Starsea Fleet: Age of the Lord

Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Let’s Push It, Stormbringer

"Stormbringer, lift engine restrictions, enter full-speed mode. Charge the main and auxiliary cannons, and prep the T5 Cluster Annihilation Cannon!"

At a standard speed of 460 knots, the Stormbringer was already one of the fastest battleships in the Federation. Once engine restrictions were lifted, it could reach twice, even three times, its typical speed.

To safeguard the engines, Feng Mo decided to keep the speed at a safer 700 knots, just enough to start evading the incoming attacks from the Snowhawk Fleet. Once the twenty T5 Sword Dragons engaged in close combat, Zheng Yi, the Snowhawk Fleet's commander, would surely order his ships to concentrate fire on the Stormbringer. Striking down an enemy flagship was any commander's priority — and Feng Mo would do the same.

Just as Feng Mo expected, as the twenty T5 Sword Dragons closed in on the Snowhawk Fleet, Zheng Yi ordered his ships to charge their main and auxiliary cannons. However, rather than targeting the Sword Dragons, he ordered the radar to scan the Stormbringer.

A skilled commander, Zheng Yi trusted in his fleet's strength, believing that the twenty enemy escorts could never overturn the Snowhawk Fleet's massive forces. It simply wasn't possible. Moreover, the Snowhawk Fleet was well-versed in close combat tactics. If it came down to a brawl, they weren't afraid to face it head-on.

"Radar locked onto the enemy flagship, but the target's speed is high. Auto-aim has calculated its trajectory. Awaiting orders!"

"We've finally got you, Storm King. All ships, fire at every calculated position to block the Stormbringer's path entirely. Let this be the end for our esteemed lord of the storm."

As Zheng Yi finished, a barrage of laser cannons was unleashed toward the Stormbringer. In response, Feng Mo issued his own command with a slight smile:

"Increase speed — double it!" Did Zheng Yi really think the Stormbringer's top speed was only 700 knots?

Upon Feng Mo's order, the Stormbringer accelerated to 920 knots, moving like a comet, circling the Snowhawk Fleet in loops. Most laser fire missed the now faster-moving ship, while the Stormbringer's shields absorbed the few that struck. However, the strain on the shields was considerable, as these were powerful star-killing lasers.

"Commander, shield energy is down to 52%."

"Commander, all main and auxiliary cannons are charged, and the T5 Cluster Annihilation Cannon is fully prepped," reported Han Peipei from behind Feng Mo.

"Let's return the favor. Aim the main and auxiliary cannons at their T5 ships and fire. Target the enemy flagship with the Cluster Annihilation Cannon — fire!"

The Stormbringer, moving at high speed, unleashed twenty blue beams, striking ten of the Snowhawk Fleet's T5 starships. After enduring a 1200-missile bombardment, the continuous strikes from four Mystic Bird-class stealth bombers, and another barrage from the star drones, the Snowhawk Fleet's shields were already critically weakened or shattered.

The energy projectiles shattered the shields, piercing the exterior armor of several starships. Unlucky ones were hit in the energy or engine compartments, forcing them out of commission. It wasn't mere misfortune for the Snowhawk Fleet; Feng Mo's Stormbringer and its superior firepower were simply overwhelming.

Then, a column of brown energy shot toward the Snowhawk flagship, piercing a quasi-T5 ship and a cluster of drones before smashing through the flagship's shield, gradually dispersing afterward. This shot packed an immense punch — much stronger than the Snowhawk's first strike against the Stormbringer, which was only a basic star-killer laser. The Cluster Annihilation Cannon's second stage was three times stronger and capable of sustained fire.

Although the Snowhawk Fleet could theoretically use the Cluster Annihilation Cannon, hitting the Stormbringer would prove difficult since they couldn't estimate its maximum speed accurately. Besides, Feng Mo kept altering the speed, leaving Zheng Yi's fleet struggling to keep up. The Stormbringer's advanced performance clearly outclassed all Snowhawk Fleet ships, particularly in speed.

Pushing the engines to the limit, Feng Mo had the Stormbringer flying at a stunning 1380 knots, the highest recorded speed in the entire Starsea Federation. But it couldn't sustain this pace indefinitely.

Finally, Feng Mo's tactical advantage came into play as the twenty T5 Sword Dragons rammed into the Snowhawk ships. Unlike regular escort vessels, the Sword Dragons had two dedicated melee weapons: giant spear-like spikes and a massive spiked mace at the prow.

The twenty Sword Dragons, paired in twos, impaled the Snowhawk's T5 ships, smashing their armor with the spiked maces. The Snowhawk ships tried to respond with rapid-fire defenses, but the heavy shields and armor of the Sword Dragons rendered them ineffective.

The Sword Dragons held their ground in a melee against nearly a hundred Snowhawk starships, allowing Feng Mo to reduce the Stormbringer's speed to a more sustainable 600 knots.

"Commander, Stormbringer's weapons have cooled down, and the enemy has eighty-six ships remaining," Han Peipei reported.

"Charge all weapons, aim everything at the enemy flagship. Set engines to standard mode and stabilize our speed to 460 knots. We're going to end this."

Upon Feng Mo's command, the Stormbringer returned to standard cruising speed, and twenty-one energy beams fired toward the enemy flagship.

Watching as the Sword Dragons held back most of his T5 ships, Zheng Yi made a quick decision.

"All disengaged starships, charge main and auxiliary cannons, lock on the Stormbringer. Have the AI compute its trajectory and block all escape paths. Fire!"

He was willing to risk his life to take out Feng Mo's flagship.

As Zheng Yi's orders echoed through the Snowhawk Fleet, fifty T5 and quasi-T5 ships charged their cannons, positioning themselves according to the AI's calculations of the Stormbringer's trajectory. With cannons charged, they fired nearly 500 beams, trapping the Stormbringer in a web of deadly energy from all directions.

There was no choice but to brace for impact. Feng Mo had prepared for this when he slowed the Stormbringer down.
