Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Strange
The morning light filtered in softly through the bedroom window, bathing the scene in a welcoming glow. Emily slowly opened her eyes, feeling Matthew's warmth beside her. They were snuggled in bed, their bodies relaxed after a peaceful night, but reality was already beginning to set in. Soon, Emily would have to return to her world, where cameras and watchful eyes awaited her.
Noticing that she was awake, Matthew smiled, running his fingers over her face. "Good morning," he murmured, his voice still hoarse from the morning. Emily smiled, feeling her heart warm with that simple gesture.
They got up, and Matthew led her to the kitchen. The table was set with a simple but delicious breakfast: fresh fruit, toast, juice, and coffee. He sat next to her, and they talked about the little details of life, leaving the problems of the world aside, at least for those few minutes. It was a moment just for them, something so ordinary, yet extraordinary at the same time.
Emily then looked at her watch and her eyes widened. "Oh no! I'm late," she said, grabbing her bag. Matthew stood up at the same time, following her to the door. She turned to him, with a smile on her face, and gave him a quick kiss goodbye.
"I really have to go!" she whispered, but before she could take a step, he grabbed her waist and pulled her close again, deepening the kiss with an intensity that made her forget time. His hands held her tightly, as if he wanted to absorb every second of that moment. Emily felt her heart race as he whispered against her lips: "Good job, love."
And before she could respond, he gave her a playful slap on the butt, eliciting a surprised laugh. Emily immediately blushed, her face turning red, and buried her head in Matthew's chest, trying to hide her shy smile.
He laughed, running his hand through her hair, and said in a loving tone: "You know you're amazing, don't you? Everyone sees that star in you, but I see much more than that. I see the strong, talented and beautiful woman I have by my side. I'm so proud of you, you know?"
Emily looked up, her eyes shining with the intensity of his words. Each compliment felt like a gift he gave without expecting anything in return, and even though she was known throughout the world, it was in his arms that she felt truly valued.
"I... I don't know what to say," she murmured, smiling. "You always know exactly how to make me feel special."
Matthew smiled, running his thumb gently over her face. "Because you are special, Emily. And you always will be."
They stayed there, in silence, for a few more seconds, enjoying that intimate moment. Finally, she took a deep breath, gathering the courage to pull away.
"I really need to go now," she said reluctantly.
"I know," he replied, still holding her hand before letting go with a smile. "But we'll do it again, very soon."
Emily nodded, giving him one last smile before walking out the door. As she walked downstairs, her heart warmed, remembering the passionate kiss and Matthew's sincere words. She knew the world was a complicated place, but that day, she felt stronger and more confident, ready to face whatever was coming.
Emily looked stunning in front of the cameras. Wearing an elegant ensemble from the new collection of a renowned M-Town brand, she moved with the grace and confidence of someone who knew exactly how to capture attention. The commercial flowed well, and each click of the flashes highlighted her beauty and the power she conveyed to the audience. As the last scenes ended, she exchanged a few quick words with the crew, thanking them for their excellent work.
Finally, with the appointment concluded, she gathered her things and headed to the car. The day was sunny, but there was something in the air that made the atmosphere feel a little heavy. As she walked towards the parking lot, she noticed a strange presence. A man was watching her from afar, following her every move with an unsettling intensity.
Emily took a deep breath, trying to stay calm, but when she realized he was starting to walk in the same direction as her, her heart started to race. His steps seemed to match hers, which made her increasingly anxious. She tried to look natural, but she couldn't stop her breathing from becoming faster.
Quickening her pace, she reached her car. With trembling hands, she unlocked the door and quickly got in, but not before taking one last look at the man. He had stopped, and from where he was, he was watching her with an indecipherable expression, still fixed on her, as if he were trying to record every detail of her figure.
Emily closed the door with a sigh of relief, but her fingers hesitated as she started the car. Her eyes remained fixed on the rearview mirror, where she could still see the man. He remained motionless, his gaze fixed on her, something in his posture causing her to shiver.
Finally, she started the car and drove off, feeling her heart beat faster with each passing second as she drove away. Despite the distance, the discomfort accompanied her, as if she could still feel the man's gaze on her, even though he was already out of sight.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself as she drove through the streets of M City. But that strange encounter remained in her mind, making her alert and suspicious.
In the days that followed, Emily could not shake the uneasiness of the strange encounter she had had. As much as she tried to convince herself that it was just a coincidence, a part of her could not relax. However, she kept what had happened a secret, determined not to worry anyone, especially Matthew, who was immersed in a series of important commitments.
However, the discomfort increased when the anonymous calls began. At first, it was just one call that would drop after the first ring, but, throughout the week, the frequency increased. The calls became insistent, always from unknown numbers and with no one answering on the other end of the line. Emily tried to ignore them, but it was impossible not to feel a chill every time the phone rang.
The situation got worse. On one of the calls, there was a prolonged silence on the other end of the line, followed by low, continuous breathing. Emily felt her heart race, and although she wanted to hang up immediately, something was stopping her from doing so. Whoever was on the other end seemed to want to make her uncomfortable, and after a few seconds, the line went dead.
Even though she tried to stay calm and continue her routine, the days became increasingly tense. The feeling of being watched and the insistent calls made her feel vulnerable, even when she was surrounded by the team or the media. On the street, it seemed like everyone could be there to watch her, which increased her alertness and emotional exhaustion.
After another sleepless night, Emily decided it was time to take action. It was clear that this was not a simple misunderstanding or coincidence. The next morning, with a determined look on her face, she headed to the police station, without telling anyone about her decision. Upon arriving, she was met by an officer who led her to a room so she could report what had happened.
Sitting across from the officer, Emily began to describe the events, from the strange encounter with the man to the phone calls that had been disturbing her daily. Her voice was firm, but her nervousness was noticeable as she described the details. The officer listened attentively and took some notes, assuring her that they would take steps to trace the calls and investigate possible suspects.
Although she felt somewhat relieved to take this step, Emily was still apprehensive. Leaving the police station, she realized that there were now more questions than answers. However, she hoped that the authorities could help solve the mystery surrounding her before something worse happened.
