Chapter 226: Does your face hurt?
"Roma is pressing forward."
"Watch this play; they're passing to Pizarro up front, looking for a way through again."
"Totti is retreating, raising his hand, asking for the ball."
"All right, it's to Totti. Let's see how he plans to initiate the attack this time."
"Vidal is right on him, sticking close again!"
"This Napoli player is fearless! He's not giving Totti any space and is forcing him to pass it to Vucinic."
"Beautiful! Biglia steps in with a clean interception!"
"Napoli is launching a counterattack immediately. Biglia surges forward with the ball."
"The counter is quick look at the pace! No pass to Gervinho this time, it's sent to Cavani instead."
"Cavani receives the ball sideways; the Roma defenders are on him, but Cavani is physically dominant and tall. He couldn't break through both center-backs, but he shields the ball and plays it out."
"Here's Rakitic moving up! He lines up for a long-range shot!"
"Long shot!"
"It's in!!!"
"Napoli scores again! Rakitic with the second goal!"
"2-0!!"
"This young talent from Switzerland has doubled Napoli's lead. The aggregate score is now 3-2, and Napoli have completed the comeback!"
"We're only fifteen minutes into the match, and Napoli has already netted two goals."
"Roma's defenders are giving it their all, but Napoli's players are showing their skill. Cavani, holding off two defenders with his strength, manages to pass the ball out, and Rakitic's strike absolutely brilliant!"
"And let's not forget, Rakitic missed the first leg due to a suspension from accumulated yellow cards. It doesn't matter now he's scored a crucial goal for Napoli today."
"Three to two on aggregate. The momentum has completely swung in Napoli's favor."
"The camera's panning to the sidelines, and there's the young head coach of Napoli only 26 years old."
"Before the match, he boldly claimed that Napoli would score three goals at the Stadio San Paolo. At the time, everyone thought he was out of his mind, that his prediction was absurd. But now, only fifteen minutes in, Napoli has already scored two goals. That third goal seems inevitable."
The broadcast switched to the Napoli bench, where the players celebrated wildly. Many of them ran toward the coaching area to celebrate with their coach.
"Well done, Ivan!" Gao Shen said with a grin as he hugged Rakitic.
The young midfielder, only 18 years old, was steadily proving himself as a rising star. Gao Shen had once longed for Modric, but now, he couldn't help but acknowledge that the team had struck gold with Rakitic and Biglia. If Modric were to join, it would mean benching one of these promising talents, which felt almost cruel.
Sometimes, it wasn't about amassing stars it was about building the right team with the right chemistry.
Too many stars could disrupt the balance, cause internal unrest, or limit players' development. Instead, it was wiser to cherish the players in front of you.
"And you, Edinson, you did great!" Gao Shen continued, making sure to spread his praise.
"Keep pushing, everyone!" He rallied the team, their spirits soaring.
"Remember the promise I made before the game three goals. We're at two now, and there's plenty of time to get that third. Stay focused!"
"Understood!" the Napoli players shouted in unison, their respect and admiration for Gao Shen reaching new heights.
The momentum had shifted.
Before the match, everyone assumed Roma's Serie A pedigree would be too much for Napoli to handle. They believed Roma would walk away victorious from Stadio San Paolo.
But now, Napoli was not only holding their own they were dictating the pace and dominating the game. Every counterattack felt dangerous, every turnover was exploited ruthlessly.
Roma, trailing on aggregate, couldn't afford to sit back. Spalletti was known for his attacking philosophy, and it was clear that Roma wasn't going to roll over. They kept pushing forward, particularly on the left, where Mancini tried repeatedly to break through.
Despite a few promising moments, Mancini's attempts to breach Napoli's defense fell short. Roma shifted their focus, attacking down the right through Taddei, hoping to find a breakthrough.
But tonight, Napoli's left-back Vargas was in top form. He wasn't giving Taddei any space, forcing the Roma winger to retreat and pass the ball back in frustration.
That's when David Luiz, the energetic and unpredictable Brazilian center-back, saw his moment.
Napoli's defense was holding firm, but when Taddei passed back, David Luiz seized the opportunity. He stormed forward with a perfectly timed challenge, stealing the ball from Vucinic.
Vucinic tried to recover, immediately pressing Luiz in an attempt to regain possession, but the Napoli defender was already ahead of him.
"David, left!" A voice called out from across the pitch.
Without a second thought, David Luiz glanced to his left and sent the ball in that direction, finding Vargas already racing up the flank.
Vargas, seeing the open space ahead, surged forward, quickly crossing the halfway line. Roma's midfield scrambled to recover, but Vargas was too fast. In mere seconds, he had crossed into Roma's half, bearing down on the 30-meter area.
Roma's right-back Panucci, wary of Gervinho's speed, hesitated for a moment, unsure whether to cover Vargas or stay with Gervinho.
Seeing the hesitation, Gervinho moved inside, freeing up the entire left wing for Vargas.
Vargas, having played alongside Gervinho for most of the season, knew exactly what the winger was doing. As Panucci rushed toward Gervinho, Vargas passed the ball inside.
Gervinho controlled it calmly, forcing Panucci to commit, but instead of driving forward, Gervinho executed a clever pass back behind Panucci's position.
Vargas, who had continued his run forward, latched onto the pass, now completely unmarked on the left side of the penalty area. With a quick glance at the box, Vargas whipped in a perfect cross with his left foot.
Cavani was already on the move, timing his run perfectly.
Roma's defense scrambled to catch up, but no one could stop Cavani's momentum. Mex tried to mark him, but Cavani simply outmuscled him, leaping high into the air.
In one powerful motion, Cavani connected with Vargas's cross, sending the ball into the bottom corner of the net with a precise header.
Doni, standing near the left post, dove to his right, but the ball was beyond his reach.
GOAL!
"Napoli scores again!"
3-0!!
"Unbelievable! It's been just 20 minutes, and Napoli has already fulfilled Gao Shen's bold prediction!"
"Three to zero! The aggregate score is now 4-2. Napoli is firmly in control!"
On the sidelines, Gao Shen had been watching Vargas's run with anticipation, nervous but hopeful.
When Gervinho passed the ball back, Gao Shen had mentally shouted, "Pass it! Pass it!"
As Vargas sprinted into space and delivered the cross, Gao Shen felt the outcome was inevitable.
When Cavani leaped and scored the header, Gao Shen jumped into the air with him, roaring in celebration.
The referee's whistle blew, signaling the goal, and the entire Stadio San Paolo exploded in cheers once again.
Gao Shen clenched his fists and shouted in triumph as his coaching staff rushed to his side, embracing and celebrating wildly.
Napoli had done it they had taken a commanding lead, and the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia were now within their grasp.
Gao Shen turned to the cameras, a wide grin on his face, and held up three fingers toward the broadcast. His message was clear: I promised three goals, and I delivered.
How do you like that? Does your face hurt now?
He opened his arms and laughed in satisfaction, reveling in the moment.
Behind him, Carlo and Guardiola exchanged amused glances, shaking their heads. Gao Shen was bound to ruffle feathers across Italy with his antics, but it was impossible to deny the man had earned the right to be confident.
Few had believed Gao Shen when he predicted three goals, but here they were, with only 20 minutes played and three goals already scored.
And the game wasn't over yet.
Napoli had more time and more opportunities to score again.
