Strongest Soldier King

Chapter 1080: Assassinating the Enemy Leader

The wind gently brushed by, carrying a bit of heat and an unpleasant rotten smell. In the vast primeval forest, amidst a stretch of tall trees, Luo Zheng quietly hid behind a large tree. Crouching, in a kneeling position, he aimed at Tang Tian. Facing his enemy, Luo Zheng's heart was as calm as still water, and he entered his optimal sniper state. In this state, Luo Zheng was confident he could kill any target, even if the opponent was a stronger presence than himself.

However, just at the moment of pulling the trigger, Luo Zheng spotted Piero, the so-called temporary supreme commander of the coalition forces, causing a stir in his heart. Caught between Tang Tian and Piero, Luo Zheng was torn. On one side was a mortal enemy, on the other a public foe. Taking down Piero meant the coalition would lose its command, and electing a new commander would take time and may not garner public support. Yet, there was only one opportunity.

Between personal and public interests, Luo Zheng chose to prioritize business. Quietly, he shifted his gun slightly, locking the target on the crosshair. Just as he was about to shoot, he suddenly noticed Piero and Tang Tian seemed to be arguing about something, causing suspicion to rise—could it be that their internal conflict was beginning to escalate?

Soon, Luo Zheng wished he could slap himself. Since their internal conflict had escalated, taking out Piero would leave the group leaderless, only creating more chaos. Why hesitate? With this thought, Luo Zheng took a deep breath, stabilized himself, aimed at Piero, and the killing intent brewed in his heart.

"Whew!" The sound of a sniper rifle broke the silence of the forest. The sniper bullet, with a terrifying whizz, shot out, drawing out a bizarre energy impact line. This shot came without warning, silently and invisibly, and caught even someone as strong as Piero off guard.

The bullet instantly pierced the left side of Piero's brain, burrowing inside. The bullet's kinetic energy, upon encountering an obstacle, spun at high speed, shredding Piero's brain to pieces and breaking open the right side of his skull entirely. His brain exploded, with red and white matter flying through the void, exuding an otherworldly aura, terrifying to the extreme.

Tang Tian, seeing Piero's head being blasted at close range, was suddenly shocked. His body twisted eerily, and he threw himself to the ground, cautiously observing the surroundings. A sniper hidden in the dense forest is undoubtedly called the Death God. Tang Tian dared not move recklessly, quickly contacting his companions through his earpiece.

Immediately, someone rushed up, shielding in front of Tang Tian, darting towards the direction where Luo Zheng had fired, as if facing a formidable enemy. Luo Zheng saw how quickly these people identified the source of the gunfire, knowing he couldn't fire anymore and missed his chance to kill Tang Tian, he lamented silently. Quickly, he packed up his sniper rifle and looped around to one side, planning to find another opportunity. Having finally seen Tang Tian, Luo Zheng did not want to miss the chance.

Tang Tian lay flat on the ground, not daring to move. Although he was the new generation Wolf King, ruthless and intelligent, after all, he was just a fifteen or sixteen-year-old kid. Watching Piero's head shatter like a smashed watermelon, he was struck by a panic that made him even more afraid to act rashly.

With Piero's death, Tang Tian no longer had someone to pay him. He looked coldly ahead and angrily shouted, "Brothers, cover my retreat. We're leaving this damned place. Piero is dead, don't expect Sam Country to acknowledge the mercenary contract and give us the commission. Staying here is meaningless, retreat."

"Understood." Tang Tian's trusted aides did not oppose this time. The employer was dead, and the mercenary contract vanished with it, what was there to stay for? To wait for death? As for revenge, everyone felt the situation was unfavorable; discussions of revenge would be left for later. Immediately, someone rushed to the front of Tang Tian, cautiously aiming towards where Luo Zheng was, ready to fire at any moment.

In the dense forest, Luo Zheng was in the process of moving, not caring about these people. Turning his head to glance at the direction Tang Tian was in, he found Tang Tian retreating from the scene under his companions' cover. The people who initially pursued also began to withdraw, surprising Luo Zheng. Quickly, he found a place to hide and observe, discovering Tang Tian's group starting to retreat further away.

"What is Tang Tian trying to do?" Luo Zheng became curious, considered for a moment, bit his lip, and started pursuing. If it were someone else fleeing, it wouldn't matter to Luo Zheng. He would be glad to see the coalition forces' strength reduced. But since the target was Tang Tian, it was different. Accelerating his pursuit, he tailed after them.

Quickly, Luo Zheng saw Tang Tian meet up with a squad emerging from the dense forest. The two sides exchanged a few words, raised their weapons, but luckily restrained themselves from immediately fighting. Tang Tian's numbers were superior, making the other side cautious, and they eventually stepped aside, allowing Tang Tian and his group to retreat swiftly.

Luo Zheng took a careful look at the other squad, thinking they looked like the Snow Bear, but the distance was a bit far. Each wore a camouflage suit, their faces smeared black and were hard to recognize, but seeing them run towards where Piero died, Luo Zheng snorted and kept following Tang Tian's team.

"What was the situation with that gunshot just now? Does anyone know?" Lan Xue's voice sounded in the earpiece.

"I took out Piero and am pursuing Tang Tian. She and her team are about to escape," Luo Zheng whispered.

"Escape? Piero is dead?" Lan Xue exclaimed in surprise, suddenly realizing something, and immediately said, "Little sister, quickly provide his coordinates. Mountain Eagle, Ghost Hand, go up and help. The enemy has not fully retreated. They are soldiers and won't leave without completing their task. Tang Tian is a mercenary; the situation is different, running away is normal. I'll stay and guard the hill, everyone be careful."

"Understood." Mountain Eagle and Ghost Hand promptly replied.

Lan Xing quickly confirmed Luo Zheng's position via the earpiece and sent the coordinates to Mountain Eagle and Ghost Hand's phones. The two quickly identified Luo Zheng's location through their phones' GPS and carefully pursued.

Luo Zheng also heard Lan Xue's arrangements, feeling warmed, not opposing, instead quickening his pursuit, saying in a low voice, "The Snow Bear Special Forces seem not to have retreated. They will not give up until they complete their mission. These bastards are adept at infiltration, be cautious."

"Understood, Zhou Gang and the others are scattered around monitoring. No need to worry on my side, but you, be careful," Lan Xue replied through the earpiece.

Luo Zheng acknowledged, saw Tang Tian's people speeding up their retreat, and pushed himself to chase harder. In the dense forest, Luo Zheng was like a hungry wolf hunting, tightly tailing the locked prey. While in pursuit, he unknowingly climbed a mountain, continuing to run along the ridge, and suddenly, he felt a strong sense of danger looming, startling him to the point that he instinctively rolled to one side, hiding behind a big tree.

"Whew—thud!" A sniper rifle roared, and a bullet hit a large tree, splintering wood chips and forming a giant bullet hole. Luo Zheng turned to look at the bullet hole, inhaling a sharp breath, breaking out in a cold sweat, just a single step away, that was close.

Instantly, Luo Zheng was infuriated. Those guys had discovered him and nearly succeeded in their sneak attack. Tensing all over, his ears perked up. The enemy was a sniper, and in the forest, a sniper is symbolic of death, not easy to mess with. Without finding and eliminating them, pursuing Tang Tian was impossible. Thinking of this possibly allowing Tang Tian to escape, Luo Zheng's anger flared even more.
