Strongest Deliveryman In The Apocalypse

Chapter 41: Sobin Gets Called To Action

The situation escalated quickly, and it was only a matter of time before the entirety of Sector E entered into a state of emergency.

All the Inhabited Zones in its borders were affected.

Without Power, many areas had to resort to backup power—like power generators or batteries.

However, such an option wasn't available to most places. As a result, the people had to endure the absence of power until the situation was fixed. This was an unbearable task for many, even in the apocalypse.

Mankind relied too much on electricity for everything!

Even if one left aside the luxuries or conveniences that electricity brought, there were still necessities that could not be compromised.

For example, the air filtration system.

Due to the Apocalypse's very harsh weather conditions, most homes had to rely on purification technology, air conditioning, and all manner of technologies so they could enjoy ordinary lives in the Apocalypse.

Without electricity, they would suffer the intense heat or immense cold that the Apocalyptic weather brought their way. In some regions, the air was even poisonous and they required electricity to maintain a stable living.

In the absence of power, such people were undoubtedly going to die.

This, and many more, was the reason why the Industrial Plant was so important. Not only did many people rely on it to live, but the Sector's government also needed it to maintain their activities and keep their channels open.

Internet… communication… surveilance… there were too many to count.

Electricity was vital!

The government needed to turn it back on, and fast!

However, this wasn't even the only worry that the leaders of Sector E had regarding the compromise of the Industrial Plant. Electricity was just the first thing to be affected, but the Industrial Plant produced a lot of other significant resources that could not be lost.

Weapons that they used to resist the Monsters was one of them!

Without a supply of these weapons, the government would be in another terrible spot, unable to protect the people of the Sector. If Monsters appeared in inhabited areas at this juncture, they would have to conserve their weaponries, since their supply had been cut off from the Industrial Plant.

These were the worries that plagued the government.

Then, there was also the matter of the S Rank Riders who were positioned in the Regional Industrial Plant.

These were Sector E's strongest weapons against the Monsters!

They were the only people who could actually face S Rank Monsters and live.

Without them and the weapons from the Plant, Sector E would be in a passive spot, teetering on the brink of destruction. If an S Rank Monster were to appear, such a threat would be unstoppable at that point.

At least, with the Deepcrawler King, Sector E still had a stable supply of weapons.

Communication and Surveillance was also active, as well as the other resources maintained by their Plant. But, with it gone, they were helpless.

"Which is why we have to save the Regional Industrial Plant." Sharon finished explaining everything to Sobin, who stood right in front of her.

They were in a conference room, with the Zone Leaders also occupying seats beside and behind Sharon. Only Sobin was standing.

Sharon had actually offered him a seat, but he chose to stand since he was in the presence of distinguished members of the government. Despite being a deliveryman on Earth, Sobin still had common sense and basic courtesy.

In situations like this, he figured it was only appropriate to stand before authority.

"Did you get everything I just said, Mr Sobin?" Sharon asked with deep consideration. "Do you want me to take it from the beginning?"

"Ah, no… I think I got it."

Sobin itched his head a little and repeated what Sharon told him.

"Exactly, Mr Sobin!" Sharon was glad that the Rider before her understood the situation they were facing. He could grasp how severe it was, not only to some Zones, but the entire Sector.

Plus, if Sector E fell… then all of humanity would be affected.

It would be too much of a loss for mankind.

"What exactly can I do in this situation, though, Miss Sharon." Sobin asked with a mildly confused expression on his face. "This doesn't really fall under the purview of my job as a Rider, and even if it did… this threat sounds like the type that only S Rank Riders should take on."

"A-ah, well… the thing is…." Sharon faltered in her speech a little before clearing her throat and speaking her mind, regardless of how shameless it sounded. "Remember what I told you before? That you're practically S Rank right now? Well, that applies here. You haven't gotten your license yet, but I believe you have the capability to handle this mission."

"I see…"

"And since all our S Rank Riders are currently… predisposed at the moment… we need you to be our lance."

"Hmm…" Sobin didn't say a word, only nodding in understanding.

The honest truth was that he would have actually gone to the Industrial Plant, even without Sharon giving him this mission. That was because the Power Outage affected him as well, and he was no longer able to enjoy all the luxuries that electricity was giving him in this world.

Plus, the System already informed him of this Quest, promising that it was a Chain Quest, so he was naturally going to take it on.

However, Sharon and her posse didn't know this, and he didn't want to appear too eager either.

'I'm not sure how helpful I'll be in solving this problem, but if I'm successful in this, there's a high chance that they'll keep calling on me to resolve all the issues they face.' Sobin sighed within himself.

This was the problem with being too competent.

Due to his strength and immense ability, he had attracted Sharon's attention.

If he succeeded here, he would be on the entire Sector's watchlist, and they would want to use him for every problem they had.

'When it comes to deliveries, I don't mind. After all, it's my job…' Sobin silently thought while looking at the expectant crowd. 'I get paid, and it's a profession I chose. But I'm not a soldier, and I didn't sign up for anything like this in this world.'

A National Service like this was also something he couldn't bargain with, unlike in business.

His Code also didn't apply here.

In a state of emergency, if his government needed him and told him the matter concerned National Interests… he had to step up—even without the allure of compensation.

This was even entrenched in Sector E's Constitution.

"So what do you say, Rider Sobin? Will you do your sector this great service by spearheading this mission?" Sharon asked with a slightly worried, but also expectant gaze.

For a moment, silence passed between the two parties.

Bodies shifted in the hall, and all eyes were on this lone Rider.

Then—

"Of course, I am willing to help!" Sobin responded with a brilliant smile. "This Sector is my home, and I run my business here too. Protecting it is my top priority!"

Despite saying this, though, Sobin had other thoughts.

'It looks like I might have to leave this Sector once all of this is over…'
