The trick to eating carnitas whilst reading Discord is to only eat with your left hand so your right can scroll, and interesting things awaited me when I got home that night. I had a slew of reviews on my brand-new poem "Finding My Voice."

Coraline

From A Beautiful Heart and Soul

This poem is so true it's like magic. Everyone who is an artist and pours themselves into their creations will find this one inspiring. It's like music that sings to an inner part of us and awakens a longing then fulfills it. I certainly found myself in these lines, and I love these words with all that I am.

Healing Takes Time

I've read every poem by this writer, and I can see how much soul is in them. Even the funny one. But, it's just how human they all are. They're so real and make me feel like someone else has been on a healing journey too.

Art Is More Than Art

It's a bit of ourselves, isn't it? That's what this poem is about.

Step out of the pages, Ayela Scarsdale. Everyone wants to know you and love you because everything you write makes us feel so alive!

Threads Of Reality

I think this poem has a companion in "Girl In The Pages," at least, that's how I read it. If you look at them side by side, you'll see characters coming alive and telling a story. And that story is this: people in the pages of books have thread of reality woven through them. They aren't real in and of themselves, but they reflect the outer and inner worlds of their creators. It's a beautiful moment to see that truth captured in a poem.

Wow. So lovely. Every single word meant the world to me, and I wanted to hang them on the walls. Maybe I would. I could make a collage of all the kind reviews and turn it into something decorative for my apartment. Ping! DM from HC.

HC: I've got something for you again.

Ayela: HC! OMG, thank you for the review. I just read them all. I'm amazed.

HC: 🙂. "Finding My Voice" seems like an echo or a sister of "Girl In The Pages." That's what I wanted to talk to you about.

Ayela: 👀

HC: I loved it so much I asked a friend to put it to music. Her name is Coraline, and she sings in one of the lounges I know of. I hope you like piano. Link to video of Finding My Voice.

Play "finding My Voice" by Ayela Arcana

I couldn't believe it. A gorgeous piano melody accompanied a soulful, rich voice singing my lines with angst and passion. The piano sounded simple, but I wasn't sure I could pick it out on my own. If I could've put my poem to music, it would've sounded exactly like that video. I played it again, wondering if I wanted to share the musical part of myself with HC.

Ayela: She's amazing, HC. I cannot thank you enough for this. I saw her review of my poem. It means so much to me.

HC: She genuinely loves it.

Ayela: Would she give me the sheet music?

HC: !!!!! You play piano?!!!!!!

Ayela: lol. 😄 YES!

HC: OMG, I had no idea. Do you sing too?

Ayela: only a little, I'm not as strong a vocalist as Coraline

HC: I bet she'd love to talk to you. She's on Discord. Here's her handle: CoralineAsIs.

Ayela: I can't thank you enough for this song. Imma ask her if I can embed it in my poem.

HC: Good luck! 💖

Ayela: 💜

Amazing. Just amazing. The poem was, of course, a piece of me, and the fact that people really loved it meant so much. It also made me feel naked and exposed; as though the whole world could see the inside me that I usually only let out when I was typing.

That was the best thing about having a secret identity. I didn't have to face anyone or let them see what it meant when I read their words. I could just keep pretending to myself that it was something far away that didn't have anything to do with my real life.

But there was a tiny glimmer in my heart that wanted to show the world who I was, to tell them: IT'S ME! IT'S SAM!!!

It just wasn't ready yet.
