SSS-Class Awakening: World Breaking Anomaly

Chapter 7: A New Friend [3/4]

Mammot stood at the borders of Tyran, his massive form looming as he awaited permission to enter.

By making his intentions and destination clear, he was eventually led to the capital by Rose.

He felt rather bored during the journey since he had to follow her directions, passing from one point to another.

Upon arriving at the Pendragon's land, Taurus' grandfather met the titan who requested entrance to their lands.

Theodore was too old, his back was hunched and he walked with a cane that he treated as a supporting anchor.

The long silver hair covered his head and the scar crossed his face and nose, rendering his right eye blind.

"What brings you here, beast?" Theodore squinted up at the titan, his hands clutching his cane.

He was old, but his mind was sharp, and he didn't like surprises—especially ones the size of a titan.

"I've come to protect the chosen one," Having thought about this moment before arriving, Mammot came up with some hoaxes and responded directly.

Theodore's eyes widened and his jaws dropped, his reaction was no different from those who witnessed a beast for the first time.

"Chosen what?" Theodore adjusted himself before coughing, then he questioned as the beast's words made no sense to him whatsoever.

"I merely follow the supreme one's orders and that, I shall not explain,"

Mammot responded before lowering his head as Theodore squinted his eye upon hearing the bizarre words.

"Supreme who?"

"One..."

"One?!" The old man tilted his head, it seemed like the beast wasn't joking with its claims.

"Taurus Pendragon. By order of the Beast Monarch..."

"You know that's not what I meant, beast." Theodore struck the ground with his cane, his tone shifting and carrying a bit of anger as he had enough.

"Who is that supreme one?"

"The great one, the monarch of all beasts, and the one whose name shall not be spoken lightly."

"Will you let me inside now, human?!"

"You seem in a hurry, so where does your supreme one come from?" Feeling like the conversation was going nowhere, Theodore chose to ask something else.

"There."

"North??"

"Yes."

"The Beast Paradise?"

"Naturally, The beast monarch resides where your kind dares not approach."

"So, what does your so-called monarch want from my grandson?" Theodore leaned heavily on his cane, his gaze narrowing at the beast before him.

"That, I shall not answer. I swear upon my honor as a titan, the beast monarch dares not show any malice toward the chosen one." Mammot's response was deep and resonant, carrying a weight that unsettled him.

"Hmm, I see. But what does the chosen one mean?"

"The one destined to end the wars plaguing this land."

"RIDICULOUS!!!"

"Human, do you dare underestimate your grandson?."

"Hahaha, let me just—" heck "—catch my breath."

"Should you doubt my words, your axe shall disobey you, and when your grandson awakens, your axe will abandon you."

"Huh? Such bold words, but how did you know that I had an axe?"

"Human, give it a try and you shall naturally understand." Mammot's eyes fell on the stick in Theodore's right hand, the one he used to support himself.

His intentions were clear and Theodore found no better answer than doing as told, and mobilizing his weapon.

"Golden Mane? Hello?" Theodore muttered and no matter how much he tried communicating with the axe, nothing could be felt and the axe remained as a mere stick.

"Do you believe my words now, human?" Mammot spoke upon witnessing his victory, guessing the man believed in him completely by now.

"It seems like your words were true, wa—"

"My words have been always true, a wisdom mammoth such as myself could never lie."

"Then I shall escort you inside to a suitable place, and until you earn our trust, you shall remain there until your chosen one is old and safe enough to see you."

"Lead the way then, human." Mammot showed no signs of rejection since he could form the pact from a single encounter, he believed his master wouldn't blame him since it was not his fault for the inconvenience caused.

Upon arriving, Mammot breathed a sigh of relief since the Golden Mane assisted him in his hoaxing.

He settled into his new residence, but his mind was restless. While the hoax had worked, it didn't guarantee the Pendragon's trust.

Surprisingly the allocated area was vast and devoid of anything that could disturb him.

His residence lay next to Theodore's shack, a quiet place, one that he escapes to when he doesn't feel like dealing with his family.

He slowly lowered himself to the ground with peace of mind, guessing he wouldn't move any time soon.

While Mammot negotiated with Theodore, Amelia, and Edmund were far gone on their pet-acquiring quest.

The pet shop was far from the northern part of the capital, on the opposite side of where the Pendragon lands were located.

The best available transport was horse carriage and as nobles, the family had two of their own.

Beasts were divided into six tiers: Titans, Behemoths, Drakes, Dire, Wild, and Critters.

She knew no pet shop could house anything stronger than a Dire Beast.

Their target was a Critter since she wanted it as nothing more than a pet, considering her brother's safety.

Critters were harmless, Amelia knew that much from the stories her father told.

Titans and Behemoths might be majestic, but a critter was the perfect companion for a girl like her.

Amelia went around checking the small cages containing the critters, she spent some time searching since what she wanted was something as young as possible to socialize with her family well.

After a thorough search, her eyes fell on a small critter lying in the corner of a cage.

The creature resembled a fox and due to its small size, it could be easily mistaken for a kitten and so did she.

"Daddy, this one!" Amelia pointed at the critter and it raised its ears in response before standing up and eyeing her.

Her heart melted upon witnessing the creature's aggressive display. It turned to the side, hissing with all of its three tails and the orange fur covering its back raised in a threatening display.

Unfortunately, it was too small to truly count as a threat as Amelia believed she could hold in one hand.

Edmund eventually arrived and took a look at the beast before nodding his head in approval, treating its behavior as a normal thing.

Amelia carried the cage and followed her father as he finished the procedure with the shop's owner, then he bought some suitable food and treats for the beast.

They left the shop a few minutes later and rode back toward the Pendragon land, where their house was located.

The capital was a massive city and it took a while for the carriage to return. By then, the night was fast approaching.

They entered and after escorting her back, Edmund received the news the wisdom mammoth residing in their land now.

He hurled to his father's residence and upon arriving, he fell on the ground in disbelief.

"Oh my goooood!" He instantly forgot what he had in mind, and widened his eyes upon spotting the towering beast, and screamed his lungs out.

His noise stirred Mammot awake, and the beast opened his groggy eyes before staring at Edmund.

[Mammot would like to see your information, would you permit it?]

[Yes/No]

"What? Why would you want to know my stats?" Edmund responded in disbelief, trying to gather his composure back upon witnessing the prompt before his face.

'Oh man, here goes the second round...' Mammot thought upon hearing the man's words and remained quiet for a few minutes, preparing himself for another battle of questions.

"Why else, human? To know who you are."

"Couldn't you just ask?"

"I wouldn't bother and I can't trust strangers, using the interface is better."

"Indeed, I suppose I could agree with that." Edmund nodded his head before doing the same, a smirk painting his face as he prepared to speak.

"How about this? You show me yours first, then I show you mind."

[Edmund Pendragon would like to see your information, would you permit it?]

[Yes/No]

"This is unfair, human." Since beasts had completely different rules when it came to the interface, all of their stats could be seen unlike the others, who displayed only the evaluation and level.

"And while I can agree, this has to be kept a secret. Do you understand?" Knowing Edmund was Taurus' father, Mammot trusted him well. But at least, he wanted to make his act believable.

"WOW, are you telling me you haven't reached your full growth yet?!" Evaluation meant something different for beasts, and Edmund understood very well.

It merely showed a beast's potential and their final stats at prime age.

Each star was equal to 150~200 attribute points, and for Mammot, it was 4,200 at minimum.

"Your turn, human," Mammot spoke as Edmund froze like a stick man. The stats were so high, and so it shocked him since they were nearly four times his own.

He eventually collapsed to the ground, knowing if such a beast carried any malice, then they wouldn't have stood a chance in the first place.

{Status}

[Name: Edmund Pendragon]

[Evaluation: 21 Stars]

[Level: 73 | Exp: 7,340/21,900]

Edmund waited patiently for the titan's judgment once his status was revealed.

"Not bad, human." Eventually, Mammot responded positively, knowing Edmund had plenty of time to improve.

"Would you allow me some sleep now?" Mammot continued, his voice hinting at his exhaustion from walking without a single stop for months.

"Y-y-yes, I shall not burden you with my presence further!" Edmund responded before stumbling back to his home, his mind racing with questions and his heart racing.

As the sun dipped over the horizon, Mammot lay still in his new residence. His massive form blended with the quiet surroundings before drifting asleep.
