Squidward's Daily Life At The Krusty Krab

Chapter 6: 6: Guts

The tension inside the Krusty Krab was suffocating as Hammerhead's shadow loomed over Mr. Krabs. His sharp claws glinted under the dim lights, poised to strike.

"Did ye really think ye could escape this, Krabs?" Hammerhead snarled, his voice a low, menacing growl. Each syllable sent shivers down Squidward's spine.

Mr. Krabs stood his ground, though his claws trembled ever so slightly. "I told ye before, Hammerhead. I'll pay what I owe. Just give me more time!"

Hammerhead let out a humorless laugh, the kind that froze the blood. "Time's up. You've had your chances, old man. Now, you'll pay in a different way."

Squidward's instincts screamed at him to leave, to slip out the back and pretend this wasn't happening. But something kept him rooted in place. Maybe it was morbid curiosity. Maybe it was the faint hope that someone—anyone—would step in and stop this madness.

To his surprise, SpongeBob stepped forward, placing himself between Mr. Krabs and Hammerhead. "Hey, you can't just barge in here and threaten Mr. Krabs! This is a family establishment!"

Hammerhead's cold eyes narrowed as he stared down at SpongeBob. "Move, kid. This doesn't concern you."

"It does if you're trying to hurt my friends!" SpongeBob's voice was steady, but there was a flicker of fear in his wide eyes.

Squidward groaned internally. "Great," he muttered under his breath. "The sponge is going to get us all killed."

Hammerhead sneered. "You've got guts, kid. I'll give you that. But guts won't save you."

Before anyone could react, Hammerhead lashed out. His massive claw swiped toward SpongeBob with terrifying speed.

SpongeBob ducked just in time, the force of the attack sending a gust of wind past him. Plates and utensils clattered to the floor, and Squidward felt his heart skip a beat.

"Enough!" Mr. Krabs roared, stepping forward. His voice was filled with an authority Squidward hadn't heard in years. "If ye have a problem with me, Hammerhead, ye settle it with me. Leave me employees out of it!"

Hammerhead paused, his claw still raised. For a moment, it seemed like he might actually listen. But then his grin returned, more sinister than ever.

"Fine," he said, lowering his claw. "If you want to play the hero, Krabs, I'll give you your chance." He leaned in closer, his voice a dangerous whisper. "Tomorrow. Midnight. The docks. You bring what you owe—or don't bother showing up at all."

With that, Hammerhead turned and stalked toward the door, his heavy footsteps echoing through the silent room. He paused in the doorway, casting one last glance over his shoulder. "And if you try to run… well, let's just say I've got ways of finding you."

The door slammed shut behind him, leaving an uneasy silence in his wake.

Squidward exhaled a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. "Well, that was… horrifying," he muttered.

SpongeBob turned to Mr. Krabs, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "Don't worry, Mr. Krabs! We'll figure this out. We always do!"

But Mr. Krabs didn't share SpongeBob's optimism. He sank into a chair, burying his face in his claws. "This is it," he muttered. "I'm finished."

SpongeBob placed a reassuring hand on Mr. Krabs's shoulder. "Don't say that, Mr. Krabs! We'll find a way to get the money. Right, Squidward?"

Squidward blinked, caught off guard. "Me? What am I supposed to do? I'm not exactly rolling in cash, you know."

SpongeBob frowned, undeterred. "We're a team, Squidward. And teams stick together, no matter what!"

Squidward sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "This is insane. You realize that, right? Hammerhead isn't just some disgruntled customer. He's dangerous."

"That's why we have to help Mr. Krabs!" SpongeBob insisted. "He's done so much for us. We can't just abandon him now."

"Done so much?" Squidward snapped. "Like what? Pay us peanuts and make us deal with lunatics like Hammerhead?"

"Squidward!" SpongeBob's tone was sharp, uncharacteristically serious. "This isn't about money. It's about loyalty."

Squidward opened his mouth to argue, but the look in SpongeBob's eyes stopped him. There was a depth there, an unshakable conviction that Squidward couldn't quite understand—or ignore.

Before Squidward could respond, Mr. Krabs spoke up. "It's no use, boys. Even if we pooled all our money together, it wouldn't be enough. Hammerhead's got me backed into a corner."

SpongeBob's face fell, but only for a moment. Then, his trademark optimism returned. "We'll think of something, Mr. Krabs. We always do!"

Squidward groaned. "You're delusional. Both of you."

"Maybe," SpongeBob said, a small smile tugging at his lips. "But sometimes, a little delusion is exactly what we need."

Squidward rolled his eyes, but deep down, he couldn't help but feel a flicker of something he hadn't felt in a long time: hope.
