Spectral Showdown

Chapter 3: Unforseen Connections

"YOU kept watching the news over and over? Can't you get it out of your mind for once?"

A voice of a man could be heard, his voice was soft and swift as he closed the door.

He approached and sat beside them, taking his soda in their hand, taking a slow slip.

"And does that concern you? after the events that unfold?" They asked, resting his head on his hand.

"Despite their efforts, we already sent funds to silent them but the world, they kept insisting to investigate but the government wants to disclose it and not fo cause widespread." He looked at them as They chuckled.

The man crossed his legs. "However, these actions have not quelled the ongoing speculation and theory-crafting. On the contrary, it seems that a significant portion of the population is inclined to give credence to these allegations." He replied.

"How could you possibly entertain the notion that less than fifty percent of the populace would dismiss these claims?"

They stopped and looked at him.

"Only those who put their theories and speculations are nothing but a scum to think that it would go their ways, they're thinking that they are smart but the world wants a twists and their calculations went the other way around." He chuckled.

He raised his eyebrow, a smirk tugged at the corners of his lips for attempting to contradict the situation.

"You should know better than to underestimate the power of a good theory. After all, even the most carefully laid plans can go awry, isn't that right?"

"They saw nothing." They firmly replied and He laughed.

"We managed to contain the fallen one, we should proceed to the next one, I'll deploy our kid." He replied and stood up.

"Are you so sure that it won't be a failure this time?" They replied, their voice laced with sarcasm.

"And you? Didn't you fail yours too?" He answered back.

They sighed. "Why did I say it out of the blue? But whatever, do what you want."

He chuckled, turning his back on him and left the room.

He walked down the dark hallway, heading straight to his office as he called his favoured student over and the door opened.

"I'm here, so what's up?" They asked. They looked over him and the documents on the table, walking closer to his desk.

"I want you to investigate New York State university and find the fallen's flesh before it gets in the wrong hands." He replied, his voice low and urgent.

They grabbed the documents on the table and read it.

Their eyebrow raised. "New York state university? But what if it isn't there again?" They replied.

"It is there, you have to look deeper than that, I already investigate the whole premises last week and the sensors weren't wrong, it has been confirmed..."

They sighed and continued reading the documents before nodding. "Alright, Understood."

They left the office, as he sat on his swivel chair, looking out of the window.

———————————

DISGUISED as an investor, he moved around the universirty, searching for the object.

Despite his confidence and his sharp instincts, he began to feel uncertainty, as if this might led him to astray.

He has his doubts but he knew he had to investigate this place. The object he was looking for must be hidden somewhere.

But where?

He wanted to prove himself to be better, to live up to the expectations placed on him. But he was pressured.

Was he truly 'special,' or was he just a fraud?

Until...

He froze, his heart pounding in his chest as he felt a strange aura when he saw a man sprinting past and a furious girl hot on his heels.

His face went pale as sweat started to form around his head.

A cold dread washed over him. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was awful about the guy.

'What the hell is this!?'

He watched as the pair disappeared around a corner.

He was about to follow them, when his phone buzzed in his pocket.

but before that, he suddenly felt annoyed as the students around him turned to stare and whispered nothing but admiration to his handsome face and fine body.

He rolled his eyes and winced.

'Kids' He let out a frustrated groan, snatching his phone from his pocket.

Kazushige went on a private space, answering the call with a hiss. "What do you want?" he spat, wincing at the sound of this bitch's voice.

[Kazushige,] a man's voice boomed from the other end, his voice was laced with bitterness. [of all the things I'd expect from you...]

Kazushige raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice dripping with innocence.

[You found it, haven't you?] the man continued, his voice was laced with bitterness. [Is this why you insisted on going alone? You want all the glory for yourself, you arrogant cunt!]

Kazushige laughed, "Bingo! You should have expected it, you idiot. I've been playing the game from the start, didn't I?"

He was enjoying, playing with the person on the other side of the phone.

[Never thought you'd get this far,] the man spat, his voice thick with envy.

Kazushige's laughter echoed through the phone. "What do you think I'm doing this for? I love the spotlight, especially when it should be yours, but if a bit of a gloating gets under your skin, consider it a bonus, dear."

The man fell silent, and Kazushige savored the momentary victory. But the silence was broken by a sharp, cutting voice.

[Is that so? Well, good luck with that. Because the only thing that's going to be stuck under anyone's skin for any substantial amount of time is your arrogance.] He spat bitterly and Kazushige burst out laughing, his satisfaction evident.

"I didn't mean to brag, but I'm born in a special way, something you peasants wouldn't understand."

[What!?]

"And oh!, I recall hearing about your injury during your mission! It seems quite befitting for someone as cunning and calculating as you to find yourself in such a pitiful state. Pray tell, what happened? Did your own machinations finally catch up with you?" Kazushige laughed, mocking him.

The man's voice was a guttural roar. [Fucking bitch! You fucktard-!]

He ended the call with a smirk, a glint of triumph in his eye. He called his right hand man.

He barked into the phone, his voice sharp and demanding.

"Get me Kazuki. Red hair, blue eyes. He's in this school. I want his file on my desk in five minutes." He ended the call and walked over his black sedan, getting inside the driver's seat.

In a matter of seconds, His right-hand man was always step ahead of him, had already delivered the accurate information he needed.

Kazushige got his full name, address and every valuable information he needed.

"Wow..."

He was the college student who was known for his exceptional running abilities running at approximately 54 km.

Kazushige was baffled and confused at the same time.

but all the students and teachers reported the sightings of seeing him running at such a tremendous speed that resembles a car on a race track, Kazushige couldn't help but be impressed himself.

But what really caught his attention was the absences on Kazuki's record.

And he found another, his mother was suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and he had been caring for her.

From what Kazushige learned, it is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.

Kazushige discovered that it is a neurodegenerative illness that progressively damages brain and spinal cord nerve cells.

It causes the muscles all throughout the body to weaken and eventually paralyze.

And he's not being suspended because this guy has high marks in school with the average of 99.9%

He tossed his phone on the passenger's seat and sighed, leaning on his chair with a thoughtful expression on his face.

'Interesting..'
