Chapter 57: [58] Rewarded
"As someone who has experienced this before, I should remind you that the higher your success rate, the higher your score. It's not easy to earn points after becoming a Geneticist," Aaron said.
At the Geneticist Guild, serums or pharmaceutical knowledge could only be exchanged for points. At the same time, when used in transactions between the Geneticists, points could buy a good amount of rare items that one could not get on the outside, thus making the points more useful than money. As such, even thought Geneticists were not short on money, they still wanted to get points.
"You can start!" Aaron gave them the green light to begin the third round.
All of them immediately went to work, as they only had three days to cultivate 300 doses of serum! As such, these three days were crucial!
At this time, no one had any time to waste in provoking the others, or even to mock Theon. This was because the most important thing was to finish the serum within the allocated time.
Among the three serums that I've chosen, the Primal Blood Serum is the most difficult. But, it also the serum that I'm most familiar with...
Theon thought to himself.
The Primal Blood Serum can be cultivated last, so I'll finish cultivating the other two serums first...
In addition to the Primal Blood Serum, Theon had also prepared two other simpler Grade one serums, which were the Lunn Serum and the Nigeh. These two serums were named after their creators, but the more common names for them were the Cell Chain serum and the Berserk serum.
The Cell Chain serum was very helpful for external injuries, such as gunshot wounds, knife wounds, and so on. Excluding internal injuries, the serum would be able to heal any injury quickly.
It was helpful even for minor colds, heat stroke, dizziness, mild poisoning and so on. As such, it was one of the most commonly used serums.
This kind of serum was also one that every adventurer would bring with them when they went out to explore. After all, a bottle of Cell Chain serum could solve many problems out on the open road.
Moreover, the price was relatively cheap, costing only 100 original gold for one bottle.
The second kind was an Berserk Serum. Its effects were mirrored its name, as drinking would strengthen one's skeletal muscles and greatly increase one's ability to fight. One's recovery rate would also accelerate.
This made the serum vital, as resistance was extremely important, especially during battles. Sometimes, even though someone had suffered a fatal wound, because they had used the serum, their ability to resist beatings had increased. As such, there might be a chance that they would survive.
Theon hadn't wanted to cultivate the Primal Blood Serum at first. Instead, he had prepared a third antibiotic serum, which could strengthen the body's immune system and weaken any poison.
Even though human beings had evolved to adapt to the new environment, in the outside world, there were still many dangerous places that were filled with mutant viruses, where even an evolved human body would be vulnerable.
Therefore, Antibiotic Serums were also essential serums for adventures. Moreover, they were also not difficult to produce.
But, now that one of the serums had been restricted, Theon could only abandon his original idea of using the Antibiotic Serum and cultivate the Primal Blood Serum instead.
"I want to concoct Cell Chain serum, Primal Blood serum and Berserker Serum!"
[Ding! Quest Created]
[Objectives: Successful concoct Cell Chain serum, Primal Blood serum and Berserker Serum]
[Reward: Peak Grade-Two Geneticist, Grade 2 Primal Surge Pill*10 (Perfect Grade)]
Theon raised an eyebrow in surprise as he saw the 10 primal surge pill. Just a single one of this pill was about a month of cultivation for Super Soldiers and three months of cultivation for Genetic Warriors.
Just those pills could and he would be able to breakthrough from Genetic soldier level 9 to the next realm!
Starting with the first Cell Chain serum, Theon picked up the materials and began to work...
...
The certification examination finally came to a close, the bell sounding to officially mark its end.
Dong!
"The time is up for the third round of certification examination. Everyone, stop refining your serums!" Aaron announced loudly.
The security guards standing at the sides immediately stopped all of the apprentices. Not all of the apprentices' three hundred portions of the serum had been completed within the time limit.
Thus, the whole place was filled with wailing and crying. Theon, however, had already finished refining his portion of serum and had been quietly waiting for the end of the examination.
"Everyone, stay where you are. We will check your serums and success rates one at a time," Aaron said.
The examination room was divided into six rows, with more than 50 people in each row. The six examiners started checking the serums, one by one, starting from the front. Luckily, they were fast and made quick progress.
In the third round of the certification examination, in addition to the success rate, the quality of the serum was also very important. As such, the quality of the refined serum must reach at least the ordinary grade criteria. If the quality was inferior, it would be considered a failure.
"Bolt. Three bottles of Fermi serum, two bottles of inferior quality and one bottle of ordinary quality, with a success rate of 10%. Two bottles of Nigeh, both of ordinary quality and a success rate of 20%. Primal Blood Serum, none, success rate of 0%. Fail..." When Aaron announced Bolt's results, Bolt burst into tears and pleaded with Aaron to give him another chance.
Unfortunately, the certification examination was ruthless, allowing for no second chances. Even if the other two serums were up to the standard, as long as one did not meet the standard, it would still be considered a total failure.
The inspection continued. Out of more than 300, there were only a few apprentices that had all three serums actually pass the standard criteria.
Some people became very frustrated, while some were all too willing to concede defeat. Some wailed loudly, and there were even some who went crazy and had to be dragged away by security!
Many of the apprentices stayed to await the results, even after they had been examined, as they wanted to find out who had passed the certification examination. They particularly were interested in finding out whether Klein, Osborn, or Jasmine would finish with the best results.
Even though Osborn had done a little better than Klein in the previous two rounds, this advantage did not really matter much in regards to refining the serum. Therefore, it was still unknown who would do better than the other. And, if they were honest, many of the apprentices also stuck around to see hopefully Theon running around naked!
Just then, it was Osborn's turn to be checked...
"Osborn. Five bottles of Fedin serum, four bottles of ordinary quality and one bottle of premium quality with a success rate of 50%. Three bottles of Ghost Flame serum of ordinary quality with a success rate of 40%. Two bottles of Primal Blood Serum of ordinary quality with a success rate of 50%," Aaron announced Osborn's result. "The success rate of all the serums are more than 40%.
Hence, 14.5 guild points is awarded. Congratulations to Osborn in becoming a certified Grade one Geneticist!"
Aaron smiled and shook hands with Osborn. A wide smile spread across Osborn's face, as he had finally became an official Geneticist!
This was followed by a loud round of applause. After all, the birth of every certified Geneticist was something worthy of a celebration!
"Wow….14.5 points is the highest score so far!"
"So powerful!"
"Sure enough, Osborn didn't let us down! He is the rising star of the nobles!"
Even though Osborn was used to being flattered by others, this time he was more pleased than ever, hearing the adoring comments from the others. After today, he would be an official Geneticist, and his future and status in life would change dramatically.
After he enjoyed the moment of joy, Osborn then looked at Theon and sneered. "Theon, get ready to run around naked!"
At this time, others were looking at Theon with a teasing look. More than 100 people were waiting to be inspected, among whom only Osborn had more than 10 accumulated points, while the others only managed to just barely meet the standard.
Even if Theon was lucky enough to pass the Grade one Geneticist certification, his scores were unlikely to be higher than Osborn's. Many of the apprentices knew this as well, so began mocking Theon in anticipation of his losing the bet.
"Haha, it's going to be fun to watch Theon run around naked!"
"It's going to be on the headline news tomorrow!"
The inspection continued. With the exception of Osborn's outstanding performance, which caused a great stir, the others performed much worse than him.
Finally, it was Jasmine's turn to be inspected by Aaron. If she had not been absent due to her sickness, she would already have passed the certification examination. Knowing this, the crowd was very curious to know how many points she could get.
