Starting With a Reef [Global Survival]

chapter 11 - Day 4 of Survival 01

But to make a fishing rod, she was still missing one Fishing Line.

There was currently only one Fishing Line in her backpack.
Yun Luohe thought of the Damaged Blueprint she had traded for earlier.
She ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) hesitated for a moment but ultimately didn’t throw the blueprint into the Trash Can.

If the Trash Can had already been upgraded and gained the ability to enhance items, she would’ve tossed it in without a second thought.
But right now, it only had the Recycling function. She had no idea what a Damaged Blueprint would turn into.
If it just gave back a few Fibers, that would be a total loss.

After all, this thing had cost her 15 upgrade materials to get.
She decided to wait a few more days and see after the Trash Can was upgraded.
Anyway, she had just obtained two new blueprints, so there was no rush.

Yun Luohe lay down to sleep, fully satisfied.
Closing her eyes, she was already planning tomorrow’s tasks in her mind.

The spring sunlight was warm and bright, and after a full morning of work, Yun Luohe even felt a bit sunburnt.
The Water Purifier had filtered through the night and produced 3L of purified water.
Now she had two Water Purifiers running simultaneously.

The reason the Water Purifier required Plastic was that it used two 5L plastic buckets—one on top to hold seawater, and one on the bottom to collect the filtered purified water.
Each Water Purifier could purify 5L of clean water per day.
If she could mass-produce them and make ten, she could get 50L of purified water daily.

Based on the current market price in the Trading Center, a 500ml bottle of water could be traded for 7–8 Ocean Stones.
Which meant, if she used purified water to trade for materials, she’d be able to save up for upgrade resources pretty quickly.
Besides, the demand for water across Zone 2 far exceeded 50L. Apart from selling water, she could also trade the Water Purifiers with high-level players.
Of course, the price of the Water Purifiers—she could definitely set it higher.

The only problem now was that she didn’t yet have the materials to craft ten of them.
She still had to keep collecting more materials.
Plastic and Charcoal were relatively easy to obtain. The main challenge would be the Iron Ore and Gravel, which required more effort.

Yun Luohe planned to use water to trade for Iron Ore and Gravel first.
She posted two trade offers in the Trading Center:
One bottle of water for ten materials, but the trade must include Gravel.

One bottle of water for one Iron Ore.
Currently, the demand for Iron Ore was still quite high, and since it was a high-level material, water alone might not be enough to get it. She could only post the offers and see what happened.
Yun Luohe was still taking custom crafting orders.

However, she no longer added people as friends—instead, she took orders directly through the Trading Center.
Unlike the two anonymous trades from earlier—
She was accepting Toolbench orders under her real name.

After all, she had already made it public in the chat channel that she owned a Toolbench, and many players already knew. There was no point in hiding it. Besides, for custom processing, using her real name added credibility.
She posted several orders for custom-made furniture and tools. As long as the customer provided the crafting materials and the fee, they could place an order.
Once she accepted the order, Yun Luohe would craft the item first and then proceed with the trade—this way, both parties were protected.

And it had only been half a day. When Yun Luohe opened the Trading Center, there were already over fifty new orders.
She quickly closed her listings—fifty orders would keep her busy for a full day.
It looked like she’d be stuck in front of the Toolbench all day today.

Still, considering how much she could earn in materials, the hard work would be worth it.
Yun Luohe crafted another Wooden Chest and organized her inventory.
[Ocean Stone ×72, Wood ×2, Fiber ×30, Iron Ore ×12, Plastic ×4, Glass ×3, Cabbage Seed ×1, Potato Seed ×2, Watermelon Seed ×1, Seaweed ×2, Sand ×1, Flour ×1, Floral Fabric ×1, Bamboo ×2, Soybean ×1, Fishing Line ×1, Towel ×1, Bottled Mineral Water ×8, Cotton ×1, Cotton Fabric ×2, Deep Sea Flint ×8, Parchment Fragment ×2, Damaged Blueprint ×1, Fishing Rod Blueprint ×1, Plastic Umbrella Blueprint ×1, Yarn Ball ×2, Leather ×1, Charcoal ×5, Bottled Mineral Water ×2, 3L Mineral Water ×1, A Basket of Strawberries, Egg Fried Rice, Coconut Shell ×2, Shell ×4...]

There was also some trash that Yun Luohe had piled into that lidless broken Wooden Chest.
Looking at her stockpile, she realized she was almost out of Wood.
Mostly it had been used for fuel and crafting Wooden Chests.

Even though she had more and more stuff, it still felt like she never had enough of anything.
She decided to ask for more Wood when taking custom orders in the future.

Now that she had more seeds, Yun Luohe planned to plant all of them.

First, she cut the grass and hoed the soil.
Then she planted the Cabbage Seed, Potato Seeds, and Watermelon Seed one by one, followed by watering them.
The Cabbage Seed she had planted yesterday had already sprouted.

Bright green leaves were poking out—it was so fast.
But the leaves were still tiny and looked very delicate. Yun Luohe didn’t even dare touch them too hard.
In just a couple of days, she’d be eating her own home-grown cabbage.

That really was something to be happy about.
There was also the Soybean.
Yun Luohe was wondering whether to use the small handful of soybeans to sprout bean sprouts or to plant them.

Regular soybeans could also be used as seeds.
Even though Yun Luohe had never grown them before, she still knew the basics of simple planting.
Planting soybeans seemed more troublesome than sprouting them.

But bean sprouts could only feed her for one meal.
If she grew soybeans, they would become bean sprouts, then pods, and finally more soybeans to harvest.
She only had a tiny amount now, but once she harvested a few kilograms, soybeans could be used for so many things.

She could make soy milk, tofu—there were endless options.
So Yun Luohe grabbed a coconut shell, poured the soybeans into it, and added some purified water.
This should be enough to soak them for now.

After tidying up the garden, Yun Luohe took out some food and water from her backpack.
She hadn’t eaten anything since morning, and it was already noon.

Her stomach was loudly protesting from hunger.
Now that she had Water Purifiers, she had enough water and didn’t have to worry about running out.
Before, she didn’t even dare drink much—maybe 1.5L a day at most. Now she could drink as much as she wanted, and it felt great.

She gulped down more than half a bottle in one go.
Today’s lunch was Egg Fried Rice.
It had come out of a White Pearl yesterday.

The golden, plump grains glistened under the sunlight, each coated in egg. The fried rice even had bits of leafy greens and carrot. The strong color contrast made it incredibly appetizing.
Yun Luohe was already hungry, and just smelling the aroma made her impatient to dig in.
The portion of Egg Fried Rice wasn’t very large—she finished it quickly.

After eating, she was still a bit unsatisfied. Her taste buds were happy, but she wasn’t quite full.
Even though she no longer lacked water, food was still scarce.
She could barely manage two meals a day, and even then, it wasn’t enough.

After all, the Trash Can couldn’t magically produce food.
Maybe she could trade for some food with Du Ruan-tian or Wu Jing.
That seemed more practical.

Anyway, the Lucky Club never had to worry about food.
Yun Luohe thought for a moment and decided to contact Du Ruan-tian.
She sent her a message:
"Hello, I’d like to trade a Water Purifier for some food."

After sending it, Yun Luohe didn’t wait for a reply. She cast her fishing net into the sea and got back to processing custom orders.
Just like yesterday, the most common order today was the Wooden Bed.
Almost every player, after getting a Thatch Hut, wanted a bed.

The materials needed to make a Wooden Bed weren’t much, but a Toolbench was required.
In any case, the fee she charged wasn’t high, and players were happy to spend some materials to enjoy the comfort of having a bed.
Currently, the number of players in the entire region who owned a Toolbench was increasing, but still hadn’t exceeded a hundred.

So Yun Luohe could continue this custom crafting business for a few more days.
Even though more people were now taking on custom orders, not only did Yun Luohe not lower her price—she actually raised it.
At first, it was three materials of any kind. Now it had gone up to four.

Because other players taking orders were charging three to four upgrade materials.

Whereas Yun Luohe accepted any kind of material, even junk, so more players still preferred to go to her.
After all, who didn’t have a few useless pieces of trash lying around?

That kind of garbage served no purpose and took up space—using it as payment to get tools crafted was the best use possible.
After the price increase, Yun Luohe received even more junk.
Whenever her Toolbench was running or the Fishing Net wasn’t catching anything, she’d take the chance to dump trash.

She was still using the Scrap-for-Cash function.
The most common piece of junk was empty mineral water bottles.
Yun Luohe had already collected over twenty of them.

She tossed them all in at once.
Gained: Plastic ×23
She opened her light screen and saw Du Ruan-tian’s reply.

“Sure! What kind of food do you want? I happen to have a few things.”
Yun Luohe:
“Why don’t you show me? Besides food, I’m also looking for Fishing Line—do you have any?”

Du Ruan-tian:
“I’ve got exactly two Fishing Lines. How do you want to trade for the Water Purifier?”
Yun Luohe:

“How about five food items plus the two Fishing Lines?”
Du Ruan-tian thought the offer was reasonable. She wasn’t short on food, and she didn’t really need the Fishing Lines at the moment.
But a Water Purifier—that was a big deal.

She hadn’t expected Yun Luohe to be willing to trade away such a valuable item. She started wondering if Yun Luohe had more than one Water Purifier, or maybe she had found the blueprint for it.
“No problem. But I wanted to ask—can you actually make Water Purifiers?”
There wasn’t much to hide about that. Yun Luohe had reached out to Du Ruan-tian in the first place, so she wasn’t worried about her finding out. The two had known each other for a few days, and all their trades so far had gone smoothly.

Besides, since Du Ruan-tian was part of the Lucky Club, if anyone else there wanted to buy a Water Purifier, Yun Luohe could sell to them—and Du Ruan-tian could even help negotiate a good price.
“Yes. If your friends need one, I can make more. But for others, they’ll have to trade with upgrade materials—15 Iron Ore or 10 Glass for one Water Purifier.”
Du Ruan-tian:

“Got it. For now, go ahead and pick your food.”
To be fair, five food items and two Fishing Lines were definitely worth less than 15 Iron Ore.
Du Ruan-tian was quite pleased.

She generously sent Yun Luohe a screenshot of all the food she had.
[Crab Roe Noodles ×1, Apple Pie ×1, Meat Sauce Noodles ×1, Vegetable Salad ×1, Pumpkin Toast ×1, Strawberry Cake ×1, Potato Cakes ×2, Egg Fried Rice ×1, Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles ×2]
No doubt about it—Du Ruan-tian had a ton of food.

Yun Luohe couldn’t help but feel a little envious. Lucky players really did live better lives.
They could actually pull so much food.
Du Ruan-tian:

“To be honest, not all of this came from pulls. I traded a few of them with other players in the group chat. I just… like to eat. I always want to try different flavors every day…”
“That’s great. Then I’ll take one Meat Sauce Noodles, one Egg Fried Rice, one Lanzhou Noodles, the Crab Roe Noodles, and the Toast. Those five.”
“No problem.” Du Ruan-tian had no problem giving them away—she pulled food every day and wasn’t stingy. She wanted the Water Purifier more, since she had started planting crops recently. She had just enough water for drinking, but not enough to water her plants.

This batch of food would last Yun Luohe two or three days.
She’d specifically picked more filling items.
With the food situation settled, Yun Luohe started thinking about how to earn more materials.

“You can ask around your club and see if anyone needs a Water Purifier. If they do, the trade terms are the same as I mentioned earlier.”
Du Ruan-tian:
“Okay, I’ll go ask now.”

Just as Yun Luohe stored the food in her backpack, she received a message from Mu Zitang.
“Sister Yun, didn’t you say you needed Gravel? One of my friends found some. I traded him for it—one piece of Wood for two Gravel. I’ll send it to you now.”
Yun Luohe:

“Great, thanks a lot! Do you still have enough food and water on your end?”
“Not really. I think I can only eat one meal today.”
He couldn’t help it. With his bad luck, he never pulled food from Pearls. He had to trade with others—but he was reluctant to give up his materials since he wanted to save them for upgrades.

Yun Luohe:
“I’ll give you a Toast Bread. Keep an eye out for more Gravel for me.”
“Oh, and I’m planning to start a club—one that accepts unlucky players who mostly pull trash. Do you know anyone like that on your end?”

“Seriously, Sister Yun? You want to be the Bodhisattva of this survival game?”
Mu Zitang thought Yun Luohe helping him wasn’t enough—now she wanted to help even more people.
