Chapter 144: Class Advancement Options [1]
Moon and the others left the battlefield area without cleaning up anything. Although feeding Mirage the bodies of the dead Heretics would have gained the horse a level or two through consumption, Moon knew better than to do that.
He could tell instinctively that such an action would make the Savi people extremely uncomfortable and possibly create a negative perception of him and Selene, something he had no intention of allowing to happen after they'd fought together so effectively.
So he left the bodies where they'd fallen, alongside all the carnage and destruction they'd created within that section of forest. Staying near the corpses was dangerous anyway, the smell of blood and death would attract scavengers and potentially alert other Heretic patrols to their location.
They needed to move further away in a completely different direction.
Once the group reached what Yara deemed a safe area, sufficiently distant from the bodies and unlikely to be discovered by scouting teams, Moon finally took the opportunity to check the system notifications he'd deliberately ignored during combat.
[You cannot reach level 26 before you undergo your first Class Advancement. All experience acquired during the evolution process will be recorded and calculated once the evolution is successfully completed.]
[You may choose one of the following Class Advancement options:
1) Dark Assassin
2) Ranger Healer
3) Mage Knight
4) Grand Elemental Sorcerer
5) Classless]
Reading through the messages flashing across his vision, Moon felt genuinely puzzled by the sheer variety. There were so many viable classes he could choose from, and most appeared to be either an evolution of classes he'd temporarily copied previously or represented combinations synthesizing multiple skill sets.
They all looked incredibly powerful and unique in their own ways, especially the Grand Elemental Sorcerer option which made Moon intensely curious about what abilities and progression path it might offer.
Moon had finally reached level twenty-five, granting him access to the necessary trial for his First Class Advancement. Once he completed whatever tasks the system assigned, he would officially become an Evolver rather than merely an Awakener, a transformation that represented a fundamental power increase.
"Are you choosing which pathway you want to take?" Selene asked, unable to suppress her curiosity despite trying to give Moon space for the important decision.
Moon nodded, his eyes still fixed on the different class options displayed before him. "Yes, I have several viable options. Just thinking carefully about which one I should choose."
"I see," Selene said with understanding. "Just make absolutely sure you think it through completely. Once you lock in your answer, you can never go back or change your mind. This will be your main pathway forever, it defines your entire future progression."
Meanwhile, Yara sat nearby looking thoroughly puzzled, her large eyes blinking with confusion at the conversation happening around her. She leaned closer toward Selene and said hesitantly, "What are you both talking about? There are so many words I don't understand. What is a 'pathway'? Isn't that just a road or trail?"
Selene chuckled warmly before turning toward Yara to provide explanation. "The pathway is indeed a road, but in this specific context, it's a metaphorical road for the evolution of our class system. In simple terms, it represents what type of power we want to focus on developing throughout our entire lifetime."
She thought for a moment, then continued, "Let's use an archer as an example for clarity, since you are an archer yourself. When an archer reaches level twenty-five, they would be granted several pathway options by the system, possibilities like Swift Archer, Sharpshooter, or Deadeye. These are all real class evolutions I've heard of from other awakeners. Each pathway you choose focuses on developing a specific aspect of your combat strength."
Yara listened intently as Selene elaborated, "A Swift Archer would become incredibly agile with extraordinarily fast shooting speed. Whereas a Sharpshooter would develop supernatural accuracy to the point where missing a target becomes almost impossible. Each specialization offers different advantages depending on your fighting style and preferences."
"Ahh, that sounds absolutely fascinating!" Yara exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with wonder. But then a look of profound sadness overtook her expression. "Unfortunately, we don't have anything like that here on Lunaris. I've never heard anyone in our clan speak of such systems or choices. It must be exclusive to the benefactor's race, something only you guys possess."
Selene smiled warmly, trying to offer some comfort. "Not necessarily true. While non-human species usually don't receive multiple options and simply evolve along their naturally predetermined pathway, there are definitely some exceptions from what I've heard. Your Savi clan could potentially be one of those special cases."
She paused thoughtfully before continuing, "You mentioned having several level twenty-five warriors in your clan, correct? But since you've never heard anyone discuss class advancement choices, and I haven't observed any true Evolvers among your people despite their high levels..." Selene's expression grew more serious. "You might be artificially limited by this realm itself. A restriction could be placed upon your entire population, keeping you stuck at level twenty-five without the ability to rise further in level or undergo evolution."
Yara's face showed genuine shock at this revelation. "Can you explain more about what you mean? How could our world itself limit us?"
The thought of their entire existence being constrained by invisible forces was something almost incomprehensible to her understanding of reality.
"It's not necessarily a bad thing," Selene said gently, trying to soften the disturbing implication. "Perhaps it's actually a protective safety mechanism designed to keep your people safe within this place. By preventing you from advancing beyond a certain threshold, it might also prevent you from ever encountering enemies powerful enough to threaten your extinction."
Yara's mind worked through the logic, her expression troubled. "But who could possibly have the power to place such a powerful restriction on the people of Lunaris? Who controls our very potential?"
Selene paused before a moment before shaking her head slowly. "I honestly don't think it's a single 'person' in the traditional sense. Just thinking about it is terrifying—to place an entire realm under permanent level restriction would require power beyond anything I can comprehend. Not even the most powerful humans in recorded history could accomplish something of that magnitude."
