SSS-RANKED Awakening: Supreme Fate-breaker System

Chapter 33: Drakethorne Vs Fangblade 2 (Forced to Fourth Form!)

David's weapon was a spear, and with this spear he was able to dominate his way all through to his current level.

Back when they fought unawakened beasts, with his spear technique—Earth Dominating Spear Style—he defeated the Leetah he was told to fight. Leetah, is similar to earth's hybrid of cheetah and leopard.

But the Leetah of this world, even unawakened, was faster, stronger and wilder than Earth's leopard or cheetah, even genetically developed Leetah in Earth would be no match for the unawakened Leetah in the world of Nexa.

And yeah, beasts native to this world can awaken too, just like human has unawakened human and awakened human, beasts unawakened beast and awakened beast, but unlike human Awakening which was instant and sudden increase in strength, beast awakening is gradual and also that great strength from awakening comes from constant exposure to ambient mana.

It could be said that mana in a world is the catalyst for the beast in the world to awaken, while dungeon and Labyrinth is the catalyst for humans to awaken, they can also use mana, but the chance is quite low.

Still, unawakened beasts are as rare as near-extinct species on Earth...

And why so rare? Because, strong as they are, they're no match for awakened beasts.

To put it simple, according to the standard of this world, they're very weak, they're like chickens of Earth, with no capability to resist when going up again majority of humans and beasts of this world which is awakened.

Why they're driven near extinction?

Firstly, If a native unawakened beast awakens, it shatters the food-chain balance and directly and indirectly drives the rest toward extinction.

Another cause for their situation is that, the Nexa world, in fact, the universe as a whole is extremely dangerous, with danger from not only the dungeon and Labyrinth outbreak but also the world invasion.

Awakened beasts spilling from dungeon and labyrinth outbreaks, even world invasions can directly cause extinction of unawakened beasts, but that's not the only dangers these brings, even unawakened and awakened humans are endangered too, that's where life saving labyrinth come to the scenario, but this story is for later.

Meanwhile, David, hiding the sense of reverence he has for Ethan, twirled his spear confidently as he stepped into the arena, the sunlight catching on the spiraling steel tip. His eyes locked onto Ethan's.

After dominating throughout rounds with his spear technique, David was the second most popular option to winning the tournament after Ethan, so it was not just only about their families anymore.

David stepped onto the arena floor, spear in hand, heartbeat steady.

He'd replayed every lesson he'd learned since that day in the corridor—every humiliation, every reckless word—and now he moved with purpose, not pride.

Ethan appeared at the opposite end, white hair catching the torchlight, amber eyes calm. David felt that old spark of envy—but tempered now by respect.

He remembered how Ethan's S-ranked Unfated Scion had shattered his own triumph. Now, he wanted more than victory: he wanted to prove he'd grown beyond that wounded pride.

The two stood face to face, their weapons on the ready, no words spoken, the situation was tense.

Then there was the signal.

David didn't dare barge right in, based on his evaluation of Ethan, doing so is foolishly giving in himself to an obvious trap.

He began with a simple test— a probe...

One long thrust, spear spiraling with Earth Dominating Spear Style.

Ethan sighed when his plan didn't work, from what he knows of David, David was quite foolish. To prove himself, he'll definitely have an urge to rush straight in.

'What changed?'

From this single action of David alone, Ethan had already detected the change.

Meanwhile, Ethan met the tip of the spear with a flat block of his blade, then he ducked low.

Instead of pressing, David spun backward, planting his foot, shifting weight into a wide arc.

Swoosh-!

He summoned the next phase of his style: a low sweep that gouged at the sand beneath Ethan's feet, hoping to unbalance him.

Ethan stepped aside, but David had calculated the angle—tiny rock spray under Ethan's heel.

'Huh?' A flicker of surprise crossed Ethan's eyes.

David pressed in.

He feinted high, then drove his spear tip down with a spiraling twist—Earth Dominating Spear Style variant—aimed at Ethan's midsection.

Ethan blocked with a swift Burning Spiral, the second form of crimson edge requires him to attack with the energy and ferocity of a flame

And that's exactly what he did, spinning his blade in a tight coil to absorb the force. The clang felt different this time.

David allowed himself the slightest nod of approval. 'As expected, Ethan is a tough nut to crack. With my speed and the plans behind each strike, none of my previous opponents would've been able to bypass these attacks...'

Sighing, he pulled back, breathing deliberately.

'Stay calm. Be precise. No more wild thrusts.'

In the past, he'd abused that old tactic—charging through every match with brute strength. But now, against Ethan, he couldn't follow that foolish old pattern.

He moved like water around a rock—shifting, probing. This method might seem weak, but don't forget, even a heavy rock can be easily pushed away by a small stream of water with this method.

Ethan circled, eyes narrowing, gauging this new David. 'He acts like a completely different person. As expected of a young master of the Fangblade family... was his earlier behavior just an act to probe me?'

'To think I'd be forced, for the first time since the tournament began, to use the fourth form of Crimson Edge… I completely misjudged him.'

Sighing inwardly, he launched Inferno Sweep—a wide, powerful horizontal arc meant to clear ground. David dropped to one knee, sliding the spear under the sweeping blade. The tip of Ethan's sword barely whispered past his shoulder.

David rolled forward, spear extended, and jabbed at Ethan's exposed side. Ethan blocked, pivoted, and in that moment David let the earth answer him: a tremor along the arena floor, a slight quake born of David's will.

Within a few exchanges, these two have had a clear understanding of each other.

The ground buckled under Ethan's foot, and for a heartbeat his balance wavered.

'For some reason, Earth seems to resonate with his technique, is he using mana?'

Ethan was surprised, David was the first opponent to use mana, its effects were weak, but it was something nevertheless.

David saw this created opportunity as a chance and seized it—he drove forward with a flurry of rapid, spiraling strikes, each one drawing on different angles of his spear style.

The metal tip whirred like a drill, never heavy, always precise. He forced Ethan backward, step by step.
