Stella Rogers: Reincarnated as Female Captain America

Chapter 48: The Reason of Me Being the Captain America

Note: Happy New Year to everyone. I hope this year brings you enormous joy, May you all remain healthy and happy throughout this year and the future upcoming years.

STELLA'S POV—

Right now, I am in the SHIELD's infamous Helicarrier. Nick Fury is sitting at the opposite end of the table. But he wasn't only that was there. Black Widow and Hawkeye were also standing right beside him.

I smirked, "Are you afraid of me?"

Frowning, he replied, "I am not afraid of you if that's what you think Stella. Forget that. It looks like you already know of me."

I nodded my head and said, "Bits and bits."

He said, "So, you know what I do. I am Nick Fury. I am the Director general of SHIELD. The SHIELD stands for The Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division. Our job is to protect the United States of America from all possible threats. But that's not our only job. We not only maintain the national security but also, maintain the global security. We operate all over the world."

Clapping, I said, "Good for you then."

Suddenly, Black Widow asked, "You are taking this serious, are you?" Upon hearing her question, I turned my gaze towards her. Looking closely, I could see this version of Natasha is very similar to that of MCU's, but her tone is thick with Russian accent.

I replied, "No-no, I am taking this seriously. But you know what?" I turned towards Fury again, "I need answers from this fellow. Also, I know everything that I need to know about your secret organisation. So, spare me the details."

Fury scratched his head, bald head that is. He asked, "What answers do you need from me then?"

I leaned towards the table, "Why was I chosen for this?" During World War 2, women didn't have any active participation then, how and why was OG Stella chosen?

Raising his only eyebrow, he asked, "Don't you know it yourself? Why are you asking me this?" Fuck! His tone held a hint of suspicion in it.

Without thinking, I said, "Being an ice-cube makes your brain weak. I don't remember everything from my past. Just some here and there details." I lied completely with a straight face.

Natasha said, "Is that so?" I nodded and looked at Fury's action.

Fury had a poker face, and didn't show much reaction. Argh! What was I thinking? Lying to a master spy would be futile.

Suddenly, he asked, "What's your mother's name?" My mother? What should I answer? Is OG Steve's mom and Stella's mom have the same name? Biting the bullet, I answered, "Sarah. Sarah Rogers."

Fury didn't say anything. Looking intently at me for a moment, he closed his eyes. Ah! Shit! Did I take the wrong name?

He asked, "How did she die? Where was she buried?"

Without thinking anything, I replied, "Tuberculosis. She died from tuberculosis. I buried her next to my father, her husband."

Opening his eyes, Fury finally nodded. He said, "You are the real Stella Rogers. No one should have known these except the real Stella." I wanted to take a deep breath but I held that desire in me.

With a confident tone, I said, "I don't know why did you ever doubt on me at the first place. I won't ask you. Just my first question."

He said, "So, you have other questions then," I nodded in agreement, "fine. You are right, women were not allowed to participate in wars. Most in general, were not even allowed to enter the military. Very few, entered the military. Those were the one with great quality and honour, like Captain Carter."

I sneered at his words. I asked, "Is that a jab at me?"

Chucking, Fury said, "No, Ms. Rogers. I hope you don't mind me switching between Stella and Ms. Rogers. You, Stella Rogers entered the army in an unorthodox manner. You cross-dressed yourself as a man and entered the army. During those times, our soldiers were bit lenient maybe as for why they were incapable of differentiating between a man and a woman. You had a very beautiful face, one that can't be ever considered for a man. From the files I read on you, I remember that you were only four feet. So, what do you what happened next?"

I whispered, "I got caught."

Fury laughed, "Correct. Your dear friend Mr. Barnes sold you out." What? But why? OG Steve and Bucky were good friends. Then again, I can't just assume it here as well.

I asked, "Why?"

"I will tell you. But let me continue this first," Fury turned serious, "after getting caught, your comrades wanted you to be thrown out of the army," I am not surprised there, "but the first and only director of the Strategic Scientific Reserve, Colonel Chester Phillips backed you up. He said that despite the fact that you are a woman, you had an unwavering courage and sense of justice. You were someone who would sacrifice her life for others, which he was indeed correct."

I nodded and asked, "He chose me for the Super Soldier Programme. But didn't the government oppose him?"

Fury agreed, "Yes, they opposed him. But ultimately, they backed down, as he was the Director. He thought you are the perfect candidate for the programme. Not only that, during that time, Captain Carter was a highly decorated officer, in spite of being a woman that is. She also backed you up."

There was something missing. I asked, "Is this the only reason?"

"No, there is another."

After pondering on this for a minute, I said, "The serum. They were unsure about the fact that the serum would work or not. They didn't want to take any risk. It was better than to lose a male soldier, who could contribute to the army."

Fury applauded, "You have really impressed me, Stella. You are correct. This is how you were chosen for the programme. Now, about your friend Bucky. Colonel Phillips had decided that you would be the candidate, much before your gender revelation. Although, he remained firmed in his decision even after your identity reveal. James blinded by his jealously, sold you out. Some best friend, wasn't he? Then, he died from after falling from Arnim Zola's speeding train. Karma, maybe. Then the experiment happened, nothing changed much except your appearance and height. You got the powers of a super soldier, and America got its saviour. You became the Captain America."

So, this is what happened? Without Colonel Phillips... I don't know what would have happened. Although, I am also thankful for Carter's backing. Without them, there would be no me here.

Sighing, I moved on to my last question. I asked, "If that's the case then, why was I erased from the history?"

The three of them became completely serious from this question. After a minute, Fury said, "It's because of you."
