Standing Next To You

Chapter 21: Cruel Truth

Seeing that Bei Sangyun was silent and a bit timid, the principal smiled understandingly.

"You don't have to worry too much. If your parents aren't around, I'll make an exception and make you decide for yourself here. You guys are two good friends and classmates. Little Miss Xiao'er here is new to the town. How about you conceded for once? It's a good thing to help your friend. It's only right to give in for your friend."

The teacher was shocked. She did not expect that the Principal would coax Bei Sangun into a greeting without taking the latter's feelings into consideration!

Bei Sangyun was stared at by the Principal. She bit her lips.

Despite the aura of the Principal and the pressure of the parents, Bei Sangyun shook her head.

She and that little girl were not friends. So she shook her head decisively.

"I won't agree."

The couple's face changed and scolded her. "This little child is very stubborn and doesn't know what is good for her."

The Principal's smile turned stiff, "Little girl, it's not good to be selfish."

Bei Sangyun was scolded. Her face turned red from shame.

The teacher held Bei Sangyun's hands, "Since Bei Sangyun did not want to agree, then we can only follow the rules. "

Bei Sangyun looked gratefully at the Teacher. Fortunately, the Teacher was kind and understood her.

The Teacher told Bei Sangyun to return to the classroom by herself since she had something to talk with the Principal.

Bei Sangyun glanced at the room before she left. She saw the Principal's darkened expression and become worried.

While the little girl who did not get what she wants threw a tantrum. Her parents coaxed her while they glared at Bei Sangyun.

Bei Sangyun felt uncomfortable by their glare and endure their scolding. She left immediately.

But as she left, she heard the parents coaxed the little girl.

"Don't cry, don't cry. How about we buy you the big doll you saw in the mall last time? I'll make a trip and buy it for you!"

"That's right, don't cry. You will get the seat next time. Do you want Mommy to bake your favorite cake?"

Their voices were gentle and soft compared to facing her.

Bei Sangyun could not help but look back.

She saw the father carrying the little girl as he coaxed him. The mother wiped the little girl's tears as she made more promises.

That single glance caused Bei Sangyun's little heart to feel empty. As if a hollow hole was dug into her chest.

Envy, jealousy, and longing tangled and made Bei Sangyun's nose sore.

She turned around and her small desolate figure looked even sadder.

.....

When Bei Sangyun was just a few steps from her classroom, her sad figure suddenly paused.

Because she was so sad she forgot that the Teacher was still in the Principal's office.

She looked back in the direction where the principal's office with worry.

Would the teacher be scolded by the principal?

In that room, when all those adults pressured her, only the teacher stood by her side.

She just remembered that the principal made all decisions in the school. Like how the village chief took care of disputes between the villagers.

If the Principal got angry, would he punish the Teacher? She did not want the Teacher to be punished by the Principal. So she ran back in the direction where she came from.

She had to tell the principal to spare the Teacher!

As she reached the door, she heard the Teacher's voice.

"Principal, you should not be biased toward them just because you know them. How could you ask Bei Sangyun about her parents?" There was a restrained anger in her voice.

Bei Sangyun paused.

The Principal's helpless voice answered, "Teacher Tang, if you are not my relative I would have scolded you earlier. In that situation, you should side with the couple. They have a reputation in the big city. If you familiarize yourself with them, they can introduce a good job for you in the city. Being a teacher there and rather than here have great differences like that of heaven and earth. Although our school is getting more students from well-off families in this town and the nearby towns, it is still different from the schools in the big city."

"Is that why you want to curry favor with them, is that it?"

"Why are you so stubborn? What will you get for defending an orphan child? That poor child has no parents and backing. She can't save you after you offend those parents."

"I did not become a teacher to fawn others."

Bei Sangyun sweated.

Did she get the Teacher in trouble?

"Hah. Don't you think I don't know what you are doing? You are trying to curry favor from the Young Master of the Chuan family. Don't give me the good teacher card."

...Fei Chuan?

What has Fei Chuan got to do with this?

"Fei Chuan is just concerned with his friend. He is indeed the one who told me about this matter but I sincerely wanted to help Bei Sangyun. As their homeroom teacher, I have to look out for them."

"If that's what you want to believe, fine. However, as your senior, I will tell you one thing. I know Young Masters like him from big wealthy families did not make friends easily, especially with the people here in the countryside. Don't put all your eggs in that child Bei Sangyun. You won't get the Chuan's young master's favor in that way."

Bei Sangyun: ?!

She backed out from the door in shock.

She did not quite understand their whole conversation, but based on their words, the Teacher was siding with her earlier because it had something to do with Fei Chuan.

"You should be smart and know which child you should take care of." The Principal added.

Their words were so shocking to Bei Sangyun that she did not move for a while.

The two in the room continued talking. But based on the Principal's attitude, he did not seem angry with the Teacher since they were relatives.

The words of adults swirled in Bei Sangyun's mind.

'An orphan and poor child with no backing...'

Those words were like great thunder that ripped apart the world she knew.

It turned out that a child like her with no parents, no relationship with Fei Chuan, and pitifully poor was not worth defending at all.
