Starting With a Reef [Global Survival]

chapter 69 - Day 25 of Survival 01

[Teleportation Card: After use, allows you to teleport to a friend’s location, or teleport a friend to your own location.]
[Workbench Upgrade Card: Can be used to upgrade one workbench of your choice—tool bench, sewing machine, forge, or alchemy table. After upgrading, the workbench can be used to craft more advanced items.]
[Livestock pen: Used to raise livestock such as pigs, cattle, and sheep.]
[Construction materials: Wood ×200, seastone ×200, iron ingot ×10, fiber ×500]
[Reed chicken: Large in size, tender meat, fast development, good meat quality, easy to breed, gentle temperament, poor foraging ability, needs to be fed by hand.]
[Golden ding duck: Robust physique, lays many eggs, suitable for free-range grazing.]
[Greenhouse: Also called a warm house, equipped with insulation and heating, can be used to cultivate plants from all seasons at any time.]
[Construction materials: High-temperature glass ×100, premium hardwood ×100, iron ore ×100, seastone ×100, vertical growth rack ×10]
[Oil extractor: Used to press oil from crops. Just add the raw ingredients and wait long enough to obtain edible oil.]
[Crafting materials: Fiber ×100, copper ingot ×5, premium hardwood ×10]
[Smoker: Automatic smokehouse. Place raw meat inside, wait long enough, and you’ll obtain smoked meat.]
[Crafting materials: Iron ore ×10, refined steel ×2, black metal shard ×5]
Yun Luohe collected all the rewards and thought, Looks like my next goal is to hurry up and build the [greenhouse] and [livestock pen].
Both redwood and iron birch are [premium hardwood], either one is fine.
But there isn’t much left now.
There’s no recipe for [high-temperature glass], so I can’t make it for the time being.
So, the material I most urgently need to collect right now is [obsidian].
The upgrade only gave a few pieces of [obsidian], but just a single [vertical growth rack] takes five, so the road ahead is long.
As for the [teleportation card], it’s a great item—no matter if it’s for support or escape, it’s extremely useful.
Unless it’s absolutely necessary, I can’t use it yet—it could be a lifesaver in the future.
Yun Luohe didn’t even hesitate before using the [workbench upgrade card] on the [tool bench].
This is what I use the most anyway.
After the upgrade, the [tool bench] changed a bit.
[Advanced tool bench: A more functional tool bench. Allows the production of higher-quality, more versatile equipment, and freely changes the appearance and color of items.]
There was now a drawing panel attached to the front. Players could sketch the item pattern they wanted on the panel, and the [tool bench] would generate the corresponding material directly.
Just insert the materials and it’s good to go.
From now on, if I want something, I don’t necessarily have to have a blueprint to make it. I can design it myself. If I do have a blueprint, it’s even more reliable. I can also change the color and style, and add whatever features I want.
For example, when making a cabinet, I could add a mirror to one side to turn it into a vanity cabinet, and even attach two hooks for hanging things.
……
After the upgrade, the reef area expanded a lot. At first, Yun Luohe thought the stone house hadn’t changed much, only that it was a bit roomier, until she discovered a staircase next to the living room. Upstairs was a small attic, plus an open-air terrace.
The vegetable patch also got larger. The trees I planted before have all grown into little saplings, and there’s a new area beside them—spacious and empty.
With this much space, Yun Luohe thought, it’ll be perfect for the [livestock pen] and [chicken coop].
The upgrade rewards just happened to include two chickens and two ducks—
Isn’t that basically telling me to raise chickens and ducks and start developing animal husbandry?
And now I even have the [livestock pen blueprint].
The materials needed for the [livestock pen] are simple, but since I don’t have any livestock yet, there’s no point in building it now.
After wandering all around the reef, Yun Luohe headed back inside.
It was getting late, but there was still a little time left. She needed to hurry up and finish trash sorting, couldn’t stay up too late tonight—
Tomorrow at noon, she’d have to set out for the competition, so she needed to rest and get up early.
Yúntūn had fished up two shells today that she hadn’t opened yet.
There was still a lot to do.

Yun Luohe sorted trash as she opened the shells.
Gotta finish everything before midnight.
[Opened white pearl: Obtained iron ore ×2, vegetable rack ×1, damaged blueprint ×1, grass-weave fruit basket ×1, rock sugar ×1, rotten glove ×1, chipped desk ×1, hiking boots ×1, chocolate ×1]
[Opened golden pearl: Obtained obsidian ×1, parchment scrap ×1, refined steel ×2, thermostat blueprint ×1, iron ore ×2, glass ×2, potato chips ×1, candied haw ×1, black metal shard ×1, millet ×1, grass seed ×2]
She hadn’t expected Yúntūn’s luck to be this good. It only caught two shells, but one was a [white pearl] and the other was a [golden pearl]. What a surprise.
From now on, I’ll have Yúntūn help with shell fishing.
Yun Luohe beamed at Yúntūn, not hiding her fondness at all.
“Yúntūn, you’re amazing. You did so much at home today.”
Yúntūn shot out a strand of silk and stuck it to a roof beam, happily swinging back and forth and making a cute chirping sound.
Ròubāo:
“Yun Luohe is awesome too! She helped out so much on the island today! Good job, you!”
Ròubāo: “Meow, I did a ton of work!”
Yun Luohe: “Yes, you worked hard today. Tomorrow, I’ll take Yúntūn to the island, and you can stay home, eat well, drink well, and have a good rest.”
Ròubāo thought about it, and it seemed—
Yun Luohe opened up the [thermostat blueprint].
She remembered that building the cellar just happened to need this.
[Thermostat: Maintains constant indoor temperature by precisely detecting environmental temperature and intelligently controlling heating or cooling, ensuring a stable environment.]
[Crafting materials: Bronze gear ×2, obsidian ×5, refined steel ×3, copper ore ×10, iron ore ×10, black metal shard ×10]
Forget it—even if I have the blueprint, it looks like I can’t make it yet.
Yun Luohe rubbed her temples.
What even is a [bronze gear]? The [tidal windmill] also needs that for crafting.
She messaged Mu Zitang, telling her to keep a special eye out for any [bronze gear] info—
If she found any, let Yun Luohe know right away.
Then, Yun Luohe took out the [parchment scrap] and [damaged blueprint].
She planned to try her luck with recycling in the trash bin.
She had saved up three [parchment scraps], and wasn’t going to combine them—she wanted to try recycling them separately in the trash bin, to see if she might get something even better.
Previously, combining three [parchment scraps] could yield a [manual] or [catalog].
Of course, the result could be bad, and she might only get some useless blueprints, but she had to try to know.
Yun Luohe tossed them into the trash bin.
She saw the trash bin absorb the scraps—
And to her surprise, it actually spat out a book.
Yun Luohe reacted quickly and caught it in her hand.
[Wild Vegetable Compendium: Contains illustrated entries on one hundred types of wild edible [N O V E L I G H T] vegetables. Reading it increases gathering experience by 20 points.]
It really was a pretty decent book.
Flipping it open, she could see detailed introductions to all sorts of wild vegetables; it would even make a good bedtime read.
It wasn’t thick, only fifty pages. If Yun Luohe read for ten minutes each night before bed, she’d finish it in no time.
Still, since she’d be heading out to the competition island tomorrow, she decided to just finish it tonight, because she was only a bit away from leveling up her gathering skill.
First, Yun Luohe drew her daily prize from the trash bin, then washed up, lay on the bed, and read her book.
[Lucky draw successful]
[Obtained: Insecticide spray recipe]
[Insecticide spray: Quickly kills various common insects and also repels mutant insects.]
[Required materials: Sulfur crystal ×1, acid rain 100ml, lime ×1]
That was unusual—so acid rain could be made into insecticide spray.
Yun Luohe had collected some acid rain as a precaution, but now it seemed she should try to store more of it.
She’d better make some acid-resistant containers for storage, too. Who knew, maybe it would come in handy elsewhere someday.
——
The next morning, Yun Luohe woke up early.
After finishing the Wild Vegetable Compendium last night, her gathering skill had leveled up.
After upgrading, she had a new skill—she could quickly identify poisonous plants, and any poisonous plant she saw would be highlighted with a red glow.
That meant she could avoid accidentally touching toxic medicinal plants while gathering.
It was actually a pretty practical skill.
Now, both her cooking and planting skills were level 4.
She had thought that after reaching level 4, getting to level 5 would be quick, but when she checked her experience bar, her motivation was instantly doused.
[Profession skills:
Cooking: Level 4 (522/2000)
Level 3 skill: Heat control (never burns food)
Level 4 skill: Portable grill (cook anywhere outdoors at any time)
Gathering: Level 3 (502/2000)
Level 3 skill: Plant resonance (shows nearby gatherable plants)
Level 4 skill: Poison identification (quickly identifies poisonous plants)
Beast taming: Level 1 (89/100)
Mining: Level 1 (67/100)]
Professional skills below level 3 didn’t have special skill effects, but her beast taming skill was about to level up—Yun Luohe figured she’d definitely reach level 2 after this competition.
It was only a little after seven when she got up. Last night, Yúntūn had spun a web in the house, then hung from a single strand of silk in midair to sleep.
Hearing Yun Luohe moving around, it woke up right away.
It quickly slid down a thread and landed gently on Yun Luohe’s shoulder, calling her name softly.
Yun Luohe was warmed by it first thing in the morning.
She decided to have breakfast and get all the supplies she’d need for the competition ready.
Just then, the system sent a message.
[The competition island for this wild survival event has been chosen: Mist Veil Island.]
Just as Yun Luohe expected!
So Mu Zitang’s idea to distribute information about Mist Veil Island for free must have worked, and it must have gathered plenty of votes.
As for how many people from the other regions voted for Mist Veil Island, she didn’t know, but at least the result was what she wanted.
[There are 872 participants in this event across all major regions. The competition will be divided into three brackets. Players in the same bracket can meet; players in different brackets cannot. This competition uses a points system, and the highest-scoring player wins.]
[Reminder: The top one hundred players in the leaderboard at the end will receive a summer survival pack; the top ten will get a summer gold pack; the first place winner will receive a mystery reward. All three rewards can be stacked. The prizes for this event will determine who has the advantage for the whole season.]
[Participants may only bring ten items onto the island. Carrying multiple of the same item counts toward the total. After the competition starts, the system will lock your backpack slots to ten. Any excess will be randomly confiscated and not returned.]
[The competition will begin in twenty minutes. All participants will be teleported to Mist Veil Island. Non-participants can follow the survival process of participants via the live stream in the chat channel.]
[Once in the game, the system will announce the detailed scoring rules…]
After reading the notice, Yun Luohe immediately started checking her backpack.
She could only bring ten items—she’d really have to think carefully.
The night stalker hunting knife and the upgraded bow and arrows were must-haves.
For armor, if she could only bring one, she had to decide between the pearl scale armor and the bat king chestplate.
One boosted defense and dealt counter-damage, the other provided health regeneration.
If there was a chance of meeting other players face to face, there might be fighting. Yun Luohe was confident in her own strength, and if she was just up against players, the bat king chestplate probably wouldn’t be necessary—the pearl scale armor would be more practical.
The pet satchel, the multi-function entrenching tool, and the golden sickle were also essentials.
As for food, she decided not to bring any. It would just take up a slot—she could bring the portable grill and cook on the island.
She’d bring a tent made from acid-resistant, waterproof cloth, too—she’d have to stay overnight, and acid rain might fall at night. A regular shelter wouldn’t cut it.
The island’s main resources were petroleum and fluorite, so she’d need to bring a mining pickaxe, and also a barrel for collecting oil…
