Stolen Identity: Mute Heiress

Ryan had a lot on his mind as he lay in bed, trying to figure out what had gone wrong and how he could have missed all the signs.

How could the private investigator give him a wrong information about Pete? Was he paid to do so? Or had it been an honest mistake on his side?

Why did Genevieve's secretary recommend Pete to be Genevieve's driver? Was she paid to do so? Or did Pete deceive her? Wasn't Pete in a relationship with her? Had it all been a lie?

He remembered now that Genevieve had mentioned that Jamal had flown in from Husla, and so had Abigail.

Pete had been at the airport on the same day Abigail and Jamal arrived in the country. It couldn't have been a coincidence. It wasn't.

Pete hadn't told him the reason he was at the airport, but now he suspected that Pete had flown in with Jamal on the same day and they'd all met with Abigail there on the plane.

Was that when it all started?

Did Genevieve employ Pete knowing he was connected to Jamal and the Hanks? Was that the reason her behaviour changed so much after she met with Jamal?

He had been informed about the fire at his mansion and the state of company stocks following the news of his heart attack and series of articles that followed it.

He had no doubt that Abigail was behind it. He wondered if Genevieve also had a hand in all of it.

Now he wished he had taken her calls when she kept calling. Maybe she had wanted to give him a heads up on what was going on.

Where were they all? Did Abigail and Pete run off with Josh to Ludus? Did Genevieve go with them? Was that the reason Jamal had invited her so soon? Because they were planning all of this?

How would they have made it work had he not left to find Karen? Or did they already know he would be gone for a while hence they'd hastened everything?

How could they have known?

Everything had gone so wrong just when he thought he finally had all the answers to his questions and had figured out how to set things right.

They'd all been fooling him this whole time while he foolishly trusted Pete out of his desperation to settle things before his health deteriorated further.

Did Pete give him Karen's number because they wanted her to tell him that Callan was his son?

That did not make sense. No one, not even Genevieve had known he was searching for Karen because he was trying to find out what happened to Nancy's pregnancy.

If they did not know the reason he was searching for Karen, that meant she had been telling the truth that Callan Quinn was his son, right? Did that mean it was all coincidence that Callan was connected to the Hanks and Pete?

Ryan sighed, confused by how scattered his thoughts were. The more he thought about it all, the more confusing it became for him. He felt frustrated that all he could do was just lie down there.

He sat up slowly and reached for his phone which had been left beside him on his request. He dialed Genevieve's line, and wasn't surprised to see that her line was switched off.

She'd abandoned him.

Did she tell Abigail the truth already about her true identity? Was Jamal aware?

He tried Abigail's line next, and sure enough it was switched off as well.

He drew in a deep breath, surprised by the ache he felt in his heart on seeing that both Genevieve and Abigail had abandoned him.

He knew he hadn't been good to either of them, yet he felt surprisingly hurt. He wondered if they'd poisoned Josh's heart against him too.

He briefly contemplated whether or not to try Pete's line.

What was he going to say to him? Ask him why he deceived him? Or how long they'd all been working together. Or maybe what his relationship was with Callan and how much Callan knew?

His heart ached at the thought of Callan.

What was he going to do? How was he supposed to face Callan if his heart might already have been poisoned about him? Where was he going to start from?

His eyes moved to the door when it opened, and his aide walked in with Dr Loma. "This is Dr Loma. She's the lady I told you about, sir. She's been busy with her shift so I couldn't bring her to you sooner. She just finished and can talk now. She's friends with Mr Callan Quinn. She just informed me that Mr Quinn is not in Husla at the moment. He's visiting his parents in Ludus and she doesn't know how long he'll be away," his aide informed him.

Callan was in Ludus?

Ryan's eyes shifted to Dr Loma. So, she was the one he had spoken so fondly about in the video clip from the welcome dinner?

Thankfully, the breathing tube had been taken out now, so he could speak even though his voice was hoarse.

"You know Callan?" Ryan managed to ask, his voice raspy.

Dr Loma nodded. "We are friends," she said, though Ryan noticed that she didn't sound very confident.

"How is he connected to Jamal Jonas?" Ryan asked, and saw the flicker of confusion in her eyes.

"I can't give you such information, sir," Dr Loma said, choosing to act like she was just tightlipped rather than show she had no idea how Callan Quinn was connected to the elusive billionaire, Jamal Jonas.

Ryan looked at her for a beat, taking in her clothes and her body language. "You can't give me such information or you don't know the answer to my question, which is it?" He asked her before looking at his aide.

"Are you sure she knows Callan? How did you confirm her claim?"

The aide looked from Ryan to Dr Loma, "The other doctors told me…"

"How did they know she's the one if Callan didn't reveal her identity? Did she reveal it to them herself?" Ryan asked, and the aide looked at Dr Loma again.

Dr Loma's heart beat fast against her chest. "I made a slip…"

The aide cut in before she could finish. "If you have any idea how important this is, you wouldn't waste our time or yours…" he trailed off when something occurred to him. "It's the other lady, isn't? You're not the one Mr Callan referred to," he said suspiciously.

Dr Loma knew she was in over her head in something she didn't know, and seeing how Emily seemed to know who Ryan was but was bent on not revealing identity, Dr Loma decided it was best she saved herself.

"I'm sorry. I didn't think the little lie I told yesterday would go this far," she said, unable to meet their gaze.

"I think I know the person Mr Callan was referring to in his video," the aide said, thinking of Emily.

Dr Loma turned to leave now that she believe her role was over, but Ryan stopped her. "Did you lie about Callan being in Ludus or were you asked to tell me that?" Ryan asked, wondering why she told them that.

"Dr Emily said Callan isn't in Husla and I should tell you that if it was important you should transfer to Ludus," Dr Loma said quickly.

Ryan wondered how much this Dr Emily knew about him and why she'd suggest he go to Ludus. Was Callan aware that he was in Husla because of him? Did Dr Emily tell them about his heart attack?

"Bring this Dr Emily to me," Ryan said to no one in particular, but Dr Loma and the aide left the room together in search of Emily.
