Star Wars: The War That Only the UNSC Can End

13-Information

Arnet, feeling the pressure of the situation and no other options than those available, nods firmly and gives Serina the thumbs up. “Go ahead, Serina. Stay online with communications.”

Serina, the UNSC Infinity AI, comes to life with a bright glow on her holographic projector. “Thank you, Commander. Proceeding with report.”

Immediately, the hologram transforms into a map of the Naboo capital, where bright colors mark the most affected areas. “The situation in the capital is critical. Currently, there are thousands of wounded among Republic forces and Mandalorians. The regions with the highest Covenant presence can be seen here,” he notes, his voice resonating with the coldness and precision of a military system.

Images of Keren appear on the hologram, highlighted in red. “The city of Keren is our immediate priority. According to the data obtained, there are still Republic troops fighting to maintain control.” This report has taken everyone by surprise, save for the UNSC personnel.

The people exchange glances, shocked and concerned. The idea that there are still soldiers fighting on Keren brings a heavy silence to the room. Arnet frowns as he watches the recordings below: clones in combat, firing on Covenant forces, communicating through channels jammed with calls for reinforcements.

Padmé, visibly uneasy, leans forward and asks, "When are these recordings from, Serina?"

The AI responds directly and efficiently, "The recordings were captured 10 minutes ago."

Anakin, Aayla Secura, and Obi-Wan briefly stepped aside to discuss the situation. Their conversation was serious, marked by concern at the lack of forces in optimal condition.

"We have hundreds of wounded and only a few hundred clones fit to fight," Obi-Wan commented, his tone cautious. “We cannot risk any more lives than necessary. This operation is too risky without reinforcements.”

Aayla nodded, looking at the projected map. “I agree, but… we cannot leave our soldiers on Keren without support. It would be leaving them to their own devices.”

Before they could make a decision, Arnet and Serina stepped in. “We understand your concern, Jedi,” Serina said, her voice clear and neutral, “but we have already assessed the situation. The UNSC will take control of the operation on Keren. Our Spartans and Marines are ready to meet the Covenant threat with the necessary equipment and resources.”

Arnet added firmly, “We will take care of it. You can focus on securing the capital and tending to the wounded.”

However, Anakin, with characteristic determination, stepped forward. "With all due respect, Arnet, these soldiers are my responsibility. If there is an opportunity to do something, I will be there. We will offer 150 more clones and several LAATs to support the siege."

Obi-Wan cast a disapproving glance at Anakin, but his former Padawan did not back down. "I will go myself, and Ahsoka will be with me," he added, without hesitation. "Our men need to see that we do not abandon them, that we fight alongside them."

Arnet looked at him in silence for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Very well, Skywalker. Your troops may accompany us. But understand that command of this operation remains in our hands."

Anakin nodded, and thus the agreement was sealed.

Padmé looked at Arnet and Serina with a mixture of curiosity and concern, unable to contain her questions any longer.

"Where do you come from? How is it that such an advanced army has never been seen in this galaxy before?"

Before Arnet could respond, Serina stepped forward, adopting a cold, neutral tone that filled the room with an almost somber air.

"We have spent centuries traveling in suspended animation," Serina replied, her voice reverberating in the silence of those present. "Our purpose, and that of our ancestors, has been to eradicate the Covenant from any corner of the universe where they hide or threaten human life."

Padmé narrowed her eyes, sensing the harshness in the AI's words, and with a slight tremor in her voice, she insisted. "But how did all this start? How did you get involved in such a... endless war?"

Serina took a virtual breath and then spoke, her words like stones falling to the bottom of a well.

"The Human-Covenant War has been one of the most devastating in our history," she began, without softening details. "The Covenant, under the guise of a 'holy war,' decided that humans were heretics who must be eradicated. And so it began. One planet after another, they attacked and destroyed our colonies. They offered no negotiations, no chance for truce. Only destruction."

On the holotable, Serina projected images of devastated planets, skies filled with smoke and scattered bodies. Scenes of cities burning, entire worlds in ruins, and the bodies of thousands of fallen human soldiers.

"We lost hundreds of colonies. Some planets were burned to the ground until no life remained. Millions, and then billions of civilians, innocent civilians... annihilated."

The Jedi and Padmé listened in silence, their expressions hardening as Serina continued.

"We have lost nearly seven billion human lives at the hands of the Covenant," she continued, each word a blow to the chest for those present. "Planets destroyed, generations that will never see the light of day again. And yet we continue forward because if we don't, they will destroy what's left of our kind."

The shock was evident on the faces of those listening to her. Padmé swallowed, her hands shaking. The Jedi, accustomed to war, could not hide their horror at the scale of the suffering described to them.

Serina failed to mention the Flood or the Forerunners, and the final words hung in the air, an echo of pain and loss that was almost incomprehensible.

"If we are here today," Serina continued, "it is because we have no other choice. We have sworn to protect the existence of our species and to prevent the Covenant from destroying another galaxy. That is why we will stop at nothing to ensure that no one else suffers what we have experienced."

Over the next few hours, the surviving clones, in collaboration with UNSC soldiers, carried out a rescue effort that challenged both their physical and mental strength. Theed, the majestic capital, now lay a tomb of rubble and fire, a gray and twisted monument to Covenant brutality. Amid the remains of collapsed buildings and shattered streets, rescue teams dragged bodies, removed debris, and desperately searched for any sign of life.

The screams of civilians trapped beneath the rubble mixed with the sound of cargo vehicles and the rumble of explosions that still echoed in the distance. Each discovery of a survivor brought momentary relief, but the devastation gave no respite, and every few meters a new body appeared, with less and less chance of being rescued alive. Among the corpses of civilians, there were also fallen clones, victims of the brutal Covenant onslaught.

One of the clones, armor worn and covered in dust, watched as a UNSC team carefully lifted the remains of a fallen structure. With a tired look, he muttered to a nearby soldier, "Holding this up... wasn't in our training."

As they cleared away more rubble, both teams began to exchange stories of battles and losses they had suffered. Clones and UNSC soldiers shared words that, though brief, contained deep, honest respect. The clones, in their steely discipline, were not usually emotional. But in the face of devastation, they could not hide exhaustion, pent-up anger, and sadness for those they could not save. And, in the silence that reigned between them after each conversation, both sides recognized that, despite coming from different worlds and different histories, they shared the same hell in combat.

"These bastards will not stop," a clone muttered as he carried the body of a dead civilian, his eyes hardened with rage. "But as long as we have a weapon and a reason to fight, we will make them regret it."

A UNSC soldier, drenched in sweat and dust, squeezed his fellow clone's arm in a gesture of solidarity. "You are not alone in this. We will hold on to the end."

The hours passed, and despite extreme fatigue, the rescue work continued, no matter how many bodies had to be moved or how many wounded begged for help. The empathy and respect between the clones and the UNSC grew with each rescue mission, with each life saved and each word shared between them.

The construction of the base took longer than anticipated, stretching out over several hours as the UNSC and Republic teams worked tirelessly. It stood imposingly outside the Theed palace, a modern fortress that reflected the power and determination of both sides in their fight against the Covenant.

As the structures took shape, the base began to stand out for its rugged, functional design. It was unlike any Republic facility the Jedi and clones were familiar with; it was a massive construction, designed to withstand siege and equipped with advanced technology they had only just begun to assimilate. Reinforced metal walls glowed with a faint gleam, and automated turrets were strategically deployed at critical points, ready to repel any attempted attack.

As workers—both Republic soldiers and UNSC Marines—erected command modules, rest areas, and field hospitals, the atmosphere was charged with a sense of urgency and purpose. Tools creaked, command voices rang out, and the echo of hurried footsteps created a symphony of military activity.

The base would not just be a shelter; it would become a bastion of resistance. As the structures rose, holograms of strategies and maps were projected into the operations room, where leaders from both sides discussed the logistics of the upcoming assault. Arnet, along with the Jedi, drew lines over the areas of greatest Covenant activity, mapping every movement with precision.

Padmé Amidala stood in a remote corner of the base, her eyes lost in the desolation that had ravaged her home. The capital of Naboo, once vibrant and full of life, now lay in ruins, with shattered buildings and debris strewn everywhere. Sadness washed over her, and she couldn't stop the tears from welling up in her eyes.

Anakin, noticing her condition, approached cautiously, feeling his own heart heavy at the devastation surrounding his beloved. He sat down beside her, taking her hand tenderly. "Padmé, I'm so sorry," he said in a whisper, his voice soft but firm, like an anchor in the midst of the emotional storm they both faced. "I know what this means to you."

Padmé took a deep breath, trying to control her emotions. “It’s not just my home, Anakin. It’s the essence of who we are. Every corner of Theed holds memories… happy times that are now swept away by this war,” her words trailed off into a murmur, and the tears continued to flow.

Anakin looked at her, feeling the deep connection they had. “We will rebuild,” he promised, squeezing her hand. “This can’t be the end. The people need hope, and we have to be that hope.”

In that instant, they forgot about the chaos around them. They leaned close to each other, sharing a brief but warm embrace that reminded them of the strength of their love in the midst of the darkness. Anakin gently stroked Padmé’s back, trying to convey comfort through his touch.

"I promise I will do everything I can to protect you and our people," Anakin continued, his eyes filled with determination. "I will not let any more harm be done. This will only make us stronger."

Padmé pulled back slightly, looking into his eyes. "You have always been my strength, Anakin. Sometimes, I wonder if I am up to this fight. But when I am with you, I feel like we can overcome anything."

The silence that followed was comforting, a moment of calm in the midst of the storm. They stood together, surrounded by desolation, but also the possibility of a better future. While the outside world continued to be in turmoil, they found refuge in their love, a ray of light amidst the darkness that surrounded them.

Eventually, both sides managed to establish precise and effective coordination. Theed Palace became the center of strategic operations, with holograms and tactical maps projected in the great hall where, until recently, only matters of state were discussed. Now, it was the epicenter of an unprecedented military alliance, where soldiers and officers of the Republic and the UNSC crossed paths, sharing data and strategies for the siege of Keren.

Arnet met with the leading Jedi, including Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Aayla Secura, who were closely observing the intelligence maps on the situation in Keren. The city, converted into a Covenant stronghold, was key to the control of Naboo, and Arnet knew it. Despite the calmness in his voice, each of his gestures was precise, direct, typical of someone who knows the importance of each decision.

"It is essential to understand what we are facing," Arnet said in a firm voice. "The Covenant is holding strong in Keren. We may be facing traps and fortifications we have not yet seen." Turning back to the map, he added, "I have already sent an advance reconnaissance force into the city. If there is anything we do not know about their positions, Noble Team will find out."

The Jedi exchanged looks of surprise and respect; they knew this reconnaissance force was special. Noble Team, an elite group of soldiers with experience in fighting the Covenant, was well known for their effectiveness and bravery. This was Noble Team's first official mission on Naboo, and everyone understood the importance of what was at stake.

As the meeting was taking place, radio transmissions began to be received of Noble Team's first movements on the city's fringes. Tension rose in the command room, with each word echoing with the determination of a mission that could tip the balance in Naboo's favor.

"With Noble Team on the ground, we will soon have clear information on what we face at Keren," Arnet added, looking at the Jedi with a seriousness that conveyed the critical nature of the operation. "Your work is what will make the difference in the success of this operation."

The lights of the tactical maps continued to project themselves over the faces of those present, highlighting the intensity of each member in the command room. The capital of Theed, now fortified and vigilant, awaited the reports from Noble Team. Each was prepared to move forward; the alliance between the UNSC and the Republic launched itself with determination into the siege of Keren, a decisive step in the fight against the Covenant on Naboo.
