SSS Rank Chef: Rising In The World Of Magic

Chapter 22: Everything Comes Back To Food

After laughing with the chefs, Lukas gave the rest of the food to the butler so he could give it to the baron's servants. Then, he joined the chefs in the kitchen to prepare his next dish.

'It has to be different…' he thought as he looked at the ingredients that were available.

As he watched the other chefs getting to work with their dishes, he noticed one of the younger ones taking out a pot filled with a dough that was pretty firm. He put his clean hands in and dropped the whole thing on the table.

Lost in thought, he continued watching as the boy boiled water and began to roll the huge amount of dough into large sheets. Minutes slowly passed as Lukas silently watched the boy make noodles.

It was only at this point that he realised how distracted he had been. Checking the time, he got to work as he made some dough, mixed some minced chicken meat with a little bit of salt and pepper and lastly, began to heat up some oil in a medium sized pot.

In the oil he added a lot of garlic, some herbs and spices as he let it cook on a low heat. While the flavours slowly infused into the oil, Lukas began to chop up a lot of fresh red chillies along with some from his farm until they looked like they were almost smooth with tiny little chunks. He tossed it all into a bowl, squeezed some lime juice onto it, added a generous amount of salt and sugar and finally, he strained the oil into the bowl of fresh chillies.

Sizzling sounds entered his years as he put the strainer and the pot aside. The air around him was instantly filled with one of fresh chillies, one that forcefully made him cough. He withstood the effects as he grabbed a spoon and began to stir the mixture.

In less than ten seconds, the sizzling stopped and Lukas was left with a bright red oily mixture.

'I would have used dry chillies if I wanted to store this chilli oil for a longer time but this will probably be finished tonight.' he thought as began to flatten out the dough into large sheets.

They were as irregular as he expected them to be but this didn't stop him as he stacked one sheet onto another. Only when he was out of dough, did he grab a copper glass and press it against the layers of sheets, cutting out perfect circles.

The waste was re-kneaded and made into sheets, and this process was done two times until Lukas felt like he had more than enough to serve everyone. He flattened the remaining dough and made some irregular tortillas with it before eating them himself and sharing some with the team.

After his short break, he began to put the raw chicken meat at the center of the small circles before he shaped them into dumplings. This took some time and as he got used to it, he got faster and the dumplings looked more pleasing to the eye as they came out looking increasingly uniform.

'This is so much work… fuck.' he cursed as he stood in one place and shaped the dumplings. In total, just shaping them took him more than an hour and by the time he was done, the servants had begun helping the chefs move their food outside, to the garden.

With their help, he placed all the dumplings into a large bamboo basket and got them to move it along with a large steaming pot and a huge barrel filled with water. While the servants struggled to carry the barrel, Lukas casually grabbed his bowl of chilly oil and left the kitchen.

In the garden, he saw all the guests sitting leisurely on chairs around a camp fire while the baron watched as his servants build a huge one a few meters away. Beside him, was a headless goat that had all of it's blood drained.

Seeing this, he took a few steps to his right and leaned closer to the servant that had just placed the barrel of water on the ground, "That goat, are they going to roast the whole thing on the fire?"

"No sir." the servant said as he motioned towards the guests, "The meat will be cut of and the guests will roast the small pieces of meat themselves over the fire. Every time someone hosts a party, it's tradition to have a hunting game which ends the moment someone kills an animal. This time, it was the count's eldest son Edmund."

Lukas nodded but immediately frowned as he pointed at the goat, "But I don't see any arrow wounds?"

The servant looked at Lukas for a moment before shrugging, "Mister Edmund is a known knight. It's the same with his father and his brother. He just ran to the goat and beheaded it in one slash."

For a moment, Lukas couldn't help but stare at Edmund with an absolutely dumbstruck expression on his face.

'Knight….' he thought as he moved his gaze away, 'Can I really get to that level? Status.'

In the past week, all of his stats had slowly increased by one. All except mana.

'I was thinking that my mana will increase if I increase the rank of mana breathing or mana heart but… hmm… hey system, do you know how I can increase my mana?'

[Maximum mana can be increased through various means. The safest and the slowest method is by using mana and emptying your reserves. The more you empty your mana reserves, the faster you can increase your total mana. The risky method is to use monsters and their cores so mutate. These come with side effects.]

[The third method is by cooking food that increases your mana stat permanently. You will be able to cook such food once you have access to D - Rank ingredients.]
