truth. The rest of them answered the same and although unsettled and their heartbeats racing, they weren't lying. None of them were.
So… it was someone else.
"Who else was with her? Who do you not see here?" I asked again, my anger a little toned down now that I knew these people weren't responsible for it. Alicia's guards or servants weren't fixed so I wouldn't know who else could have been near her.
"Come—Come to think of it, I don't see Lady Regia," The maid said.
"Lady Regia? Who the fu*k is that?" I asked.
"The—The childho—hood friend of Lady Alicia. She came to visit him befo—re the inci—hick… before the incident." The maid said, her stuttering even worse now that I was emitting my killing intent in full folds. The rest were the same. However, I didn't care.
"Rose," I turned to Rose and simply said, "Bring me this woman."
Nothing else needed to be said. Rose's body was enveloped in a bluish hue and she disappeared from her spot. I opened my inventory and pulled enough gold to buy a noble title and threw it at Max, "Distribute it among them."
It was my way of apologizing. Bearing my fear couldn't have been easy so I was more than happy to compensate them. It was even better since I was able to gain a lead from them. A reward was a must.
Max nodded and did as he was told silently. I left them both and came to the room where the teleportation circles were present. Sophien and Laura were already there, waiting for me.
"Go and prepare a massive smithy in the castle. Prepare metal of the highest quality and ingredients as I have mentioned." I said. Sophien didn't say another word and just entered the circle. Laura, however, came close to me.
She grabbed my hand and stood on her tiptoes. She lightly kissed me on my lips and said, her piercing blue eyes gazing into mine that almost made me melt, "Do not be too angry. I know how you feel but I feel uneasy when you are angry. This is not the man I fell in love with."
Her words were true.
However, my anger didn't just begin from anywhere and ended somewhere significant. My anger was justified. But I couldn't just not do something she asked me to. She rarely asked me anything so I was more than willing to control my emotions in front of her at least.
I smiled, the anger in my white eyes replaced by warmth. Seeing me smiling, she smiled as well as she placed her hand on my left cheek and said, "There he is. The man I fell for."
She didn't linger for more and turned to join Sophien in the teleportation circle. Sophien gave me a smile as well and then both of them disappeared from my view.
I guess none of them liked me angry, given even Sophien wasn't willing to see me angry. I sighed and turned to my temporary-built quarters. As I arrived, there was a bloodied Rose standing inside, dirtying my carpet. However, the blood on her didn't belong to her.
Next to her, I could see a man, a woman, and a young woman about my age kneeling, their faces pale and bloodied as well. But the blood on them wasn't theirs either.
"There was a slight… resistance," Rose said. Nothing more nothing less. Nothing more needed to be said.
Rose was given a command and she carried it out. Given the situation, I didn't care even if it was just slight suspicion. If I was wrong, I had more than enough to compensate them and even if those people beside Rose had lost their everything, I'd give them treasures far beyond their reach that they'd even thank me.
However, if they were the people I was looking for…
Well, not even the world itself could help them.
"I have a few questions for you," I said, my anger returning, although not the same as before, but it was returning, "And I expect you to answer them honestly. Otherwise," I looked at them with nothing but coldness in my already cold eyes, "There will be nothing but pain."
