Chapter 35: The Prince Of Flames

Nasiah's eyes widened as he saw the land erupt into flames out of nowhere. Yet he immediately noticed that none of the people were harmed and so stayed calm, much like his mother.

"Should we go and help them?" He looked to his mother, who was intently staring at the scene.

Myrym had no idea what just happened; one of her many plans was to create a distraction using Nasiah. However, this was good enough. She now had to hope that the prisoners would use this to escape.

"Not yet; we have to wait for what comes next. We can't be so rash right now, Nasiah. We also can't expose our presence until needed."

The boy heeded his mother's words. He trusted her judgment heavily as he knew that his mother was a wise and intelligent woman.

They both watched as Forenus began to assess the situation. The Marquis knew that in times of emergency are the times to be most alert.

He raised his hand up and commanded them all with a single word. "Halt!"

Forenus checked all around himself. Then looked to Forcas and gave her a nod, signaling for her to go and look around for what just happened.

He then turned to the soldiers and began to issue orders. "Check on the prisoners, the carriages, and the horses in that order."

The order was to make sure that they would not use this opportunity to riot or to escape by sabotaging their carriages in any way, shape, or form.

One of the scouts came back. They were haggard and out of breath, yet they gulped down their fear in their throat and spoke.

"H-he's here! They found out… they found out… it can't be-"

But before he could say anything else, Forenus shook him. "Calm down. Look at my eyes; be specific; who is here?"

In the distance, the silhouettes of horses began to slowly surround the wall of flames that boxed the men inside.

"It's him… it's the Prince of House Yuseff!"

And with that, a single man on a glorious white horse galloped into the scene. He was adorned in silver and gold armor of royalty with a head of hair with the color of nordic blond.

By his side, he wielded a flaming jeweled sword that radiated with the power to sunder and smite down the army standing before him.

He looked down upon his enemies with a cold and piercing gaze of his blue eyes as if was constantly studying each and every one of their movements.

Forenus looked upon the man and said. "David Yuseff. Welcome to Nahar."

Nasiah's eyes widened as he looked at his mother in glee. "Mother. It's your husband! He's out there right now!"

Myrym was thankful for her son being able to pick up the finer details. However, she was surprised to find him here, in all places.

"He's really here. That can either be very good or very bad overall."

She was correct; his appearance here was so sudden and completely unexpected. However, that was why he was here in the first place.

David knew something went wrong when he heard that Myrym's house was ransacked and attacked. He checked all of the bodies left there; while many had wolf-like claws embedded into them and slashes across their body in precise areas, he did not see Myrym's corpse among them.

He quickly deduced that she was taken and kidnapped by a rebel faction. However, this theory was adapted so that she escaped once he noticed that several of the servants' bodies were missing, too.

Taking the maids or butlers would have no political or economic benefit. That would mean they would have fled. However, it would then beg the question as to where.

He searched around and found that there was a missing boat. From there, he concluded that they must have fled to one of the many safe islands that existed within the ocean, which was placed there to be inconspicuous.

However, he knew they would be followed. From the wolf marks he found accompanied by the blade, he knew that the one to make such an attack would be Forcas, the Knight of the Marquis Forenus.

This was also supported because he had recently begun to push the offensive onto the region of Nahar, where Forenus ruled over.

David knew that the man was a noble who specialized in navy combat, and so would easily follow where Myrym would have ended up and kidnapped her there.

While it seemed strange to arrive at the same conclusion of his wife being kidnapped, the process did matter to David. It meant that he could act on at least an additional time frame.

It would be simply, of course, to push forward with his troops that were stationed in Nahar. He would use Jaguar and Jossel, who were on standby, to assist in this process to take back his wife.

However, it was not so simple. He had a feeling that Forenus would want to negotiate, so he situated himself near Nahar in case that message was delivered.

He instead got something much more different. He first got the message that Forcas had returned, which would mean that Myrym was in Nahar now. She would be held in one of the bases, possibly in Zerem, so he first sent out Jaguar to pillage them.

However, he received word that he failed. And so he sent out Jossel with an even greater army, and they failed, too. The most significant factor of all of this was the mysterious new figure that had just appeared with them.

It was a factor he had no idea how to scale or describe other than being able to beat his knights and generals.

So now it was time for a power play, to intimidate and coerce back what he desired without having to escalate into an even bigger war.

David raised his blade towards Forenus and simply said. "Greetings Forenus, Great Marquis of the sea. I ask you, as David Yuseff, where is my wife?"
